EASTERN UKRAINE, Oct 1 (Reuters) - Ukrainian military helicopter pilot Oleh, 22, has become used to flying low over fields and woods to track targets in the war to destroy and evict Russian invaders. All too aware of the risks of low altitudes, he nonetheless presses on, establishing and hunting down enemy positions. Missiles and guided bombs were launched at our helicopters," Oleh acknowledges, seated at the controls of his Soviet-designed Mi-8 aircraft. His helicopter missions, he said, target mostly infantry, but also reinforced enemy positions "and sometimes vehicles. Helicopter pilots must fly at low altitudes to avoid becoming targets for enemy anti-aircraft defences.

The Taipan fleet will not return to flying operations before the previously planned withdrawal date of December 2024, Defence Minister Richard Marles said. Australia in January said it would buy 40 Black Hawk military helicopters, manufactured by Lockheed Martin (LMT.N), for an estimated A$2.8 billion ($1.80 billion). The Black Hawks are set to replace the Australian army's fleet of Taipan helicopters, which have been plagued for years by maintenance issues. "The first of the 40 Black Hawks that will replace the (Taipan) MRH-90 have arrived and are already flying in Australia. Marles acknowledged there would be "capability challenges" without an operational Taipan fleet and as defence waits for the delivery of more Black Hawks.

CNN —A series of controversial proposals to address the airline pilot shortage is complicating Congress’ consideration of a new slate of Federal Aviation Administration policies with one senator warning fellow lawmakers there will be blood on their hands if reduced pilot training causes a fatal accident. The measures presented by lawmakers include raising the pilot retirement age, allowing more training to occur in a flight simulator rather than aircraft cockpit, and fast-tracking training programs. The measures are hotly contested and are aimed at addressing a shortage in airline pilots that was exacerbated by the pandemic. The Illinois Democrat scolded those who feel simulator training will be equivalent and said she didn’t believe reducing training hours would solve the shortage. On the House side, the House Transportation Committee narrowly approved an amendment that would raise the mandatory pilot retirement age by two years to 67.

"They will be deployed to hot spots along the border to intercept to repel and to turn back migrants who are trying to enter Texas illegally," Abbott said at a news conference. The elite National Guard team will focus on any such surges that occur, identifying crossing points and shutting them down, he said. The Biden administration is sending 1,500 additional troops to help secure the U.S.-Mexico border this week. The government also will finalize by Thursday a new rule denying asylum to many migrants caught crossing the U.S.-Mexico border illegally. Abbott said he would continue busing migrants from small Texas border towns to big cities like Chicago and New York.
The US Army has temporarily grounded all its aviation units except those on "critical missions." The order follows two mid-air collisions in Alaska and Kentucky that killed 12 soldiers. Units will remain grounded until they complete extra training, the army said. The suspension is effective immediately and grounds all aircraft except those "participating in critical missions," an Army statement said on Friday, according to the Associated Press. The incident followed another fatal collision in March in which two Black Hawk medical evacuation helicopters crashed and killed nine soldiers.
The Sulacks weighed their options: Have a transplant with a match that was less than ideal – far less – or wait for gene therapy to become available. The news release didn’t say anything else about the SCID gene therapy. Or was the company abandoning its plans for SCID gene therapy altogether? In February, 2021, the parents of more than 20 children who were waiting for the gene therapy treatment, including the Sulacks, wrote a letter to Gaspar. Insurance companies have sometimes balked at paying for gene therapy, which is typically given in one treatment.

WASHINGTON, April 6 (Reuters) - The U.S. Government Accountability Office on Thursday denied Lockheed Martin Corp's (LMT.N) protest of the Army contract for the Future Long Range-Assault Aircraft worth as much as a $7.1 billion, awarded to Textron Inc's (TXT.N) Bell helicopter unit over Lockheed's Sikorsky unit.
