The health insurance CEO gunned down in front of a busy New York City hotel on Wednesday didn't travel with any personal security detail, officials said, despite known threats against him. Police place bullet casing markers outside of a Hilton hotel in midtown Manhattan on Wednesday where United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson was fatally shot. The slain CEO had been receiving recent threats but hadn't been altering his travel routine, according to wife Paulette Thompson. New York CNN —The CEO of UnitedHealthcare was shot and killed in midtown Manhattan Wednesday morning in an apparent targeted attack as he was about to attend the company’s annual investor conference, a law enforcement official tells CNN. Brian Thompson was walking toward the New York Hilton Hotel in Midtown Manhattan, dressed in a suit and tie, to attend UnitedHealthcare’s annual investor conference being held in the ballroom. The gunman fled, cutting through an alleyway and hopping on to a bicycle, the official told CNN. Police work the scene of a shooting, where UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was shot Wednesday in New York. CNN —When photographer Elizabeth Kahane’s husband asked where in New York they should live following their engagement in 1998, she had a very specific requirement for their marital home: A view of the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Its street-facing windows offered the perfect vantage point to watch — and photograph — the procession, which travels down through midtown Manhattan to Macy’s department store on Thanksgiving morning. The photographer has captured the spectacle almost every year since, missing the parade just twice in over a quarter of a century. Thomas the Tank Engine, the Kool-Aid Man and Boss Baby are just some of the dozens of other outsized characters Kahane has pictured floating slowly past her home — often at eye-level. In July, an EF2 tornado passed through Rome during a severe storm that killed one person and caused widespread damage. There are currently 13 wildfires across the state encompassing more than 5,000 acres, according to Governor Kathy Hochul’s office. An 18-year-old New York State Forest Ranger volunteer and state employee died on November 9 when a tree fell while he was responding to the wildfire in Greenwood Lake. NEW YORK — Abdi Nageeye of the Netherlands won the men’s race at the New York City Marathon on Sunday and Sheila Chepkirui of Kenya took the women’s event. Chepkirui was running New York for the first time and pulled away from defending champion Hellen Obiri in the women’s race. Kenya's Sheila Chepkirui crosses the finish line to win the women's elite race in the New York City Marathon on Sunday. The weather was perfect to run in with temperatures in the lower 40s when the race started. Last year, it was 61 degrees when the race started.

(CNN) — A New York woman has been indicted on hate crime charges after allegedly pepper-spraying a Muslim Uber driver while he was praying, according to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. Jennifer Guilbeault, 23, was indicted on multiple hate crime charges on Monday after allegedly pepper-spraying a 45-year-old Uber driver while he began praying in Arabic, according to a press release from the prosecutor. “As alleged, Jennifer Guilbeault senselessly assaulted a Muslim Uber driver while he was just doing his job. Everyone is welcome to live and work in Manhattan,” said Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. The charges against Guilbeault include one count each of Assault in the Second Degree as a Hate Crime, Assault in the Third Degree as a Hate Crime and Aggravated Harassment in the Second Degree.
