Having hosted the game for almost six centuries, “the home of golf” – as Scotland is known – was recognized as the World’s Best Golf Destination for the very first time at the ninth edition of the annual World Golf Awards in Abu Dhabi this week. Despite the dominance of its legendary St. Andrews Old Course in the World’s Best Golf Course category – with five successive wins after the award’s inception – Scotland had never been recognized as the sport’s best destination. CNN —It’s almost a year since marathon runner Gotytom Gebreslase last spoke to her parents over the phone, a detachment she feels most strongly during races. “My wish is to meet them soon – that would make me happy.”Gebreslase breaks the tape at the World Athletics Championships. Some reassurance over her parents’ safety arrived following Gebreslase’s victory at the world championships in July, when she came across a TV report featuring an interview with her mother. “The result I got in the world championships built my confidence,” she says. “When I started running, [my parents] didn’t discourage me, they were encouraging me – especially my mom,” says Gebreslase.

CNN —Following an agonizing loss to the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 1 of the World Series Friday, the Houston Astros bounced back nicely to win 5-2 to even up the series in Game 2 on Saturday. The Astros offense proved yet again to be one of the best in the league, scoring five runs to send the series back to Philadelphia all knotted up at one game apiece. Edmundo Sosa of the Philadelphia Phillies is unable to make a catch in the fourth inning. Astros closer Ryan Pressly came in to close out the game but the Phillies would get another run on an error by Astros first baseman Yuli Gurriel. The Astros, in their fourth World Series in six years, won 106 games in the regular season.

CNN —The Philadelphia Phillies beat the Houston Astros in dramatic fashion Friday night to take Game 1 of the World Series 6-5 in extras. “The way we fought back in that game after being down 5-0, that is a Phillies win right there,” Realmuto said. Verlander, a likely future hall of famer, remains winless as a starter in the World Series in his stellar career. The Astros’ only previous World Series win came when they defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2017. A Phillies series win would give the franchise its third World Series title, with its last coming back in 2008.
