watch nowIn his campaign's TV ads, Pennsylvania Republican House candidate Rob Bresnahan talks about being a third-generation union contractor. It's not surprising for a candidate in northeastern Pennsylvania to trumpet their union ties. Support from unions is critical in Pennsylvania, where union members make up 14.1% of the state, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. SCRANTON, PENNSYLVANIA - OCTOBER 09: Rob Bresnahan, Republican nominee for Pennsylvania's 8th Congressional District, takes the stage during a Republican presidential nominee, former U.S. President Donald Trump campaign rally at Riverfront Sports on October 09, 2024 in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Jorge Argota, 35, runs his own digital marketing agency in Miami and made about $120,000 last year. For me, renting an apartment in Miami is more affordable than buying a nice house with a $3,000 or $4,000 mortgage. Argota and his brother pay $2,300 a month for a two-bedroom in this Miami apartment complex. I've also had many friends who have had to move further north in Florida because it's impossible for them to pay rent or buy a home in Miami. So, if I can't buy a house in Miami, I might consider moving to another state.

Some of the ads feature doctors speaking passionately about abortion and saying that Republican candidates shouldn't represent "us" or "our" communities in Congress. But in at least four instances, House Majority PAC, a super PAC aligned with House Democratic leadership, featured Republican-blasting doctors in their ads who did not live in the district where they were advertising. The path to the House majority runs through all four of the districts where these ads ran. Since then, both doctors and patients have often become key personal messengers on abortion for Democrats. But Republicans blasted House Majority PAC over the ads, calling them misleading and accusing the group of spreading falsehoods about GOP incumbents and candidates.

In Tuesday's 9th inning of the Padres-Astros game, Altuve appeared to foul a ball off his left foot. However, umpires ruled the ball never hit his foot and Altuve was subsequently thrown out at first base. The Padres and Astros each had costly wild pitches, great defensive plays, clutch hits and plenty of frustration with the umpires. Replays seemed to show the ball missed Profar, Profar appeared to be upset that he wouldn’t have the chance to bat and the Astros bench couldn’t believe the call. As the umpires walked off the field, there was plenty of chirping and chatter directed at them by both teams.

US President Joe Biden speaks about student loan debt relief at Madison Area Technical College in Madison, Wisconsin, April 8, 2024. WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Wednesday rebuffed a Biden administration plea seeking to revive the latest plan to tackle federal student loan debt. The court in a brief order denied an emergency request filed by the administration seeking to lift a nationwide injunction imposed by an appeals court. The Education Department issued a regulation finalizing its Saving on a Valuable Education, or SAVE, plan in July 2023, the month after the Supreme Court ruled the administration lacked authority to implement Biden's earlier loan forgiveness program. They say it should be blocked for the same reason that the Supreme Court blocked Biden's earlier plan.

CNN —Esteban Wood still remembers the time a 74-year-old Mexican farmer in Homestead, Florida, collapsed on the job from extreme heat. Such outdoor workers include lifeguards, transportation employees, ironworkers, agricultural workers and letter carriers. States like California, Colorado, Minnesota and Washington, have some heat protections for workers but they are not uniform or sweeping. For example, Minnesota’s protections only apply to indoor workers while California’s heat protections include both indoor and outdoor workers. The government must implement wage protections alongside heat protections, said Dr. Kristina Dahl, a principal climate scientist at the Union of Concerned Scientists.

The 8th Circuit officially blocked the SAVE student-loan repayment plan in its entirety. It replaces its temporary stay on the plan from July, which paused cheaper payments and debt relief. Enrolled borrowers will likely be in limbo for long as the legal process progresses. AdvertisementThe legal roller coaster for millions of student-loan borrowers continues. Washington CNN —A federal appeals court delivered on Friday another blow to President Joe Biden’s student loan repayment plan, siding with Republican-led states that asked it to block further implementation of the plan until their challenge to it is resolved. Those borrowers have been placed in an interest-free forbearance during which they are not required to make monthly student loan payments. The high court is already considering a separate request from the administration stemming from another challenge to the plan. SAVE is one of the Biden-Harris administration’s key student loan policies.
