Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addresses a joint meeting of Congress on Wednesday, July 24. But by the end of his speech, it was clear the Israeli prime minister had focused far more on fighting until victory in Gaza than brokering a ceasefire deal. “Give us the tools we need, and we will finish the job,” Netanyahu urged members of Congress. Netanyahu also claimed there were “practically” no civilian casualties during Israeli military operations in Rafah. That is unquestionably false: Multiple strikes in Rafah have resulted in civilian casualties.

CNN —Within minutes of President Joe Biden endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris to replace him on the Democratic Party’s ticket on Sunday, the internet crackled with lies, altered photos and other misleading claims about Harris. Some supporters of former President Donald Trump – the Republican nominee in the November election – even suggested Biden was the victim of a coup. Meanwhile, a slew of slickly edited pro-Harris videos quickly proliferated on social media as her backers tried to capitalize on the moment. Biden’s likeness was also exploited in the aftermath of his announcement, which came via a post on social media and not televised address. Harris’ team has also embraced a viral post from British pop singer Charli XCX that referred to Harris as “brat,” a concept that includes women and queer empowerment.

The reality, however, was much more mundane: a botched software update from the cybersecurity company CrowdStrike. "In this case, it was a content update," said Nick Hyatt, director of threat intelligence at security firm Blackpoint Cyber. And because CrowdStrike has such a broad base of customers, it was the content update felt around the world. In this case, the content update was tied to the CrowdStrike Falcon monitoring software. Software updates should be rolled out incrementally One lesson from the global IT outage, O'Neill said, is that CrowdStrike's update should have been rolled out incrementally.

Three Israeli hostages were rescued from his family’s building on June 8. “Hamas only trusts Hamas when it comes to those very sensitive issues such as Israeli hostages,” he said. The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office told CNN she was held by the Abu Nar family but did not provide further details. Three relatives of Abu Nar also posted on social media announcing he had been killed by Israeli forces that day. Many locals questioned why so many Palestinians had to die for the Israeli forces to rescue just four hostages.

In fact, for many if not most jobs, there are no legal prohibitions on hiring those with criminal records. And when a criminal record of any kind turns up, that can kill a person’s chances, regardless of how well-qualified they may be for a position, either because an employer has a high aversion to risk or a bias against those with a record, Love said. Or the paperwork and time required to get approval for someone with a criminal record may be such that an employer simply decides to look at candidates without a record. “Sometimes people believe they are required to turn my clients down because of a criminal conviction. That law provides for eligible conviction records to be automatically “sealed,” meaning they should no longer show up on employer background checks.

The allegations provide a window into the scale and force of this Israeli operation to free hostages taken during the attack on Israel last October. The UN human rights office (OHCHR) warned that Israeli forces and Palestinian armed groups may have committed war crimes through their actions. CNNMohammad told CNN that before the Israeli forces withdrew, they threatened to shoot his relatives, after which he heard gunshots. “I called the ambulance, but they said they cannot come because the area is dangerous,” Mohammad told CNN. “Is this a political war to the knife?”I was not familiar with that term – “war to the knife” – but Bannon also recently used it in an interview with ex-Fox News host Tucker Carlson. Ousted from White House role in 2017Bannon’s tenure in Trump’s White House was relatively short; he was fired in August 2017, part of a major reorganization under then-chief of staff John Kelly, who was brought in to control a chaotic atmosphere. As chief strategist at the White House, Bannon was known for large whiteboards full of lists of priorities – things that still ring true in the priorities he outlined over the weekend. Courts, Congress and mismanagement kept Bannon and Trump from achieving many of these goals in Trump’s first term. Anticipating the potential for a second Trump term, there are any number of supporters who are mapping out how to make the most of it.

Eyewitnesses told CNN Thursday how fighters from Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) descended upon Wad al-Nour village in the central Al-Jazira state on Wednesday. Both the Sudanese army and the RSF have faced damning accusations of civilian massacres since the civil war broke out in April 2023. The RSF acknowledged the attack in a statement Wednesday and said it was a pre-emptive attack on Sudan’s Armed Forces (SAF), camps in Wad Al-Noura in response to a planned attack by the army. This was not the first attempt by the RSF to control Wad al-Noura, as they have tried several times to take the village. CNN —Munitions made in the United States were used in the deadly Israeli strike on a displacement camp in Rafah on Sunday, a CNN analysis of video from the scene and a review by explosive weapons experts has found. Footage obtained by CNN showed swathes of the camp in Rafah in flames, with scores of men, women and children frantically trying to find cover from the nighttime assault. “The warhead portion [of the munition] is distinct, and the guidance and wing section is extremely unique compared to other munitions. Asked for comment on the munitions used in the Rafah strike at Tuesday’s briefing, Pentagon deputy press secretary Sabrina Singh told reporters: “I do not know what type of munition was used in that airstrike. Hagari said the deadly fire which occurred following the strike was not caused solely by weapons used by the Israeli military.

Earlier this month, the adtech firm Kevel announced that it had raised $23 million in a Series C round of funding to help retailers set up and run advertising businesses. Fourteen-year-old Kevel, formerly known as Adzerk, sells software that brands, including Klarna and Delivery Hero, pay a monthly fee for to manage advertising businesses on e-commerce websites. Kevel's products help retailers sell search ads on e-commerce websites, provide an ad server to manage and place ads, and give access to an audience tool that collects retailers' first-party data. Kevel competes with a growing number of adtech firms that help retailers stand up ad businesses, like Criteo, Epsilon, and Microsoft. Kevel doesn't sell ads, which Avery said the firm benefits from as more retailers like Target's Roundel take their ad businesses in-house.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Michael Thurmond thought he was reading familiar history at the burial place of Georgia's colonial founder. The son of a sharecropper and great-grandson of a Georgia slave, Thurmond became an attorney and has served for decades in state and local government. Historians have widely agreed Oglethorpe and his fellow Georgia trustees didn’t ban slavery because it was cruel to Black people. Escaped slaves captured in Oglethorpe’s Georgia were returned to slaveholders. Thurmond's book openly embraces such evidence that Oglethorpe's history with slavery was at times contradictory and unflattering.

Governor of the Bank of Canada Tiff Macklem walks outside the Bank of Canada building in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada June 22, 2020. But Macklem also said "right now, it is not time to start thinking about cutting interest rates." Interest rate futures are pricing the first rate cut in March, earlier than the poll prediction. "Accompanying labour market weakness should put downward pressure on inflation and prompt the Bank of Canada to cut the policy rate around of the spring of 2024," they wrote. That was despite several government measures announced in the latest Fall Economic Statement to boost housing supply and help lenders dealing with homeowners at risk amid high interest rates.

In 2022, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft's Azure had a combined 70-80% share of Britain's public cloud infrastructure services market, Ofcom said. Such practices directly harmed customers, and were the only significant barrier to competition in Britain’s cloud computing market, the company said. "A lot of our software and cloud services interoperate, and can run on AWS or on Azure as well, so you're not restricted," he said. "If you don't fix this, eventually you will have fewer cloud providers, and then innovation will not really happen, and investments will start shrinking." Asked why Amazon, which boasts a larger share of the cloud market than Microsoft, did not pose a similarly anticompetitive risk, Zavery said AWS consumers were not facing the same restrictions.

UPS plans on hiring 100,000 seasonal workers to beef up its workforce for the holiday season. Working as a seasonal employee can be the first step toward a $170,000-per-year pay package. Thanks to a new contract for UPS workers that was negotiated by the Teamsters union, some full-time UPS drivers are now earning a pay package worth $170,000 a year, including benefits. Hourly pay will start at $23 for seasonal package drivers and $21 for package handlers. Despite increased pay for the seasonal UPS workers, the job market is still tight, and it's uncertain how challenging it will be to find workers, Lavery said.
