BPA is an endocrine disruptor, meaning that it mimics or interferes with the body’s hormones. It governs weight management and your energy levels, not to mention your skin’s appearance and your ability to fend off illness. Others have tried to argue that some of the chemicals in clothing fell within the legal and regulatory limits. The signs that something is very, very wrong with our reproductive health and endocrine systems are myriad. After all, you might be undoing the benefits of hitting the gym every day when your workout clothes could be doing so much damage to your health.

Brazil offers tax advantages via e-commerce compliance program
  + stars: | 2023-06-30 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/IllustrationBRASILIA, June 30 (Reuters) - Brazil's Finance Ministry announced on Friday an exemption from federal taxes on e-commerce purchases up to $50 for companies participating in a new compliance program by the tax revenue service. The program, starting Aug. 1, offers faster and cheaper customs treatment for e-commerce companies that voluntarily meet criteria set by the government, the ministry's statement said. Under the program, e-commerce companies must also inform consumers about the product's origin and the merchandise's total value, including federal and state taxes - procedures that are currently optional. The program will essentially relieve the revenue service of such tasks when e-commerce firms participate. The government had previously attempted to end exemptions on all shipments as some companies imported products as individuals to avoid higher rates.

BRUSSELS, June 27 (Reuters) - Zalando (ZALG.DE), Europe's biggest online fashion retailer, on Tuesday sued the European Commission for putting it in the same category as Alphabet's (GOOGL.O) Google and Meta Platforms (META.O) regarding new and tough EU online content rules. Under rules known as the Digital Services Act (DSA) which came into force last year, Zalando was labelled a very large online platform (VLOP) because it has more than 45 million users. EU industry chief Thierry Breton in April labelled 19 online platforms and search engines including five Alphabet subsidiaries, two Meta units, two Microsoft (MSFT.O) businesses, Twitter, Alibaba's (9988.HK) AliExpress and Zalando as VLOPs. "The European Commission misinterpreted our user numbers and failed to acknowledge our mainly retail business model. The number of European visitors who connect with our Partners is far below the DSA's threshold to be considered as a VLOP," Zalando CEO Robert Gentz said in a statement.

REUTERS/Tingshu Wang/File PhotoPARIS, June 15 (Reuters) - Alibaba Group (9988.HK) will make Europe top priority as it focuses on building local businesses and online platforms outside China, the president of the e-commerce giant said on Thursday. "We have started with a pilot project in Spain which we will expand across Europe," he said. Its e-commerce business is to be split, with one side covering Alibaba's domestic-facing e-commerce marketplaces and the other its overseas e-commerce marketplaces such as Lazada, which serves Southeast Asia, and AliExpress. Taobao and TMall are China's dominant e-commerce marketplaces in China.

Michael Evans, President of Alibaba Group, said that the firm will bring its Tmall e-commerce site to Europe. Michael Evans, president of Alibaba, said the company will bring one of its China e-commerce services Tmall into Europe. In China, Tmall is an Alibaba site and app that has a big focus on selling foreign brands to Chinese consumers. Launching Tmall in Europe reflects a significant shift in strategy for Alibaba in its international e-commerce operations. However, Evans' suggestion is that Tmall in Europe would focus on selling local brands to local shoppers.

BRUSSELS, May 26 (Reuters) - Twitter cannot run away from its obligations even after quitting a voluntary EU code of practice to tackle disinformation, EU industry chief Thierry Breton warned the company late on Friday. Companies which signed up to the code are required to provide regular progress reports with data on how much advertising revenue they had averted from disinformation actors. "Twitter leaves EU voluntary code of practice against disinformation. You can run but you can't hide," Breton said in a tweet. Twitter, which no longer has a public relations department, responded to an emailed request for comment with a poop emoji.

The 19 companies include Alphabet's Google Maps, Google Play, Google Search, Google Shopping and YouTube, Meta's Facebook and Instagram, Amazon's (AMZN.O) Marketplace and Apple's App Store. The others are Microsoft's two units Linkedin and Bing, booking.com (BKNG.O), Pinterest (PINS.N), Snap Inc's (SNAP.N) Snapchat, TikTok, Twitter, Wikipedia, Zalando (ZALG.DE) and Alibaba's (9988.HK) AliExpress. "We consider these 19 online platforms and search engines have become systematically relevant and have special responsibilities to make the internet safer," Breton told reporters. Breton singled out Facebook's content moderation system for criticism because of its role in building opinions on key issues. So I look forward to an invitation to Bytedance's headquarters to understand better the origin of Tiktok," Breton said.
The European Commission, the executive arm of the EU, in late 2020 presented new legislation on how regulators should keep a closer eye on tech giants. Under this Digital Services Act (DSA), which was implemented four months ago, regulators are able to police content to reduce harmful comments and set rules for the use of artificial intelligence. European regulators have previously warned Elon Musk, CEO of Twitter, that his firm faces significant amounts of work to comply with the new rulebook. He added in a statement Tuesday: "The countdown is starting for 19 very large online platforms and search engines to fully comply with the special obligations that the Digital Services Act imposes on them." "The Digital Services Act is comprehensive and will be a challenge for online intermediaries to get their head around, with the largest players facing the biggest impact.

SAO PAULO, April 20 (Reuters) - Brazil's finance minister said on Thursday the country would implement a "digital tax" on shipments from e-commerce giants, after backtracking earlier this week from a decision to tax individual-to-individual shipments of up to $50. "We will follow the example of developed nations, a digital tax," Finance Minister Fernando Haddad told reporters. "Consumers will be exempt from any tax collection when they make the purchase, companies will collect it without passing on any additional cost." The source emphasized that the tax in question already exists and will be collected electronically prior to the shipment of goods. Alibaba Group's (9988.HK) AliExpress, Sea Ltd-owned (SE.N) Shopee and Shein were seen as the main targets of the measure.
SAO PAULO, April 20 (Reuters) - Brazil's finance minister said on Thursday the country would implement a new "digital tax" on shipments from e-commerce giants, after backtracking earlier this week from a decision to tax individual-to-individual shipments of up to $50. "We will follow the example of developed nations, a digital tax," Fernando Haddad told reporters. He had already announced the government would look for administrative means and implement heightened oversight to close a tax loophole that Asian e-commerce giants were seen taking advantage of. Alibaba Group's (9988.HK) AliExpress, Sea Ltd-owned (SE.N) Shopee and Shein were seen as the main targets of the measure. Haddad previously said AliExpress and Shopee had agreed with the tax proposal before the government reversed it.
Hackers said they bought sex toys with money a Russian war supporter was going to spend on drones. The Cyber Resistance group said on Telegram on Monday that it hacked Mikhail Luchin's AliExpress account, and used it to buy $25,000 worth of sex toys. It said the money was going to be spent on drones for the Russian army, according to Politico's translation. Luchin also said in a post that he will open a sex shop, make a 300% profit, and buy three times more drones. BRASILIA, April 3 (Reuters) - Brazil will soon unveil tax measures, including a crackdown targeting Asian e-commerce giants and curbs on some company tax benefits, as it looks to raise more than 100 billion reais ($20 billion), Finance Minister Fernando Haddad said on Monday. The e-commerce measures come in response to complaints from local retailers about unfair competition from Asian giants such as AliExpress, Shein, and Shopee. He later told journalists that combating the practice, which Haddad called "smuggling", should generate 7 billion reais to 8 billion reais in new revenue for the government. The most significant impact will come from the government's move to seek approval from the Federal Supreme Court to disallow companies from receiving tax breaks from states on operating expenses, which result in them paying less federal tax. The tax reform proposal should be voted in the Lower House by July and in the Senate by October, Haddad said.
