Cynthia Erivo called out a fan-edited "Wicked" poster circulating online, describing it as "offensive" and "deeply hurtful." An official poster for the movie, which hits theaters in November, was released by distributor Universal Pictures earlier this month. "And that is just deeply hurtful.”Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in "Wicked." She described the edited version of the poster as "the wildest, most offensive thing I have seen," and compared it to two offensive AI-created memes related to the film that have also been widely shared online. Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey, Jeff Goldblum and Bowen Yang star alongside Erivo and Grande.

Cynthia Erivo, who stars as Elphaba in the upcoming “Wicked” adaptation, slammed the various memes and fan-made takes on the film’s poster, which she said “degrades” and “erases” her involvement. Many fans considered it an improvement on the official film poster, in which Erivo’s face is fully visible. “And that is just deeply hurtful.”The new "Wicked" poster is an "homage" to the original logo, not an exact copy, Erivo said. None of this is cute,” Erivo wrote. It degrades us.”Erivo, Grande and “Wicked” film director Jon M. Chu all re-shared the official poster on their Instagram stories on Wednesday.

Chu pleaded guilty to having seditiously worn a T-shirt with the protest slogan “Liberate Hong Kong, revolution of our times.”The slogan was chanted on the streets during the months of pro-democracy demonstrations that rocked Hong Kong in 2019. Chu told police the “Liberate Hong Kong” slogan called for the return of Hong Kong to British rule and that he wore the shirt to remind people of the protests, the court heard. Chung pleaded guilty on Thursday to three counts of seditious acts for writing slogans advocating Hong Kong independence and “Liberate Hong Kong, revolution of our times” on the back of bus seats in March and April. Beijing imposed a national security law in 2020 to quash the months-long protests in the financial hub. In March 2024, Hong Kong passed a second new security law.

Longer-term investors should ignore the daily racket surrounding interest rates and focus on generating income over the next 10 years, according to New York Life economist and chief market strategist Lauren Goodwin. Where to invest: Bonds and AI The strategist posits that over the next decade, interest rates are likely to remain elevated as neither party takes on deficit spending. "So depending on the investor, what they're looking for, there is a way to balance this medium term potential for interest rate risk while still locking in higher rates." Goodwin also sees investing around AI as a smart strategy long term, with large investments in the area continuing. "But because we see not only the government and companies, but also the consumer use case for AI, we expect that investment to continue.

HONG KONG — A Hong Kong man pleaded guilty Monday to sedition for wearing a T-shirt bearing a protest slogan, in the Chinese territory’s first conviction under new local national security legislation. He was arrested in November while wearing the shirt at the Hong Kong airport. Sedition is generally defined as inciting hatred or contempt against the Chinese central government, the Hong Kong government or the judiciary. Officials said the local legislation was necessary to close “loopholes” in a national security law that Beijing imposed in 2020, which did not cover sedition. Hong Kong and Chinese officials say both laws were necessary to restore stability after the protests, which sometimes turned violent.
