As Election Day approaches, the campaigns are putting significant time and attention toward courting Black men, seen as a crucial — and potentially movable — voting bloc in a tight presidential race. However, that number drops to 68% for Black men under 50, compared to 21% who support Trump. “It’s very important to not operate from the assumption that Black men are in anybody’s pocket,” she said during an interview with the National Association of Black Journalists in September. For Trump’s part, efforts to reach Black men voters through campaign surrogates or Trump himself have lessened in recent months. Bartell also pointed to Kevin Cooper, a Black man on death row for killing a white family, as well as marijuana convictions of Black men.

WASHINGTON — Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump on Friday called the judge overseeing the Jan. 6-related federal criminal case against him "the most evil person," despite threats U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan has already faced from his supporters. They do show that Smith’s team is relying upon transcripts of interviews and other information disclosed by the House Jan. 6 Committee, which dissolved after Democrats lost the House in 2022. Chutkan began overseeing the Trump case following his first federal indictment in the Jan. 6-related case in August 2023 and made clear from the beginning that Trump's 2024 presidential candidacy would have no impact on her handling of the case. You know, judge is supposed to keep— what judge would say ‘We’re going to release something, you know, a couple of days before.'" One key to Smith's case is his contention that Trump knew the lies he spread to his followers about the 2020 election were, in fact, false.

Her decision to appear on The Shade Room and other less traditional platforms has left many scratching their heads. But it’s a strategy to reach young, Black voters who are increasingly turning to social media for news. Fifty-two percent of polled adults under 30 said they have a lot or some trust in information that comes from social media. That is most likely what led Harris to The Shade Room, which has more than 29 million followers on Instagram and is known for saucy celebrity gossip and salacious headlines. A federal judge on Wednesday temporarily blocked Alabama’s voter removal program that flagged thousands of registered voters and accused them of illegally registering in the state. The Justice Department sued the state of Alabama challenging the program aimed at removing voters from its election rolls, arguing it was too close to the Nov. 5 election. Allen announced a process for purging 3,251 registered Alabama voters in August, 84 days before Election Day. The case is among several instances of voter purges in Republican-led states ahead of this fall’s presidential election. The Justice Department lawsuit said it has already been determined that legal voters were mistakenly purged from the voter rolls.

Black men have historically voted overwhelmingly for Democratic candidates, with turnout typically lagging that of Black women but consistent nonetheless. Even a relatively small drop in support from Black men for Harris could be significant given the razor-thin margins in battleground states. “Black men prioritize being the primary breadwinners of the household and care about real wages and permanent jobs. The Harris campaign also plans to ramp up its programming specifically designed to engage Black men. This week, it is set to partner with Black male celebrities, influencers and activists to hold “Black Men Huddle Up” events in battleground states, NFL and NCAA watch parties that will double as an avenue for Black men to discuss the stakes of the election.

That's because of a twisty backstory involving gun-shy Hollywood studios, a fledgling producer, and his father-in-law: Dan Snyder, a billionaire Trump supporter who initially bankrolled the movie. Related storiesYou got a Trump supporter to fund this movie, which in no way is a movie a Trump supporter would want to see, let alone fund. And so indirectly, a Republican Trump donor's money was paying for the production of this movie. The nightmare scenario would be that we shoot this movie and then Dan Snyder hates the movie and somehow is able to block it. Assuming the Senate continues confirming pending nominees when it returns in November, the next president is poised to inherit the smallest number of judicial vacancies since when George H.W. 'Set their sights on getting judges confirmed'The amount of judicial vacancies at any one time is fluid and can rise or fall based on circumstances. During his four years in office, Trump appointed 234 federal judges, the second-highest amount by a one-term president. “If Trump is elected, the judiciary becomes the Trump judiciary,” said Maggie Jo Buchanan, managing director of Demand Justice. Some Republicans believe that tradition will continue in the coming years, which could limit the amount of judicial vacancies the next president is able to fill.

"They're trying to keep her away," Steve Shurtleff, a former Democratic speaker of the New Hampshire House of Representatives, said of the Harris campaign. Harris’ campaign has acted as if she’s sitting on a lead, even though she has failed to separate from her opponent, former President Donald Trump, others said. That may look different in today’s evolving media environment than prior campaigns, but coupled with campaign events, aggressive organizing and a historic paid media campaign, it’s a winning approach." “They are very cautious,” a person involved in Harris’ race said of her campaign. In today’s edition, we examine how Donald Trump is making baseless claims of "election interference" as he faces federal charges himself. Trump casts 'election interference' label on everything while facing federal chargesFormer President Donald Trump has never stopped propagating falsehoods that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him. This year, Trump and his campaign have cited more than a dozen examples of so-called election interference activities by Americans to claim the coming election is being unfairly manipulated. The latest instance came after the judge overseeing his federal election interference case in Washington released a redacted filing from special counsel Jack Smith. “The Democrat Party is guilty of the Worst Election Interference in American History,” Trump wrote Wednesday on social media.

The filing asserts that Trump knew that the claims he was spreading about the 2020 election were lies, with Smith's team arguing that Trump didn't believe his own falsehoods but instead spread them as part of his broader scheme to stay in power. Trump, Smith's team said, was informed that election night results might be misleading because it would take a while to count mail-in ballots, which were expected to be favorable to Joe Biden. Trump, Smith's team said, declared to his advisors that he "would simply declare victory before all the ballots were counted and a winner was projected" and publicly began laying the groundwork by telling his supporters he'd only lose if there was fraud. Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung called the Smith team's filing “falsehood-ridden" and tied its release to the vice presidential debate, even though it was known to be coming soon. New York officials released Monday forensic sketches and informational flyers about a possible new victim in the Gilgo Beach serial killings case, in an effort to identify them and get new leads in the roughly 20-year-old homicide. The remains of the victim, referred to as “Asian Doe,” were found in 2011 near the bodies of at least 10 others near Long Island, New York’s Gilgo Beach. Long Island architect Rex Heuermann, 61, was arrested last year in connection with the Gilgo Beach serial killings. Heuermann was initially charged with killing three women — Megan Waterman, Amber Costello and Melissa Barthelemy — and dumping their bodies near Gilgo Beach. Authorities previously disclosed that “Asian Doe” was wearing women’s clothing, but did not provide further details.

CNN —Prosecutors are expected to provide new information Monday about a victim referred to as “Asian Doe” in the investigation into Gilgo Beach serial killings suspect Rex Heuermann. Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney said his office will present the development at a news conference after a court proceeding in Heuermann’s case. The arrest came after years of searching for the person responsible for a string of unsolved killings targeting women. At least 11 sets of human remains have been found on Long Island’s Suffolk County, including those belonging to women Heuermann is accused of killing. “This was a planning document used by Heuermann to methodically blueprint and plan out his kills with excruciating detail.

But the command investigation said Yaste was relieved after the McCain lost steering during a July fuel replenishment that damaged a Navy oiler. The troubled destroyer remained at sea, and the command investigation said there was no evidence any notable troubleshooting efforts occurred after July 9. The August command investigation found that McCain crewmembers made a variety of mistakes, including failing to follow loss-of-steering procedures or communicating sufficiently between controlling stations.
