The Library of Congress said hackers broke into its communications systems and were able to read its email correspondence with congressional offices for most of this year. In a private notification sent Friday to some congressional offices, obtained by NBC News, the Library of Congress said that hackers “accessed email communications between congressional offices and some Library staff, including the Congressional Research Service.” The hackers had access from January until September, the notification said. WASHINGTON — President-elect Donald Trump on Friday announced that he is selecting Karoline Leavitt to serve as White House press secretary. "Karoline is smart, tough, and has proven to be a highly effective communicator," Trump said in a statement. Leavitt served as his campaign’s national press secretary during this election cycle, and since Election Day, she has served as a transition team spokesperson. As campaign press secretary, Leavitt has also repeatedly embraced Trump's criticism of media outlets as "fake news." Leavitt served as an assistant press secretary during Trump's first term.

"At this time, T-Mobile systems and data have not been impacted in any significant way, and we have no evidence of impacts to customer information." It was unclear what information, if any, was taken about T-Mobile customers' calls and communications records, according to the WSJ report. Earlier in October, the Journal reported that Chinese hackers accessed the networks of U.S. broadband providers, including Verizon Communications , AT&T and Lumen Technologies , and obtained information from systems the federal government uses for court-authorized wiretapping.

The New York Times reported the meeting took place earlier this week, citing two Iranian officials. But Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei “categorically denied” that a meeting took place and was “surprised” by the coverage in US media, state-run IRNA said. CNN has reached out to Musk, Trump’s transition team and the Iranian mission at the UN for confirmation of the meeting. Just last week, the day after the presidential election, Musk joined Trump’s call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, according to two sources. Trump announced Tuesday that Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will lead a new “Department of Government Efficiency” in his second administration.

Although Trump claims that his plan to raise tariffs will replace the revenue lost to these tax breaks, experts say that’s not possible. President-elect Donald Trump's tax proposals could cost trillions of dollars. In addition to eliminating taxes on certain income, Trump also floated making interest paid on car loans fully tax deductible; getting rid of the controversial cap on state and local tax deductions; ending the double taxation on Americans who live abroad; exempting police officers, firefighters, veterans and active-duty military from federal income tax; and even exploring jettisoning the federal income tax itself. Though his campaign didn’t release details on the proposal, Trump indicated that he would eliminate both federal income taxes and payroll taxes, which fund Social Security and Medicare. Virtually all tipped workers would get some tax relief if Trump also gets rid of payroll taxes on tips, the Tax Policy Center found.
