While no Club earnings are scheduled to report earnings in the week ahead, 61 companies in the S & P 500 will deliver their latest quarterly results. CNBC's Jim Cramer on Friday prepared investors for next week on Wall Street, saying investors should pay attention as earnings season continues, with reports from companies including Shopify , Marriott and Wendy's . He also recommended researching retail stocks next week before the industry reports a slew of earnings results the week after. "Next week seems busy, but, you know what, it's a classic interregnum — Google that — before we get to retail earnings," Cramer said. On Monday, Cramer said he'll be waiting for earnings reports from two "scorchers," cloud networking outfit Arista Networks and Cadence Design Systems , which provides software for artificial intelligence hardware. One portfolio manager, however, is shifting his focus to other tech players — particularly small mid-cap names. His comments come despite the sharp gains registered by big tech stocks which pushed the price-to-earnings ratio of the S & P 500 index to around 20 times. By contrast, the ratio is trading below 14 times when the seven Big Tech stocks are excluded, he noted. Another stock in Kharmandarian's AI and Robotics Fund fund is cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike . Nov 21 (Reuters) - Autodesk (ADSK.O) forecast full-year revenue above market estimates on Tuesday, in a sign that client spending on its design software remains resilient in an uncertain economy. Shares of the San Francisco-based company rose 2.8% after market, as it also posted higher revenue and profit in the third quarter. The company has been benefiting from higher sales and recurring revenue as clients in the construction sector look to optimize their industrial design software despite high borrowing costs. Autodesk, whose AutoCAD software is used by construction, engineering and manufacturing companies, expects full-year revenue to be in the range of $5.45 billion to $5.47 billion, compared with LSEG estimates of $5.43 billion. Autodesk's architecture, engineering and construction segment reported a 17% rise in revenue from a year earlier to $675 million.

KKR Real Estate Finance Trust posted 25 cents per share in distributable earnings, while analysts surveyed by FactSet expected 4 cents per share. REUTERS/Stephen Nelli/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsOct 23 (Reuters) - Cadence Design Systems (CDNS.O) forecast fourth-quarter revenue and adjusted profit below Wall Street estimates on Monday, as slower R&D spending by semiconductor firms navigating a tough economy weighs on the chip design software provider. A slower-than-expected chip industry recovery has a cascading impact on firms like Cadence, which makes software tools and hardware that help produce blueprints for chips before they are mass manufactured. Cadence expects current-quarter adjusted profit per share in the range of $1.30 to $1.36. Analysts had expected adjusted profit of $1.37 per share, as per LSEG data.

The higher-for-longer interest rate regime poses a direct threat to company profitability, but some stocks are a lot less vulnerable to higher borrow costs, according to Goldman Sachs. The Federal Reserve has taken interest rates to the highest level since 2001 while forecasting one more hike this year. The S & P 500 finished September down 4.9%, suffering its worst month of 2023. The Wall Street firm screened the S & P 500 for stocks with low leverage, high interest coverage and low EBITDA growth variability. Specifically, Goldman identified stocks with net debt to EBITDA below 1, EBIT to interest expense in top quartile among S & P 500 stocks and with EBITDA growth variability in bottom quartile.

Hauwei also unveiled new smartphones in recent weeks that use advanced chips, which analysts say are domestically made. "These surveillance chips are relatively easy to manufacture compared to smartphone processors," said the source familiar with the surveillance camera industry's supply chain, adding that HiSilicon's return would shake up the market. A key factor is that the company appears to have worked around U.S. restrictions on chip design software. Huawei has not commented on the phone's 5G capabilities or how it produced the advanced chip. The United States has no evidence that Huawei can produce smartphones with advanced chips in large volumes, U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo said on Tuesday.

Arm’s $52 bln IPO value sets stage for a fall

Arm’s IPO investors are effectively paying a slight premium while also betting that both growth and profitability are about to soar. Haas could then charge higher royalty rates. In the last calendar year, the company estimated that its royalty revenue equated to 1.7% of total worldwide spending on Arm-based chips. It’s not clear how many important Arm customers like Apple (AAPL.O), Nvidia (NVDA.O) and Samsung Electronics (005930.KS) have agreed to pay higher royalty rates. Nor will rising royalty rates necessarily compensate for possibly ongoing sluggish sales of smartphones, its key historic market.

Chip design firm Arm said in a Tuesday filing that Apple , Google parent Alphabet , Nvidia and other technology companies are interested in buying up to $735 million in its shares as it seeks to go public on Nasdaq. Chip foundry operators Intel , Samsung and TSMC are interested in investing alongside the three trillion-dollar technology companies, along with AMD and MediaTek, which make chip designs based on Arm architectures. In 2020, Nvidia announced plans to acquire Arm from SoftBank for $40 billion, but regulators in the U.S. and the U.K. pushed back. SoftBank’s reduced Arm price tag is still too high

The lesson for SoftBank and Arm is clear: chip investors are laser-focused on medium-term operating profit, not just revenue. Reuters GraphicsThere are three key moving parts to Arm’s valuation. Under SoftBank, Arm’s operating margin has dropped to around 25%, from roughly 40% in 2015 – a consequence of Son’s preference for heavy investments in research. If Arm nabbed the same multiple, its enterprise value would be $33 billion, using the above growth and operating margin. To mimic and sustain Nvidia-esque growth, Arm CEO Rene Haas would have to keep ramping up investments in engineers and sales teams, which would weigh on margins.

A smartphone with a displayed Arm Ltd logo is placed on a computer motherboard in this illustration taken March 6, 2023. The price range, which has not been previously reported, would translate into a valuation for Arm of roughly between $50 billion and $54 billion, and an offering of $5 billion to $5.4 billion. It would make Arm the most valuable company to list in New York since electric car maker Rivian Automotive (RIVN.O) debuted in 2021. The valuation Arm is currently seeking represents a climb-down from the $64 billion valuation at which SoftBank acquired the 25% stake in the company it did not already own from its $100 billion Vision Fund last month. Arm has already signed up many of its major clients as investors in its IPO, Reuters reported on Friday.

The talks are ongoing and some other potential investors are also in discussions to invest in the IPO, the sources added. SoftBank Group Corp (9984.T), which owns Britain-based Arm, is targeting a valuation between $50 billion and $55 billion, Reuters reported earlier on Friday. Arm's clients have agreed to invest in that valuation range, the sources said. Arm and SoftBank have set aside 10% of the shares to be sold in the IPO for its clients, Reuters has previously reported. The Wall Street Journal reported on Arm's valuation target earlier on Friday.
