But Tadej Pogacar of Slovenia turned the tables on his rival and the defending champion, Jonas Vingegaard of Denmark, this year in the Tour de France, completing a smashing victory on Sunday to take his third title. Pogacar’s championship was confirmed in the final time trial from Monaco to Nice on Sunday. He capped his stellar three-week run with another stage win, his sixth, finishing 1:03 ahead of Vingegaard to take the Tour by 6:17 overall. “After two hard years in the Tour de France, always some mistakes,” Pogacar said. I am super happy to win here.”

On Friday, he went to a shooting range where he was a member, and practiced firing, a law enforcement official told CNN. Yet nearly 48 hours after the shooting, investigators are struck by the lack of leads they’re finding about Crooks’ mindset and possible motives. Investigators parsing through his online search history haven’t found any indication of him researching how to make home-made explosives, law enforcement officials said. While investigators had hoped that breakthough would help them understand what drove him to attempt to assassinate Trump, they’re still struggling to make sense of it, law enforcement officials said. But they didn’t seem to know much about what was going on in his life recently, law enforcement sources said.

Cars that run on hydrogen emit zero carbon at the tailpipe, but 96% of the world’s hydrogen is still derived from fossil fuels like methane gas. That makes most hydrogen-powered cars much more polluting than battery electric vehicles, or EVs, and only marginally cleaner than traditional combustion engine cars. Toyota is supplying the Game’s official fleet, which includes 500 Mirai cars and 10 coaches that run on hydrogen, as well as 1,150 EVs, to ferry athletes around. It is also one a few major automakers betting on hydrogen-powered vehicles, as well. Hydrogen vehicles have so far failed to take off as a popular choice for consumers, and very little infrastructure to refuel with hydrogen exists.

With three children and a dog, the Aguilar Ortega family trekked through the jungle, hopped freight trains and toured Times Square. Millions of Venezuelans like the Aguilar Ortega family have fled economic misery and political repression in their homeland as it descended into turmoil. “The kids want to go to New York,” Mr. Aguilar said in Spanish as he stood by his tent in Mexico City. Mr. Aguilar created hiding places for their cash, using toenail clippers to cut small openings into Hayli’s jacket and Josué’s pants. But, if NASCAR is known for anything, it’s the loud V8 internal combustion engines that power the race car. That’s why NASCAR wants to make it very clear that gasoline-burning race cars are in no immediate danger of extinction. ABB is also heavily involved in Formula E, the electric racing series affiliated with Formula 1. With many changes over the years, modern NASCAR race cars bear little resemblance to the Toyotas and Chevrolets that typical Americans own. This time, designers wanted to maintain that resemblance between the race car and the vehicles fans drive, which are, increasingly, SUVs.

Here’s what you need to know about the massive software outage. Its systems are used by roughly 15,000 car dealerships across the United States and Canada. Under normal circumstances, the CDK software allows the dealership to register a vehicle almost instantaneously, but now the process faces heavy delays. It said it was able to bring a “small initial test group” of car dealerships back online. But the next morning, the company told dealerships another incident had happened.

A team of international academics successfully sequenced the genomes of each of the eight baobab species, examining their relationship with one another and concluded that they originated in Madagascar. "Avenue of the Baobabs" in Western Madagascar is one of the most spectacular collections of the unusual trees. Gavinevans/Creative CommonsOnly one baobab species is not included in the IUCN’s Red List of Threatened Species: A. digitata, which populates mainland Africa. The likelihood of finding fossil evidence to rubberstamp the conclusions of the genetic data is slim, Dr. Wan conceded. So perhaps these majestic trees may retain some of their mystery after all.

There’s little to no escape from sweltering temperatures for construction workers like Eva Marroquin, who cleans work sites in Austin, Texas, and has worked in the industry for 17 years. Since 2010, she’s worked closely with the Workers Defense Project, an organization that advocates for protections for low-wage, immigrant workers in the Texas construction industry. Slowing down small businessesIt’s barely just now summer, and heatwaves are already slowing down small businesses, according to Homebase, which provides payroll software to more than 100,000 small businesses, covering 2 million hourly workers. “I think anything that impacts small businesses is affecting the economy as a whole,” he said, noting how small businesses account for half the jobs in the country. But Mate Rimac, the chief executive of the new company, now called Bugatti Rimac, said he never had any intention of making an all-electric Bugatti. Like the Bugatti Chiron and Veyron models before it, the new Bugatti Tourbillon will have a huge 16-cylinder gas engine. In total, the Bugatti Tourbillon will be able to put out at least 1,800 horsepower, according to Bugatti Rimac. Images of the burned vehicle flew through the Chinese internet: An Aito M7 Plus electric sport utility vehicle, operated by an advanced assisted driving system, had crashed on a highway in Shanxi Province on April 26. A woman who said her husband, brother and son had been killed posted videos online and pleaded for an investigation. All of her postings soon vanished, and she said she would not discuss it further. A Chinese business news outlet published a lengthy online investigation that questioned the safety of assisted driving systems. Then they posted a statement from Aito Car, a Chinese brand, that disavowed responsibility.

Bob Kelley, who turned the Kelley Blue Book, a price list published by his family’s used-car dealership, into one of the world’s leading authorities on cars, trucks, motorcycles and pretty much anything else that gets you from point A to point B, died on May 28 at his home in Indian Wells, Calif., east of Los Angeles. The Kelley Blue Book started in 1926 at the Kelley Kar Co., a Los Angeles dealership founded by Mr. Kelley’s father, Sidney, and an uncle, Leslie Kelley. Mr. Kelley joined the company after the end of World War II, a prime time to get into the used-car business. The war had put an end to new-car production, and it would be several years before automakers could meet the demand. He was initially in charge of both valuations on new inventory and compiling the book, and he brought a jeweler’s eye to the job.

By 1926, that list turned into the first Kelley Blue Book pricing guide for used cars. Long ago, Bob Kelley was a “lot boy” at the dealership run by his uncle and his father, Sidney “Buster” Kelley. In 1995, Kelley Blue Book started a website, making its data easily accessible to the general public, not just industry insiders.

CNN —Johnny Wactor, an actor who formerly starred in “General Hospital,” caught people in the act of stealing the catalytic converter from his car Saturday. But, up to last year, catalytic converter thefts had been rising sharply, up by a factor of four, since 2020. A catalytic converter cleans a car’s exhaust, making the air safer to breathe for all of us. On its website, the US Environmental Protection Agency has called the catalytic converter “one of the great environmental inventions of all time.” But it’s not what the catalytic converter does that attracts desperate criminals. For the most part, the catalytic converters end up getting sold to recycling companies that strip out the materials to make new catalytic converters.

They have become increasingly popular in the United States even as sales of purely electric models have started to slow. The German automaker Porsche, a division of Volkswagen AG, already sells plug-in hybrid models like the Cayenne e-Hybrid SUV and Panamera e-Hybrid four-door car, but a hybrid 911 is another matter. Initially, hybrid power will be available in only one version of the car, the high performance 911 Carrera GTS. In another major change for Porsche, this car will not be a plug-in hybrid, as other Porsche hybrid models have been. Besides hybrids, Porsche also sells fully electric cars, the Taycan and the new Macan Electric SUV.

Porsche’s iconic 911 is going hybrid

A hybrid Porsche 911, with its gas engine assisted by at least one battery-powered electric motor, will officially be revealed in an online event on May 28. Porsche itself already sells plug-in hybrid models like the Cayenne e-Hybrid SUV and Panamera e-Hybrid four-door car but a hybrid 911 is another matter. This new hybrid model will be the closest Porsche can get to an electric 911 without raising those sorts of philosophical questions. But we do know the hybrid 911 is clearly faster than the current purely gas-powered 911. The faster time indicates the hybrid 911 has greater power due to the addition of electric assistance.

Virtually every new vehicle sold in the last few years has sensors and cameras, including radar and sonar, throughout the body of the vehicle. These have made the repair process more complex because, unlike a smashed fender, a sensor or camera can’t just be bolted or welded back on. Some of these systems can cut crash rates in half, said Greg Brannon, director of automotive engineering at AAA. In a crash, these sensors and cameras can be damaged or just knocked out of alignment. Claim adjustors, who often come from the collision repair industry themselves, need to understand all the nuances involved in repairing these automated systems and sensors.

When Michael Jordan and his right-hand man, Curtis Polk, bought a NASCAR team in 2020 with the driver Denny Hamlin, they were prepared to endure short-term losses. The Next Generation cars that were introduced in 2022 would cost top teams about $18 million a year to run before paying a driver, and their team, 23xi, had two. But they believed they’d make that money back over time because NASCAR had a lot of room to grow. Sponsorships, the lifeblood of every race team, were still in demand, especially for a team owned by a basketball legend like Jordan. The main reason, they said, is NASCAR’s reluctance to share more of its growing revenue with 23xi and the 15 other racing teams in the NASCAR Cup Series.

But Huang’s family said Tesla oversold its Autopilot technology’s capabilities, and that it is not as safe to use as advertised. Tesla has come under intense scrutiny for its Autopilot technology over the six years since Huang’s fatal crash. That didn’t happen in the case of Huang’s crash, Tesla has said. Although Huang’s family acknowledges he was distracted while the car was driving, they argue Tesla is at fault because it falsely marketed Autopilot as self-driving software. If the jury finds in favor of Huang’s family, Tesla could have to pay damages, and they could add up quickly.
