CNN —In the first quarter of this year, the price of bitcoin broke records in the wake of approval by the Securities and Exchange Commission for the first exchange-traded spot bitcoin funds. But in the past few years, education about crypto assets has been made more available to professionals. While it’s called a currency — and in some instances can be used like money — bitcoin is not legal tender in the United States or most other countries. He advises his clients who insist on exposure to limit their portfolio allocation to bitcoin to no more than 5%. The number was higher among young adults, with 37% of people ages 18 to 29 saying they turn to influencers for news. Pew surveyed 10,000 adults and analyzed 500 news influencers, which it defined as individuals who regularly post about current events and have over 100,000 followers on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X or YouTube. “And these influencers have really reached new levels of attention and prominence this year amid the presidential election.”The rise of social media influencers, and in particular news-focused creators, has been slowly embraced by politicians in recent years. The Republican convention in Milwaukee hosted more than 70 influencers as part of a content creator program. Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris both appeared on podcasts hosted by popular online personalities ahead of the election.

Police in Australia charged former radio show host Alan Jones with 24 assault and sexual touching offences on Monday, indictments that followed accusations in a newspaper that Jones had assaulted young men for decades. Police allege the offences took place between 2001 and 2019 against 8 victims, some of whom Jones knew professionally or personally. He denied the assault allegations made against him last year by the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper. Jones had hosted radio shows for decades and anchored the popular Sydney breakfast show on radio station 2GB for about 18 years until 2020. After leaving 2GB, he worked at a digital start-up, but had been off the air since the Sydney Morning Herald allegations were made.

But whether they are measured by income or educational attainment, President-elect Donald Trump won working-class voters overall while he made strong gains among nonwhite working-class voters like Hispanics and Asian Americans. As recently as 2012, non-college-educated voters were splitting their votes evenly or even slightly in favor of Democrats. But that has left the party’s leaders, donors, operatives and other decision-makers more removed from the lives of low- and middle-income workers, some labor leaders say. But there is widespread frustration that Trump outflanked Democrats to position himself as a champion of working people, as well as dissatisfaction with Democrats not limited to white or male union members. But that policy was not enough to overcome larger societal forces that have led many working-class voters to doubt Democrats’ commitment to their well-being.

WASHINGTON — President-elect Donald Trump announced Sunday that he has selected Brendan Carr to be chairman of the Federal Communications Commission. Carr is the top Republican commissioner on the FCC, the government agency tasked with regulating radio, television and cable communications. "Commissioner Carr is a warrior for Free Speech, and has fought against the regulatory Lawfare that has stifled Americans’ Freedoms, and held back our Economy," Trump said in a. In his chapter, Carr suggested TikTok should be banned if it fails to disentangle from its China-based parent company — an issue on which Trump held conflicting views before he joined the app himself this year. "Congress should do so by ensuring that Internet companies no longer have carte blanche to censor protected speech while maintaining their Section 230 protections," Carr wrote in Project 2025's book.

New York CNN —President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, Brendan Carr, wasted no time in stating his priorities on Sunday night. Carr is now the senior Republican at the agency, which meant he was widely expected to get the chairman appointment. As chairman, Carr may be able to steer generous federal subsidies to Starlink. In his Project 2025 chapter, Carr laid out an agenda for the federal agency under a future Trump administration. The FCC chairman during Trump’s first term in office, Ajit Pai, had a very different set of priorities.

Social media site X remained the most popular, with 85% of influencer respondents reporting they were on the site. Risk of misinformationQuestions around the influence of independent social media creators on politics erupted prior to and after the presidential election. Both candidates utilized social media to reach younger voters, most notably when President-elect Donald Trump appeared on Joe Rogan's podcast and Vice President Kamala Harris joined the "Call Her Daddy" podcast — both podcasts with large followings on social media. Network interviews in recent elections have tended to be more combative than those conducted on independent podcasts or social media accounts, Darr said.

Carr is an ally of Elon Musk and has previously gone to bat for his company, Starlink. President-elect Donald Trump's nomination of Brendan Carr to chair the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) isn't just a win for conservative opponents of Big Tech. Elon Musk has transformed long-dormant industries, and he’s developed a first principles “production algorithm” to deliver results. In 2022, the FCC denied SpaceX nearly $886 million in government subsidies to provide satellite internet access in rural areas via the company's Starlink service. It's still proving itself as a viable internet service provider and is relatively expensive for the quality, CNN reported in August.

AdvertisementMen far outnumber women as news influencers on social media, per a new Pew Research Center study. That gender skew is showing up again in the latest platform for news: social media. That gender gap stands out for a few reasons:First, there's a much narrower gender divide (51% male and 46% female) among working US journalists, per a 2022 Pew survey. In Pew's analysis, there was a much smaller (and flipped) gender gap in the overall audience for news content on social media among young people. YouTube had the biggest gender gap, while TikTok's was minimalThe gender divide among news influencers was fairly consistent across all platforms in Pew's study.

On Facebook, there were three times as many explicitly conservative news influencers (39% to 13%), and on Instagram conservatives outnumbered liberals, 30-25%. “Many Republicans have long believed that social media sites censor conservative viewpoints. Social media influencers differ from trained journalists in how they report facts, often weaving their own views into current events or presenting opinions as reportable facts. Strategist Michael Wilson sees the S & P 500 reaching 6,500 in 2025. The sector is already up 6.8% since the Nov. 5 election, outperforming the other 10 S & P 500 sectors. The benchmark 10-year Treasury note yield is up more than 80 basis points (0.8 percentage point) since the Fed began cutting rates. While Wilson's base case sees the S & P 500 rising to 6,500, his most optmistic bullish scenario takes the benchmark all the way to 7,400 — 26% above Friday's close. Carr's stance on Big TechIn his Project 2025 chapter, Carr writes that one of his four main goals for the FCC is "Reining in Big Tech." His interpretation of the section would give Big Tech immunity only against being compelled to take down content.
