Amazon on Wednesday announced a new Kindle e-reader, and for the first time ever it has a color display. The retailing giant introduced the Kindle in 2007, and every device since then has had a black-and-white screen. The new Kindle has a display that's designed to ensure colors don't appear washed out or pixelated, even when users zoom in on images. The $279 device, which Amazon is calling the Kindle Colorsoft, has "weeks of battery life," the company said. Amazon also unveiled a refreshed $399 Kindle Scribe with new note-taking features, an updated $159 Kindle Paperwhite and a 12th generation Kindle, which costs $109.

Alejandro Arredondo, an architect born in Mexico, is among the few who will ever get to work on the Notre Dame in Paris, France, since its construction nine centuries ago. Nearly 6,000 miles from his native homeland, Arredondo is the only Latino working on the restoration of the 860-year-old gothic cathedral. Three months into the job the unimaginable happened: The Notre Dame cathedral was engulfed in flames. The Notre Dame continued to top the lists of most visited monuments in Europe even after it’s closure following the catastrophic fire back in 2019. “I took that element to show that we are capable of doing great things,” said Arredondo.

BOSTON — Luis Tiant, the charismatic Cuban with a horseshoe mustache and mesmerizing windup who pitched the Red Sox to the brink of a World Series championship and himself to the doorstep of the Hall of Fame, has died. Major League Baseball announced his death in a post on X on Tuesday, and the Red Sox confirmed that he died at his home in Maine. He had 187 complete games and 47 shutouts in a 19-year career spent mostly with Cleveland and Boston. His death comes one week after that of all-time baseball hits leader Pete Rose, whose Cincinnati Reds faced Tiant’s Red Sox in the 1975 World Series — still considered one of the greatest in baseball history. After his retirement, Tiant was inducted into the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame but never made the national shrine in Cooperstown, New York, receiving a high of 30.9% of the votes in 1988, his first year on the ballot.

CNN —September’s jobs report, due out Friday morning, is expected to show that the US labor market has slowed somewhat but remains on solid footing. While September’s employment data is expected to stay relatively tame, the same can’t be said for the October jobs report, which is set to be released on November 1, just days before the presidential election. CNN —Sean “Diddy” Combs has been accused of drugging and sexually assaulting a woman in another civil lawsuit, marking at least the 12th misconduct lawsuit he’s faced in as many months. “At every visit, Defendant Combs would make her ‘perform a show’ for him and would ply her with alcohol and substances until she passed out,” the suit states. In July 2024, according to the complaint, Combs “commanded” Jane Doe to his home in Miami, Florida, and “shoved two pills in Jane Doe’s mouth” upon her arrival. The complaint states Doe feared for her safety after witnessing Combs physically abuse other women. Combs has been accused in about a dozen civil lawsuits of alleged sexual misconduct and other illegal activity.
