KHAN YOUNIS, Gaza Strip (AP) — Israeli airstrikes pounded locations across the Gaza Strip early Thursday, including parts of the south that Israel had declared safe zones, heightening fears among more than 2 million Palestinians trapped in the territory that nowhere was safe. Hamas officials in Gaza blamed an Israeli airstrike, saying hundreds were killed. Airstrikes also hit three residential towers in al-Zahra, within the area that was told to evacuate, the Interior Ministry in Gaza said. Egypt must still repair the road across the border, which was cratered by Israeli airstrikes. He also announced $100 million in humanitarian aid for Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.

It said in a statement that Israel was taking this decision after a request from Biden, but added that Israel would continue the blockade of humanitarian aid from Israel into Gaza "as long as our hostages are not returned". "Any supplies that reach Hamas – will be prevented," it said. Israel has told people in Gaza to move from the north to the south for their own safety during the conflict. Two of the sources said the aid deliveries were now waiting for the Gaza side of the border to open and for assurances of safe passage before entering the crossing. This concern, along with fears that aid would be used as cover for weapons, had hindered a planned delivery on Monday, two Egyptian security sources said. An understanding was reached that the aid would be delivered to specific secure locations in Gaza under monitoring, the Egyptian security sources said, in exchange for limited evacuations of foreign passport holders. Another security source said Egypt had repaired the roads within the crossing that had been damaged by Israeli strikes.

KHAN YOUNIS, Gaza Strip (AP) — A massive blast rocked a Gaza City hospital packed with wounded and other Palestinians seeking shelter Tuesday, killing hundreds of people, the Hamas-run Health Ministry said. Hamas blamed an Israeli airstrike, while the Israeli military said the hospital was hit by a rocket misfired by Palestinian militants. Hamas' Oct. 7, attack in southern Israel killed more than 1,400 people, mostly civilians, and took some 200 captive into Gaza. In Gaza City, Israeli airstrikes also hit the house of Hamas’ top political official, Ismail Haniyeh, killing at least 14 people. Haniyeh is based in Doha, Qatar, but his family lives in Gaza City.

The decision to halt exports via the East Mediterranean Gas (EMG) pipeline came as fighting has intensified between Israel and militants in the Gaza Strip. The 90-kilometer pipeline is the main link between the Chevron-operated Leviathan offshore gas field and Egypt. Israel's energy ministry confirmed in a statement to Reuters that Chevron had requested to export gas through an alternative pipeline that links Leviathan to Jordan as well as Egypt, known as the Arab Gas Pipeline.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Israeli military revised a recommendation by one of its spokespeople that Palestinians fleeing its air strikes in Gaza head to Egypt. Gaza's Hamas-run Interior Ministry said bombardments on both Monday and Tuesday had hit an entry gate on the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing. On Monday, about 800 people left Gaza through the Rafah crossing and about 500 people entered, though the crossing was closed for the movement of goods, according to the United Nations humanitarian office. So far, there has been no sign of mass gatherings of Palestinians at the Rafah crossing, with only planned departures proceeding until Tuesday.

On Tuesday, the Israeli military revised a recommendation by one of its spokespeople that Palestinians fleeing its air strikes in Gaza head to Egypt. Gaza's Hamas-run Interior Ministry said bombardments on both Monday and Tuesday had hit an entry gate on the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing. "O explozie s-a produs joi seară la gazoductul principal care alimentează oraşul Al-Arish, în zona Sabika, la vest" de capitala provinciei Sinaiul de Nord, a precizat sursa.Explozia nu a făcut victime şi "nu va afecta aprovizionarea oraşului cu gaz", a afirmat într-un comunicat guvernatorul provinciei Sinaiul de Nord, Mohamed Abdel Fadil Shousha.Cauzele exploziei urmează să fie stabilite.Martori au declarat pentru AFP că fumul şi flăcările erau vizibile la 30 de kilometri depărtare de Al-Arish.Pe de altă parte, forţele de securitate au fost aduse pentru operaţiuni de curăţare a zonei şi a fost deschisă o anchetă, potrivit comunicatului.În februarie, organizaţia jihadistă Stat Islamic (SI), foarte activă în Peninsula Sinai, a revendicat un atentat împotriva unui gazoduct la 80 de kilometri est de Al-Arish.Atacurile s-au înmulţit după destituirea în 2013 preşedintelui islamist egiptean Mohamed Morsi de către armată.Cu începere din februarie 2018, autorităţile efectuează o operaţiune pe întreg teritoriul Egiptului împotriva militanţilor islamişti, axată în principal în nordul Peninsulei Sinai şi deşertul occidental, scrie agerpres.ro.
