At least 16 people were killed and dozens more wounded on July 30 by a bomb blast at a political gathering of a radical Islamic party in northern Pakistan, police said. At least 55 people were killed and 135 were wounded in what one official said was a suicide attack. Jalil Jan, a spokesperson for the political party, told NBC News the death toll had risen to 55 and that some of the 135 injuries were critical. Party officials said Rehman was not in the rally. Rehman is considered to be a pro-Taliban cleric and his political party is part of the coalition government in Islamabad.

ISLAMABAD, July 19 (Reuters) - Pakistan will open criminal proceedings against former prime minister Imran Khan on charges of exposing official secrets, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said on Wednesday, the latest in a string of cases the former premier has been facing. The case is related to diplomatic correspondence between Washington and Islamabad, which Khan said early last year was part of a U.S. conspiracy to topple his government. Sanaullah said the principal secretary also testified that Khan told him he had lost the copy of the letter when he was asked for its return. "It is a crime to expose an official secret," the interior minister said, adding the state will be filing the charges in the court against Khan. The secrecy charge is the latest in a multitude of charges Khan has faced since his ouster, including graft, murder and sedition.

KARACHI, Pakistan, May 6 (Reuters) - Bowler Matt Henry is hopeful New Zealand can avoid a series whitewash in Pakistan by producing an improved display in Sunday's fifth and final one-day international against the world number one side. The team under Tom Latham managed to draw the preceding T20 series 2-2 but Pakistan have taken an unassailable 4-0 lead in the one-day series. "It's a shame we really haven't had the success that we wanted to ... " Henry told reporters after the loss. Henry had no hesitations admitting Pakistan had outplayed his team in home conditions. "Obviously it's frustrating to be four-nil but sometimes you've got to give kudos to the way that Pakistan have been playing their cricket.

But the Supreme Court ruled that the delay was illegal and voting in the two provinces should be held between April 30 and May 15. It said the provincial assembly election in Punjab, Pakistan's most prosperous and politically important province should be on May 14. The court also ordered the government to release 21 billion rupees ($73.17 million) to the election commission to organise the two provincial elections. Parliament last week introduced a draft law to clip the powers of the Supreme Court.
The risk comes when a lake overfills, bursting through its natural barrier and sending a torrent of water rushing down mountain valleys. In the high mountains of Asia, some 9 million people live near more than 2,000 glacial lakes. "The impacts are already visible as the glacier is thinning and retreating," said Farooq Azam, a glaciologist at the Indian Institute of Technology Indore who monitors Chhota Shigri. During the same time period, Himalayan glacial lakes increased by about 9% in number, and 14% in area. More than 200 lakes now pose a very high hazard to Himalayan communities, according to 2022 research.
England scent victory after bold declaration

Having taken a 78-run lead in the runfest, England declared their second innings on 264-7 to set Pakistan an improbable victory target of 343 with four sessions to go. Opener Imam-ul-Haq (43) and debutant Saud Shakeel (24) were resisting England's victory march when bad light stopped play. Agha Salman's breezy 53 frustrated England who had to toil for about 75 minutes to claim the last three Pakistan wickets. England were rattled early in their second innings with Naseem Shah in the thick of things. Naseem dismissed Ben Duckett, one of four century-makers in England's first innings, for a first-ball duck with the second delivery of the innings.
Ben Stokes of England celebrates victory following during the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Final match between Pakistan and England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on November 13, 2022 in Melbourne, Australia. Ben Stokes starred in a final once again as England became dual white-ball world champions after overcoming Pakistan by five wickets to win the T20 World Cup at the MCG. England rallied to overpower New Zealand, edge past Sri Lanka and decimate India before seeing off Pakistan to end their opponents' hopes of winning the T20 World Cup for a second time and of repeating their victory over England at the MCG in the 1992 50-over final. Babar's exit came at the start of the 12th over with Pakistan 84-2 and they went on lose six wickets for 47 runs. England will remain in Australia to play a three-match one-day international series against Australia, beginning on Thursday at Adelaide before fixtures at the SCG on Saturday and MCG on November 22.
CNN —England won the T20 World Cup Final in sensational style, defeating Pakistan by five wickets in front of more than 80,000 fans at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday. As he did three years ago when England won the one-day World Cup, Stokes hit the winning runs and, with those runs, England became the first ever men’s side to hold the one day and T20 World Cup at the same time. I think the way we bowled, Adil Rashid, Sam Curran, that’s what won us the game,” Stokes said afterwards, according to the BBC. William West/AFP/Getty ImagesPakistan batted first, after England won the toss and elected to bowl, but struggled to set a high total under a barrage of precise bowling. But England attacked off the final four overs and wrapped up the victory with six balls to spare.
The tournament has already seen a slew of Super 12 matches washed out, though the semi-finals passed without disruption in Sydney and Adelaide. In the worst-case scenario where Monday is also washed out, then the World Cup will have joint winners for the first time. However, Melbourne is known for having "four seasons in one day", particularly in spring, and forecasts are often wide of the mark. "On the day, I'm sure that Melbourne is going to open up enough to have a 10-over match." Virat Kohli struck an imperious half-century and Ravichandran Ashwin was cool at the death as India secured a four-wicket win on the final ball against arch-rivals Pakistan at the T20 World Cup on Sunday in front of a huge Melbourne Cricket Ground crowd. Kohli was bowled off the free hit on the next ball but the ball rattled for three byes off the stumps. Fans show their support during the ICC Men's T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan at Melbourne Cricket Ground. “All credit to Hardik Pandya and Virat Kohli,” said Pakistan captain Babar Azam. “They shifted the momentum and finished the game well … We had a chance, and we just asked the boys to believe in themselves, but again credit to Virat Kohli.”

Excitement is already building for the Oct. 23 blockbuster between the former champions in Melbourne but India captain Rohit sought to downplay the hype around one of cricket's greatest rivalries. "At the Asia Cup, and now here, whenever we meet, we talk about how things are back home, how the families are," Rohit said. "The previous generation of cricketers told us they too used to chat about these things -- 'how's life? Whenever we come across, I try to tap into his experience since he has served India for such a long time.
