A man wanted in connection to the slaying of a New York City woman at a chic Hamptons resort was found dead in Pennsylvania, police said Wednesday. Gannon "was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his home" in Honesdale, Pennsylvania, about 200 miles from the murder scene, according to a Suffolk County Police Department statement. "We are not confirming the relationship, but we can say it was domestic in nature," a Suffolk County police spokesperson said. A representative for Shou Sugi Ban House could not immediately be reached for comment on Wednesday. A California judge on Tuesday sentenced David DePape, the man who broke into former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s home and attacked her husband with a hammer, to life behind bars without the possibility of parole. DePape had previously been sentenced to 30 years in prison for federal crimes connected to the Oct. 28, 2022, attack in the upscale Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco. San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said DePape is "now being held accountable" for acts that are a "danger to democracy." "Mr. DePape has been convicted of crimes both federally and locally reflecting the public's unanimous condemnation," Jenkins said in statement after Tuesday's sentencing. "Recognizing the seriousness of his crimes and the danger to democracy that Mr. DePape posed he is now being held accountable and will spend the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole."

Four suspects were arrested and charged in connection to the home invasion slaying of a New Jersey detective earlier this month, prosecutors said Tuesday. "Detective Monica Mosley was a dedicated public servant who devoted her life to protecting the community," according to the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office. Cyndia E. Pimentel, a 38-year-old from Paulsboro, was arrested and accused of hindering an investigation, obstruction of justice and tampering with evidence. “This is a significant step toward justice for Detective Sergeant Monica Mosley and her family,” Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. China began holding military drills in areas surrounding Taiwan on Monday, days after Beijing accused the self-governing island’s president of promoting independence in a National Day address. China said its army, navy, air force, rocket force and other forces were taking part in the drills to test their ability to fight alongside each other, and to send a warning to Taiwan, which Beijing claims as its territory. It did not say when the exercises would conclude. “This is a powerful deterrent against the separatist activities of ‘Taiwan independence’ forces and a legitimate and necessary action to defend national sovereignty and maintain national unity,” said Senior Col. Li Xi, a spokesman for the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Eastern Theater Command, which oversees an area including Taiwan, according to state media. The prospect of installing a new roof atop Tropicana Field comes at a difficult time for local governments, which are already committed to building a new Rays stadium in time for the 2028 season. So whatever investment is put into Tropicana Field now would be used by the Rays for only three more seasons. A rep for the company that installed the stadium’s roof, Geiger Engineers, did not return messages from NBC News seeking comment Thursday. That roof was “well past its intended service life,” Geiger Engineers principal David Campbell told the newspaper. Tropicana Field opened to the public in 1990 and still had its original roof.

A Hurricane Milton tornado tore through a Florida retirement community Wednesday, killing multiple residents and leaving a level of destruction not seen locally for decades, officials said. Four people died in St. Lucie County, on Florida’s east coast, and more than one of those fatalities came at the Spanish Lakes Country Club Village, a neighborhood designed for residents 55 and older, county spokesman Erick Gill said. “I can’t confirm that all of them [the four deaths] were from the Spanish Lakes neighborhood that was hardest hit,” Gill told NBC News. “I’ve worked for St. Lucie County for 21 years. “We’re not going to stop until we double-check, triple-check to make sure that anyone in there that needs to be rescued is rescued,” St. Lucie County Sheriff Keith Pearson said in a video message to the community.

A Turkish Airlines pilot died mid-flight, forcing the co-pilot into an emergency landing in New York City on Wednesday morning, authorities said. Florida authorities issued dire warnings Tuesday to residents in Hurricane Milton's path, telling them "time is running out" to flee the potentially historic storm that's set make landfall in a day's time. An Illinois woman manipulated her cheating boyfriend to believe he was being threatened by violent drug runners, leading him to slaughter a family of four before killing that tech-savvy girlfriend and himself, police said Thursday.
