BOSTON (AP) — The family of a 14-year-old girl who allegedly discovered a phone taped to the back of a toilet seat on a recent flight from Charlotte, North Carolina, to Boston said they believe she was targeted by a member of the crew. During the Sept. 2 American Airlines flight 1441, the girl was told by a male member of the crew to use the first-class bathroom. After using the toilet, the girl realized that a largely obscured iPhone had been affixed to the back of the toilet seat, apparently to record her. “These events have left our daughter — and entire family — shocked and profoundly disturbed,” the family wrote in a statement. Massachusetts State Police escorted a flight attendant off the flight.

House Republicans are proposing cutting funding for Federal Student Aid by $265 million. Last week, Republicans on the House Appropriations Committee released a series of bills for funding federal agencies through fiscal year 2024. "Right now, House Republicans are pursuing an appropriations bill that cuts $22.5 BILLION from education," Education Secretary Miguel Cardona wrote on Twitter. New York CNN —More major cities in the United States are letting public transit riders hop on board for free. Boston is piloting three zero-fare public bus routes, and New York City is expected to test free buses on five lines. Fares made up, on average, 12.5% of transit agencies’ operating expenses in 2021, down from 31.4% in 2019, according to the American Public Transit Association. “By offering free public transport, we are not really attracting car drivers in large volumes,” said Mohamed Mezghani, secretary general of the International Association of Public Transport. “There’s no such thing as free transit,” he added.

CNN —Salvatore Del Deo is a 94-year-old artist and Korean War Veteran who has made a dune shack in Provincetown, Massachusetts, his part-time home for the past 77 years. Salvatore received an eviction notice from the National Park Service in March. Frenchie's Shack Tatianna Del DeoThe eviction notice came as a shock to the Del Deo family, said Romolo Del Deo, Salvatore’s son. Dune shacks for leaseThe eviction notice came shortly before the National Park Service announced a leasing program for eight other dune shacks.
