United Airlines is weighing fleet plans without the Boeing 737 Max 10 after a series of delays and most recently, the grounding of a smaller variant of the plane, the carrier's CEO said Tuesday. The Max 10 is the largest model of the plane and hasn't yet been certified by the Federal Aviation Administration. United has 79 of the 737 Max 9 aircraft in its fleet, more than any other carrier. "We're going to at least build a plan that doesn't have the Max 10 in it." Last week, Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian told CNBC last week that he is confident moving forward with his airline's order of Boeing Max 10s.

United Airlines said Monday it will lose money in the first three months of this year because of the grounding of its Boeing 737 Max 9 planes after a panel blew out of a Max jetliner this month. United said it expects to lose between 35 cents and 85 cents per share in the first quarter. United said it will recover to earn a full-year profit of between $9 and $11 per share. United has 79 Max 9s in its fleet, which numbers around 1,000 planes, not counting those used by regional affiliates. Shares of United Airlines Holdings Inc. fell 1% in regular trading, but rose 7% in the first few minutes of extended trading after release of the financial results and forecasts.

Delta Air Lines expects to move forward with an order of Boeing 737 Max 10 aircraft as the plane manufacturer struggles with issues surrounding the Max 9, the carrier's CEO told CNBC on Friday. The airline ordered 100 Max 10s in 2022 and deliveries are expected to begin in 2025, its first Boeing order in more than a decade. The Max 10, the largest model of the 737 Max, has not yet been approved by regulators. The 737 Max, Boeing's best-selling aircraft, has had a troubled history since deliveries first began in 2017. Delta flies over 500 Boeing jets a day, but does not fly either the Max or the 787, according to Bastian.

HYDERABAD, India (AP) — India’s newest airline will buy 150 Boeing 737 Max aircraft, in the first major announced sale for the manufacturer since a panel blew out of another Max model in midflight earlier this month, the airline announced Thursday. Akasa Air CEO Vinay Dube announced the order of the Boeing 737 Max 10 and 737 Max 8-200 planes at an airshow in the southern Indian city of Hyderabad. The panel that blew out of an Alaska Airlines jetliner this month was manufactured in Malaysia by Boeing’s leading supplier, the head of the agency investigating the incident said Wednesday. The officials indicated that their separate investigations of Boeing and the accident are in the early stages. Boeing said CEO David Calhoun visited the Wichita factory of Spirit AeroSystems, which makes a large part of the fuselage on Boeing Max jets and installs the part that came off an Alaska Airlines jetliner. An Alaska Airlines Max 9 was forced to make an emergency landing on Jan. 5 after a panel called a door plug blew out of the side of the plane shortly after takeoff from Portland, Oregon. The NTSB is investigating the accident, while the FAA investigates whether Boeing and its suppliers followed quality-control procedures.

The crack was discovered about 40 minutes after take-off in the “second window from the right out of six windows in the cockpit,” ANA said. All 65 passengers and crew of the ANA flight 1182 arrived back safely, it added. The crack was discovered in the outermost of four layers of tempered glass on the cockpit window, the airline said. On January 5, a door plug on an Alaska Airlines flight blew open mid-flight, leaving a refrigerator-sized hole in the fuselage. The FAA said last week it was opening an investigation into Boeing’s quality control due to the failure of the door plug.

Nov 24 (Reuters) - Airline operator Virgin Australia (IPO-VIR.AX) on Friday said it has added six Boeing MAX-8 aircraft to further expand its fleet and meet travel demand, taking its total order for the planes to fourteen. Australia's second-biggest carrier returned to a profit for the first time in 11 years in fiscal 2023, buoyed by a strong recovery in travel demand following the COVID-19 pandemic. "Travel demand remains high and we continue to grow and renew our fleet, enabling us to deliver great value and choice in the market," Virgin Australia Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer Alistair Hartley said. The MAX-8 aircrafts will enter the domestic and short-haul international routes including Fiji, Bali and Samoa, the carrier said. Alaska Airlines is retiring its 10 remaining Airbus A321neo aircraft on September 30. Alaska Airlines is on track to be an all-Boeing operator by year's end. In a recent earnings call, the Seattle-based carrier said the remaining 10 planes in its Airbus A321neo fleet will be retired by fall 2023. Alaska once had 72 Airbus aircraft after merging with Virgin America in 2018 and has already gotten rid of its A319 and A320ceo aircraft as of January 2023. With all of the Airbus planes gone, Alaska will only operate Boeing 737 jets in its mainline fleet.
The NewsRyanair, the European low-cost airline, said on Tuesday that it had agreed to buy 150 737 Max 10 airplanes, its largest-ever Boeing order. At list prices, 150 planes would sell for more than $20 billion, though Boeing and other manufacturers typically agree to deep discounts for such large orders. The jets are expected to replace older, smaller and less-efficient Boeing planes and be delivered between 2027 and 2033. Ryanair expects to fly 225 million passengers in its 2026 fiscal year, up from 149 million passengers a year before the pandemic. In the fiscal year that ended in March 2022, the airline flew 97 million passengers.

LONDON/NEW DELHI, Dec 16 (Reuters) - Air India is close to a deal to order more than 200 Boeing (BA.N) jets including 190 narrowbody 737 MAX and 30 widebody 787s - part of an historic fleet shake-up roughly split with Boeing's European rival Airbus, industry sources said on Friday. The deal is also expected to include an unspecified number of Boeing 777X long-range jets, they added. Airbus (AIR.PA) is separately moving towards a deal with Air India including at least 200 of its A320-family narrowbody jets as well as dozens of larger A350s, industry sources said. Industry sources said Airbus is expected to win a slightly larger share of the huge fleet replacement and expansion. Bloomberg reported on Friday that Boeing was closing in on an order for as many as 200 of its 737 MAX jets.
