Ohio has a shortage of plumbers. The job has an average salary of nearly $60,000—20% more than the typical worker makes in the Buckeye State. Some Ohio plumbers make six figures, which goes pretty far in a state where the cost of living is among the lowest in the nation. It covers the roughly 650 Ohio professions—accounting for roughly 1 in 5 jobs—that require workers to obtain an occupational license. Acquiring these government permission slips typically involves some combination of education and training, and would-be license holders must almost always pay the state for the privilege of working.
When the going gets tough, PE gets going. Insider's Casey Sullivan and Rebecca Ungarino examined one segment of Wall Street that is primed to take off despite an economy that has left almost everyone hurting. The big question is where will PE firms look to deploy capital. How long PE firms resist those types of deals still remains to be seen, though. People who left Wall Street for crypto aren't second guessing themselves.
Senate hopefuls JD Vance and Tim Ryan are making their closing pitches to Ohio voters. Some Buckeye State Republicans give Democrat Ryan points for his fighting spirit. Ohio Senate hopeful JD Vance mingles with local Republicans during Ohio GOP's bus tour stop in Zanesville, Ohio. She can't say the same for Vance, who Drenan claims waffled about abortion in his final debate with Ryan. "That's how dissatisfied I am with Republicans right now."
GOP Senate hopeful JD Vance is racing across Ohio ahead of the midterms. A Trump fan at a recent rally criticized Vance for moving on from the 2020 election challenges. Vance and Ohio's GOP leaders are pushing election deniers aside, but Trump's base won't budge. "I think it was stolen," Drenan told Insider about the last election. But we've moved on," Fawcett told Insider at the Zanesville rally.
Tim Ryan recently told Rolling Stone he rejected any "bullcrap" of Democrats not contesting Ohio. The Democratic Senate nominee said that the idea of skipping over the state was "insulting." As the campaign enters its final stretch, Ryan remains locked in a competitive race with JD Vance. Despite minimal national Democratic spending, Ryan has raised over $47.3 million for his campaign as of October 19, according to OpenSecrets. Mike DeWine and the GOP tint of the state's rural and exurban areas — Ryan has remained in the game.
JD Vance has a one-point lead over Tim Ryan in the Ohio Senate race, according to a new Marist poll. Among voters who indicated that they were highly likely to vote in November, Vance led by a similar one-point margin (48%-47%). Ryan led Vance by 11 percentage points (50%-39%) among nonwhite voters. Rep. Tim Ryan is the 2022 Ohio Democratic Senate nominee. DeWine, who is seeking a second term in office, received the backing of 92% of Republicans and attracted the support of 10% of Democratic respondents.
