Paul Tazewell was 16 years old and living in Akron, Ohio, the first time he designed costumes for “The Wiz.” It was a high school production, and much of the work happened in his family’s dining room. He has been summoned back to Oz several times since that first show — a workshop here, an NBC broadcast there. So when the director Jon M. Chu asked him to design the costumes for Universal’s long-awaited film adaptation of the Broadway musical “Wicked,” there was little learning curve to speak of. A prequel of sorts to “The Wizard of Oz,” “Wicked” centers on two reluctant roommates at Shiz University: Galinda, an effervescent daughter of privilege who goes on to drop a vowel (that first “a”), and Elphaba, a green-skinned outcast who goes on to pick up a title (the Wicked Witch of the West).

CNN —Thanksgiving dinner will cost less this year than last but will still be 19% higher than before the pandemic, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation’s annual Thanksgiving survey out Wednesday. The average cost of this year’s dinner for 10 people is $58.08, or about $5.80 per person, the survey found. The center piece of the Thanksgiving meal, the turkey, helped bring down the overall cost. But items like cubed stuffing and dinner rolls both increased by 8% because of higher labor costs, the AFBF said. The cost of the Thanksgiving dinner items varies based on location, the survey found.

Simply put, the leading maker of AI chips again fell victim to the curse of high expectations. Through its Nvidia AI Enterprise service, Nvidia is in the process of building out a potentially massive software business. Now, as we start this next generation, we'll be seeing models run on 100,000 Blackwell chips — and scaling is still in effect. SpaceX launched the sixth test flight of its Starship rocket on Tuesday, as the company looks to keep up momentum of the mammoth vehicle’s development. Pushing the envelopeSpaceX has flown the full Starship rocket system on six spaceflight tests so far since April 2023, at a steadily increasing cadence. The company said on its website that it made hardware upgrades to the rocket’s booster for improved redundancy and improved structural strength. The Starship system is designed to be fully reusable and aims to become a new method of flying cargo and people beyond Earth. Fully stacked on the Super Heavy booster, Starship stands 397 feet tall and is about 30 feet in diameter.

The surgeon general’s 837-page report on tobacco use found that 37.8% of gay, lesbian and bisexual U.S. adults have tried electronic cigarettes, compared with just 16.5% of their straight counterparts. He said that LGBTQ people use tobacco products at higher rates largely because of “long-standing stigma” within health care settings. Still, 36 million U.S. adults and 760,000 middle and high school students smoke tobacco products, according to the report. Since 2014, the most commonly used tobacco product among U.S. youths and young adults is e-cigarettes. “These and other noncombustible tobacco products such as nicotine pouches have the potential to undermine overall progress in preventing and reducing young people’s use of tobacco products,” the authors stated.

Marc Rowan, the billionaire CEO of Apollo Global Management, gave $1 million to Right for America, a pro-Trump super PAC. The super PAC also ran a controversial program that gave away $1 million checks to swing-state voters who signed Musk's petition. (His father, Charles Kushner, who was pardoned by Trump, gave that same amount, plus another $1.2 million to a pro-Trump super PAC).
