The discovery is another example of how observations by Webb, which was launched in 2021 and began collecting data last year, are transforming our knowledge of the nature of the early universe. The orbiting infrared observatory was designed to be far more sensitive than its Hubble Space Telescope predecessor. This galaxy, Kelly said, is "absolutely tiny" in relative terms. "Nonetheless, we found that it was forming about two stars each year, which is similar to the rate at which the Milky Way is forming stars," Kelly added. "The combined power of the James Webb Space Telescope and the galaxy's magnification due to gravitational lensing allows us to study this galaxy in detail," Williams said.

Houston had its modern-day record of 10 consecutive Opening Day wins snapped. Orioles 10, Red Sox 9Adley Rutschman's 5-for-5 Opening Day helped Baltimore to a win over host Boston. Mets 5, Marlins 3Brandon Nimmo's three RBIs backed Max Scherzer's quality start, leading New York to an Opening Day victory over Miami. Twins 2, Royals 0Pablo Lopez and four relievers combined on an Opening Day two-hitter as visiting Minnesota blanked Kansas City. It was O'Neill's fourth consecutive Opening Day with a homer, tying a major league record.
NASA's James Webb Space Telescope captured a star getting ready to die in stunning detail. The image shows a rare Wolf-Rayet star, expelling its outer layers in the phase before a supernova. A Wolf-Rayet star is "among the most luminous, most massive, and most briefly-detectable stars known," according to NASA. Banks on wheels are an attempt to repair the gaps within the U.S. banking landscape, which disproportionately impact Black and Hispanic communities. Banks on wheels aim to offer at least a partial solution to the increasingly deserted banking landscapes in minority communities. BankonBuffalo's mobile branch is an attempt to bridge those access gaps. Bank deserts are any areas where there are no bank branches within 10 miles of its center, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The borough currently has 123 bank branches, according to a national bank branch location database, down from 144 in 2018.
The James Webb Space Telescope can capture a more complete view of galaxies, stars, and planets. Before Webb, astronomers had another workhorse cosmic observatory: the Hubble Space Telescope. Webb is 100 times stronger than Hubble, which allows astronomers to peer even further into space. CNN —The James Webb Space Telescope has spied clouds on one of the solar system’s most intriguing moons. Titan’s atmosphere is made of nitrogen and methane, which gives it a fuzzy, orange appearance. Astronomers compared Webb (left) and Keck images of Titan to see how clouds evolved. The data, which is still being analyzed, was able to see deeper into Titan’s atmosphere and surface than the Cassini spacecraft, which orbited Saturn and its moons for 13 years. The cloud observations were a long time coming.
CNN —Despite numerous calls from astronomers to rename its powerful new telescope, NASA officials stood by the naming of the James Webb Space Telescope before its launch. With the telescope nearly a year into its stint in space, the agency has released its chief historian’s investigation into the namesake of the telescope. Earlier this summer, Dr. Jane Rigby, the operations project scientist for the James Webb Space Telescope, tweeted that “a transformative telescope should have a name that stands for discovery and inclusion.”Officials at NASA have refused to rename it, though, citing an investigation into Webb’s career. NASA's James Webb Space Telescope is 100 times stronger than the Hubble Space Telescope. Hubble showed astronomers a single galaxy in the early universe, but JWST revealed it was two mysterious objects. Dan Coe, a researcher with the Space Telescope Science Institute, first discovered it 10 years ago with the Hubble Space Telescope, which was previously NASA's most powerful space observatory. Kyle Farmer snapped an 0-for-18 skid with a bloop two-run single in Cincinnati's three-run fifth that made a winner of starter Chase Anderson (2-3). Leody Taveras provided some insurance with a two-run single in the eighth inning, and the Rangers bounced back after losing the series opener on Tuesday.
Astronomers released a new image of the Orion Nebula on Monday from the James Webb Space Telescope. "We are blown away by the breathtaking images of the Orion Nebula. The Orion Nebula is a massive star-forming region 1,350 light-years from Earth, making it the nearest stellar nursery to us. Webb spots previously hidden star-forming threadsHubble's image, left, and Webb's image, right of the Orion Nebula. The Orion Nebula is similar to the environment our solar system was born in, Habart added, so studying it could be key to understanding our solar system.
In the 19th and early 20th centuries, astronomers catalogued the universe on glass photographic plates. Compared to faint objects stamped on plates, the James Webb Space Telescope's images show dramatic improvements in telescope technology. The exposures were made on glass plates coated with photosensitive emulsions, with astronomers later developing the plates like film in a darkroom. Compared with Webb's infrared images, photographic plates of the same parts of the night sky show how developments in technology led to clearer and deeper views of the cosmos. Astronomers took a new image of the Tarantula Nebula with the James Webb Space Telescope. Webb's instruments captured thousands of never-before-seen young stars, shrouded in cosmic dust. The space around the young stars is where gas has been cleared out by the stars' intense radiation and stellar winds. A side-by-side display of the same region of the Tarantula Nebula shows the difference between Webb's Near-Infrared Camera, left, and Webb's Mid-Infrared Instrument, right. Astronomers believe the Tarantula Nebula belongs to our universe's distant past.
