To kick off the week, Harris' interview with Alex Cooper on the popular "Call Her Daddy" podcast is expected to air Sunday. The Trump campaign declined to do a "60 Minutes" interview after initially accepting the invitation, according to the network. On Tuesday, the Harris campaign will fly the vice president to New York for appearances on ABC's "The View," CBS' "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" and "The Howard Stern Show." Along with various appearances on Fox News, more friendly territory for the Republican nominee, Trump has interviewed on podcasts that are popular with young men like "This Past Weekend w/Theo Von" and the "Lex Fridman Podcast." Over the course of Harris' fast-tracked campaign, the vice president has sat for interviews with CNN, a panel from the National Association of Black Journalists, MSNBC and some local outlets.

The success of so many 2020 election deniers in Republican primaries this year demonstrates that Trump’s ongoing campaign of election lies continues to have a strong hold on his party. Even four years later, candidates’ views on the 2020 election are relevant in important practical ways. Lake also baselessly advocated the imprisonment of Katie Hobbs, who was Arizona’s election chief during the 2020 election and went on to defeat Lake in the 2022 race for governor. New York City Mayor Eric Adams speaks during a press conference at the City Hall, after it was revealed that he received a fresh round of federal grand jury subpoenas, New York City, U.S., August 16, 2024. New York City Mayor Eric Adams has been indicted on criminal charges in federal court in Manhattan, a source familiar with the matter told CNBC on Wednesday night. The indictment, which remains sealed for now, at least in part accuses Adams of criminal conduct related to donations to his 2021 mayoral campaign. Adams, a 64-year-old former police captain, is at least the second New York mayor to be criminally charged while still in office. If Adams resigns before his first term in office ends, he would be replaced by New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams as acting mayor.

The international poverty line, which the U.N. uses to measure global poverty, is very low. The international poverty line is valuable because it has succeeded in drawing the world’s attention to the extreme poverty of the world’s very poorest people. But to end poverty in all its forms everywhere, studying this poverty line alone is not enough. One way to see whether this higher poverty line is reasonable is to check whether it aligns with established national poverty assessments. For this, we need an appropriately ambitious poverty line that receives the same attention as the low international poverty line.

China's yuan rose to its strongest level in nearly 16 months on Friday on bets that Beijing will unveil fresh economic stimulus following a jumbo U.S. rate cut, though gains were capped by dollar buying from Chinese state banks. The onshore yuan strengthened to as much as 7.0420 per dollar, the firmest level since May 24, 2023, on track for a six-session rising streak. The Fed cut rates by a larger than usual 50-basis-points on Wednesday. On Friday, China's major state-owned banks were seen buying dollars in the onshore market to prevent the yuan from appreciating too fast. Prior to the market opening, the People's Bank of China set the midpoint rate at 7.0644 per dollar, its strongest in nearly 16 months.

Ryan Salame, the former co-chief executive of FTX Digital Markets, exits the Federal Court after sentencing in New York City, U.S., May 28, 2024. Former FTX executive Ryan Salame is back in court on Thursday, as Judge Lewis Kaplan looks for answers about the back-room dealings that led to Salame's criminal plea deal, which resulted in a 7.5-year prison sentence. Bond, who was previously a lawyer with the SEC, was indicted in August on campaign finance charges tied to her unsuccessful run for Congress in 2022. The four-count indictment against Bond was unsealed a day after Salame, the father of their nine-month-old child, asked Kaplan to void his plea. But Salame quickly reversed course, submitting a motion to the court within days to withdraw the petition to vacate his guilty verdict.

Wall Street relationshipsOne of Vance's earliest interactions with Wall Street came shortly after the November 2016 presidential election, when he headlined a lunch in New York to discuss his newly published memoir. John Underwood, a longtime managing director at Goldman Sachs, encouraged his allies to support and raise money for Vance's Senate campaign, according to people familiar with the matter. He told them the Trump campaign would need "hundreds of millions of dollars" to compete with Vice President Kamala Harris' fundraising surge. The Ohio Republican's opposition to Wall Street was on full display during the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee in July. "Wall Street barons crashed the economy and American builders went out of business," Vance said in his nomination acceptance speech.

Convicted former FTX executive Ryan Salame's domestic partner Michelle Bond has been indicted in New York on federal charges accusing her of conspiring to raise unlawful campaign contributions from FTX for her unsuccessful run for Congress in 2022, prosecutors announced Thursday. Salame and Bond met in June 2021, and were in a relationship by early the following year, according to the indictment. The indictment alleges that Salame, identified only as CC-1, conspired with Bond to commit the crimes, saying that Salame arranged the payment from FTX to Bond. She then allegedly used "almost entirely" all of that money "to fund her campaign illegally," the indictment says. Salame's lawyers claim prosecutors reneged on an agreement to drop their campaign finance probe of Bond as an incentive to get him to plead guilty.

Ryan Salame, former co-chief executive officer of FTX Digital Markets Ltd., exits federal court in New York, US, on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. Ryan Salame, a former top lieutenant at the failed cryptocurrency exchange FTX, asked a New York federal judge Wednesday to void his guilty plea to campaign finance and money-transmitting crimes, saying prosecutors are reneging on a key element of his plea agreement. Nicholas Biase, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office, declined to comment on Salame's filing. The charges against Salame stemmed from his involvement in a multi-million dollar campaign finance scheme during his tenure at FTX. Bankman-Fried was allegedly also deeply involved in the campaign finance scheme.

North Korea will resume international tourism this winter, ending a COVID-era ban on travelers, according to operators that organize tours to the country. This undated picture released by North Korea's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on November 28, 2016 shows North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un (C) standing among skiers in Samjiyun. The efforts could help North Korea with its economic recovery from the devastating impacts of the global pandemic. Lobster fishing is a game of inches, and the number of inches is about to change. Fishing regulators are instituting a new rule that lobster fishermen must abide by stricter minimum sizes for crustaceans they harvest. The changes do not apply in Canada, which has an even larger lobster fishing industry than the U.S. Some scientists who study the fishery have supported the minimum size change. In the three days since President Biden announced he was quitting the 2024 race, Mr. Trump has entered foreign territory. But within 24 hours, Democratic leaders unofficially crowned Ms. Harris and stamped out any notable opposition. His team considered mounting legal challenges to her campaign committee to make it harder for Ms. Harris to hit the ground running. Usually, after a financial crisis, people spend less money and fewer new businesses launch. Welcome to the age of the side hustle, where Americans are increasingly devoted to finding extra money to spend. Here's why so many people have side hustles right now, and why economists say they're probably here to stay. For roughly half of Americans with side hustles, the extra money isn't for fun: It's a necessity, driven by financial uncertainty. $250 per month is "by no means enough to live on, [but] it's a nice amount of money," Rossman says.
