In other words, registered Democrats may vote only in the Democratic primary, and registered Republicans may vote only in the Republican primary. Unlike some other states, New Hampshire Republican delegates are not allocated by congressional district. DECISION NOTESTrump won a competitive New Hampshire primary in 2016 with 35% of the vote, more than double the showing of his nearest competitor, then-Ohio Gov. In the 2020 primaries, ballots cast before Election Day made up only 7% of Democratic primary votes and 4% of Republican primary votes. In the 2020 New Hampshire primary, the AP first reported results at 12:13 a.m.

Why Calvin Klein ads still get people talking

The strategy was classic Calvin Klein, a brand which has been synonymous with sexy, conversation-starting campaigns since the 1970s. Meanwhile, no one besides the ASA seems to be admonishing Calvin Klein over the FKA Twigs ads. For Calvin Klein, both sets of ads are an example of that old adage — there’s no such thing as bad publicity.

The acquisition allows Synopsys to expand the industries it targets. Photo: David Paul Morris/Bloomberg NewsSynopsys agreed to acquire Ansys for $35 billion of cash and stock in a deal that would expand the company’s reach in simulation software for designers of microchips, cars and airplanes. Synopsys is one of two big players, along with Cadence, in the software that chip designers use to lay out circuitry and test it prior to manufacturing. As chip-making advances and designers start to stack silicon wafers on top of each other, physics simulations like those Ansys provides have become increasingly important.

Asa Hutchinson was the governor of Arkansas for eight years and a U.S. congressman for four. Photo: Andrew Harnik/Associated PressFormer Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson dropped out of the 2024 Republican presidential primary following a poor showing at the Iowa caucuses. Hutchinson, who has said the Republican party needs to move past Donald Trump because of the criminal charges he faces and his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, failed to connect with GOP voters. He came in sixth in the Iowa caucuses, according to the Associated Press.

After an anemic showing in the Iowa caucuses, long-shot GOP presidential candidate Asa Hutchinson abandoned his bid for the presidential nomination Tuesday, saying he was “driving back to Arkansas” and suspending his campaign. And he angered GOP primary voters with his criticism of Trump. "Asa Hutchinson would have been a relevant and potentially competitive presidential candidate in the pre-MAGA era. In mid-November, Hutchinson crowed about making the Michigan GOP primary ballot, suggesting he was in it for the long haul. Hutchinson was one of the most outspoken GOP critics of Trump.

Launched in 2018, AP VoteCast is a comprehensive survey of both voters and nonvoters that aims to tell the story behind the election results. For example, in the 2020 presidential election, AP VoteCast results showed that white men favored Donald Trump, while women with college degrees favored Joe Biden. Prior to the launch of AP VoteCast in 2018, the AP worked with other major news organizations to conduct Election Day exit polls. AP VoteCast results from the Iowa GOP caucuses will be available Monday night on the AP's caucus results homepage. A detailed description of the methodology used in AP VoteCast is also available.

Traditionally, Iowa caucuses are squeakers, so close that Democrats failed to produce definitive results in the chaotic 2020 contest. Ms. Haley had 20 percent and Mr. DeSantis 16 percent — a separation at the edge of the survey’s margin of error. Ms. Haley, in the Times/Siena poll, had the support of just 3 percent of those voters. The Iowa caucuses, which are the opening contest in the months-long Republican presidential primary process, begin at 8 p.m. EST. Trump's political strength heading into the Iowa caucuses, which come 426 days after he launched his 2024 campaign, tells a remarkable story of a Republican Party unwilling or unable to move on from him. On the eve of the caucuses, Trump predicted he would set a modern-day record for an Iowa Republican caucus with a margin-of-victory exceeding the nearly 13 percentage points that Bob Dole earned in 1988. Last month, some presidential campaigns were expecting close to 200,000 Republican voters to participate in the caucus. Associated Press writers Jill Colvin in Des Moines, Iowa, and Adriana Gomez Licon in Council Bluffs, Iowa, contributed to this report.

Ron DeSantis, who had staked his campaign on a strong showing in Iowa, came in at a distant second, with 21.2% of the vote. “You helped us get a ticket pushed out of the Hawkeye State,” DeSantis told supporters in Iowa Monday night. And about two-thirds – 66% – of the GOP Iowa voters believe President Joe Biden did not legitimately win the presidency in 2020. The state also prides itself on giving a boost to lesser-known contenders who make the effort to meet one-on-one with Hawkeye State voters. It’s not clear how long DeSantis – who had hoped to win Iowa outright and gain momentum in the race – would be able to continue.

CNN —Iowa Republicans who are willing to brave record-low temperatures are set to kick off the party’s 2024 presidential nominating process with Monday night’s caucuses. Now, Iowa voters will render the first verdict of the 2024 election, weighing in on which Republican should take on President Joe Biden in November. Here are five things to watch in the Iowa caucuses:Will Trump top 50%? The Iowa caucuses have a history of paring down both parties’ fields of presidential contenders. Iowa will once again test whether any other Republican can break Trump’s hold on those voters, who have historically been a crucial bloc in the caucuses.

No surprise then, that Haley's presidential campaign website features a "Record of Results" tab with more than a dozen subtopics. The competitionTypically, a presidential campaign makes it as easy as possible for the public to learn what the candidate would do if elected. But a curious voter who visited Haley's campaign website would need to navigate through press clips and TV appearances to find one. CNBC reached out to Haley's campaign to ask why they do not have a comprehensive policy agenda on the campaign site. The link revealed something unexpected: The document did not appear under any of the sections into which Haley's campaign site was divided, like "News," or "About Nikki" or "Action Center."

Known for his hard-line stances against abortion and LGBTQ+ priorities, DeSantis could get a boost from an Iowa Republican electorate that is unusually socially conservative. But even those plum endorsements aren't moving Iowa Republicans from the Trump camp. "Donald Trump is a lap ahead of the field," says former Iowa Republican Party co-chairman David Oman, a former chief of staff to two GOP Iowa governors and a prominent Haley supporter. The morning after an anticipated Trump win in the Iowa caucuses, a trial starts in New York to determine a second set of damages in a defamation case brought by writer E. Jean Carroll. And while the GOP winner is all but assured in Iowa, the state has still played a key role in the primary process.

Who Qualified for the Fourth GOP Debate?

Republican candidates are gearing up for the fourth GOP presidential debate, with a shrinking field as the first nominating contest approaches. After raucous debates in Wisconsin, California and Florida, the candidates are set to return to the debate stage for a two-hour event at 8 p.m. To qualify for the fourth debate, a candidate must reach at least 6% support in two national polls or 6% in one national poll and one poll from an early state poll in Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada or South Carolina, according to rules set by the Republican National Committee. In addition to the polling and fundraising requirements, the candidates must also have taken a loyalty pledge in order to participate in the debate, which all candidates who appeared in the earlier debates completed. With that pledge, which has been somewhat controversial among the candidates, GOP presidential hopefuls must sign a statement that they will support the eventual Republican nominee.

CNN —Four candidates have qualified for the fourth GOP presidential primary debate taking place Wednesday night in Alabama, the Republican National Committee and debate broadcaster NewsNation announced Monday. Chris Christie will face off in Tuscaloosa in what will be the smallest debate stage lineup so far this year. To make the Tuscaloosa stage, candidates had to meet higher donor and polling criteria set by the Republican National Committee. None of their debate criteria relate to the qualifications related to actually doing the job of the president. Asa Hutchinson remains in the GOP race, though he has not qualified for any primary debates since his appearance at the first face-off in Milwaukee in August.

Iowa caucuses: Do they still matter?

On the Democratic side, Barack Obama won the Iowa caucuses in 2008 and went on to win the White House. And Trump, although he’s the favorite in pre-caucus polling this year, lost the Iowa caucuses in 2016 to Cruz. Weren’t there some problems with the Iowa caucuses? This is the first time since 1972 that the Iowa caucuses will not be the first event on Democrats’ presidential nomination calendar. President Joe Biden, who placed fourth in the 2020 Iowa caucuses, pushed Democrats to change up the calendar.
