After a big week for stocks related to artificial intelligence, CNBC's Jim Cramer told investors it may be time to ring the register for many of these companies that have seen massive gains. "Remember, this remarkable, albeit limited, narrow, year — you don't want to spoil it by refusing to ring the register on every one of your stocks that may be AI." Cramer reviewed the significant surges in the AI sector this week, starting with Apple's record-breaking run after the company announced new AI programming that could boost iPhone sales. "We know we've been feeling a little greedy, and it's quite unbecoming — when you have big gains, you need to take something off the table," Cramer said. "I am still a true believer in Nvidia, but I don't want to be oblivious to the scale of this massive run."

While most of the S & P 500 has reported first quarter earnings, three notable names — where the options trade quite actively — have yet to report. Signs of improvement in this area showed up with their last earnings report on March 11th. The stock was flat when they reported earnings in June of 2023, but it fell double digits when they reported in September and December last year. These days, this may happen when a big tech company invests in an AI startup, and then that startup buys cloud and AI services from the big tech company. These arrangements are called "round tripping" because the money invested comes right back in the form of cloud spending. When Amazon Web Services invested $4 billion in Anthropic, the AI startup agreed to use AWS as its "primary cloud provider." In recent years, cloud spending growth has slowed as some customers try to save money in the midst of a lackluster economy with high inflation. An Amazon spokesperson declined to say whether AWS revenue numbers include cloud spending by Anthropic or not.

That was the promise of Cerner, the medical-records company Oracle bought in 2021 for $28.3 billion — Oracle's biggest acquisition. At the time, Cerner managed the electronic health records for a quarter of all American hospitals, including those run by the Pentagon and the Department of Veterans Affairs. Larry EllisonCerner's electronic records, in short, were a deadly disaster for the VA. Never mind the futuristic, AI-driven healthcare system Ellison envisioned. In 2015, it beat out Epic, its main competitor, for a $4.3 billion contract to handle electronic health records for the Defense Department. It had agreed to process tens of millions of crucial medical records, but it couldn't handle the subsequent deluge of data.

Epic Systems, the largest provider of software for managing medical records, says a venture-backed startup called Particle Health is using patient data in unauthorized and unethical ways that have nothing to do with treatment. Epic told customers in a notice on Thursday that it cut off its connection to Particle, hindering the company's ability to tap a system with more than 300 million patient records. Particle is one of several companies that acts as a sort of middleman between Epic and the organizations — typically hospitals and clinics — that need the data. Patient data is inherently sensitive and valuable, and it's protected by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, or HIPAA, a federal law that requires a patient's consent or knowledge for third-party access. To join the network, organizations are vetted and have to agree to abide by clear "Permitted Purposes" for the exchange of patient data.

Oracle, which works with Nvidia and Microsoft on generative AI capabilities, has already helped use cloud tech to cut red tape for countries. For the first time, we're beginning to win business for countries," Ellison said. Countries including Serbia are standardizing on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and using generative AI for processes like automating health care. Cloud and generative AI applications allowing countries to give rural areas internet access could increase educational opportunities and create more economic value.
