When the Standard, an off-campus student housing complex, opened in the fall in Bloomington, Ind., welcoming its first batch of residents, it had a decidedly resort vibe. Along with the requisite pool and fitness centers, it enticed students with two pickleball courts, a dog park and a motion sports simulator. The arms race over amenities in student housing is nothing new, but what is striking about the Standard is its size: 1,000 beds, about twice the size of a typical dorm. In fact, the Standard could house 3 percent of Indiana University’s 34,000-plus undergraduates. Off-campus student housing complexes across the country are getting larger, some home to more than 1,500 students, and they are being built on prime parcels as close to campus as possible, as developers seek to better manage their bottom line.

NEW YORK (AP) — The Los Angeles Opera has scrapped plans for the world premiere of Mason Bates' “The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay” this fall because of finances. The work will instead open with a student cast at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music. Cremo sent an email last month to Abra K. Bush, dean of the Jacobs School, suggesting the shift. Bates, 47, won a Grammy Award in 2019 for “The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs,” which premiered at the Santa Fe Opera in 2017 and was coproduced with the Jacobs School. “It's a story about Jewish immigrants changing American culture and certainly that resonates in LA,” Bates said.

Summer Science Program, a nonprofit with an annual budget of about $2 million, sent about 200 high school juniors to six-week intensive research courses at universities this year. Summer Science Program learned last year that one of its alumni, Franklin Antonio, a co-founder of chipmaker Qualcomm, had granted the organization 20% of his estate, said CEO Frank Steslow. The program intends to double the number of students enrolled next summer to more than 400 and increased its annual budget to over $7 million. Summer Science Program has already received a first payment of $65 million, and the funds are unrestricted. But he added, “it seems unusual at first until you realize that the organization itself is almost like a gift restriction, because they’re very specific in what they do,” referring to Summer Science Program.

CNN —Bobby Knight, who was one of college basketball’s winningest coaches and who guided Indiana University to three national championships, has died at the age of 83, his family announced on Wednesday. “It is with heavy hearts that we share that Coach Bob Knight passed away at his home in Bloomington (Indiana) surrounded by his family,” his family posted to his website. Known as “The General,” Knight won 11 Big Ten Conference titles and 662 games in 29 seasons at Indiana. Knight also coached the gold medal-winning US men’s basketball team during the 1984 Summer Olympics Games in Los Angeles. BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (AP) — The food delivery business Yelloh — formerly known as Schwan's Home Delivery — is cutting 750 jobs nationwide and closing 90 delivery centers. The closures for the Bloomington, Minnesota-based company will begin Dec. 8. The company will continue to serve 18 states with its iconic yellow trucks. In 2018, the Schwan family sold a 70% share of its business to the Korean firm CJ CheilJedang for $1.8 billion. But the family kept the Schwan's Home Delivery business and rebranded it last year as Yelloh.

Chipotle said it plans to keep 53 college-town stores open until midnight on Halloween. The chain said it is targeting college towns popular with Gen Z, a group that likes to eat late. But instead of going national with its late-night business, Chipotle is targeting "college towns that eat the most Chipotle," the chain announced Wednesday. The fresh-Mex chain, which has more than 3,250 restaurants, said 53 college towns will stay open until midnight on Halloween – a busy night for the brand. July 3 (Reuters) - Elon Musk's move to temporarily cap how many posts Twitter users can read on the social media site could undermine efforts by the company's new Chief Executive Linda Yaccarino to attract advertisers, marketing industry professionals said. Under the new cap, unverified accounts were initially limited to 600 posts a day with new unverified accounts limited to 300. Verified accounts could read 6,000 posts a day, Musk said in a post on the site. Hours later, he said the cap was raised to 10,000 posts per day for verified users, 1,000 per day for unverified and 500 posts per day for new unverified users. Kai-Cheng Yang, researcher at Indiana University in Bloomington, said that the limits appeared to be effective in blocking third parties, including search engines, from scraping Twitter data like before.
