Britain’s Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said Wednesday that the government was considering whether to take further action after Chinese consular staff in Manchester, England, were filmed pulling a protester onto its grounds and beating him. A pro-democracy Hong Kong protester, Bob Chan, has said he sought hospital treatment after being beaten by a group of men who emerged from the consulate to rip down protest placards critical of China’s leader, Xi Jinping , and then dragged him inside. Greater Manchester police have said they are investigating the case as an assault.

Britain’s foreign secretary summoned China’s second-most senior diplomat in the U.K. on Tuesday to express the U.K.’s “deep concern” about the assault allegations and to demand an explanation for the actions of the Chinese consulate staff. The protesters had gathered at the consulate as the Chinese Communist Party opened its weeklong congress in Beijing on Sunday. The people of Iran are in open revolt, this time led by courageous young women protesting the murder of Mahsa Amini, a young Kurdish woman who died in the custody of the morality police, and the law requiring they wear hijab. Most significantly, this current uprising over the murder of a Kurdish 22-year-old is being led by the young women of the TikTok generation. Pro-regime chants of “death to America” and “death to Israel” have been a staple of the rhetorical diet fed to the public. To that end, pro-Palestinian sympathy was ingrained in Iran’s propaganda via school textbooks, television programs, sports, cartoons, billboards and more. In 1979, the people of Iran yearned for a democratic revolution; instead, they got an Islamic dictatorship.

DUBAI — Iran summoned the British and Norwegian ambassadors over what it called interference and hostile media coverage of the nationwide unrest triggered by the death of a woman detained by morality police. European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said Iran should “immediately stop the violent crackdown on protests and ensure internet access. He also said that “acts of chaos” were unacceptable and that Iran must deal decisively with the unrest. Iran’s state television said 41 people have been killed since the protests broke out following Amini’s death on Sept 16. State media said 12 bank branches were destroyed in the unrest in recent days, and 219 ATMs have been damaged.
