The sanctions are being enacted under China's Anti-Foreign Sanctions Law, ministry spokesperson Mao Ning told a regular press briefing. Mao named Lockheed Martin Corp's branch in Missouri as the prime contractor that was directly involved in an arms sale to Taiwan on Aug. 24 and said Northrop Grumman has repeatedly participated in the sale of weapons to Taiwan. The deal to buy Collins' actuation and flights controls business marks the French engine and aircraft equipment maker's biggest acquisition since the 2018 purchase of seat maker Zodiac. "We are going to move towards more electrical actuation and flight controls," Safran's Chief Executive Officer Olivier Andries said. Collins Aerospace, part of U.S. aerospace and defence giant Raytheon Technologies, recently renamed RTX (RTX.N), said the sale would "optimize resources". Safran said its all-cash offer gave the business it is acquiring an enterprise value of $1.8 billion. REUTERS/Benoit Tessier/File PhotoWASHINGTON, June 29 (Reuters) - Spirit AeroSystems (SPR.N) said it would begin resuming operations at its plant in Wichita, Kansas, on Friday, after union workers on Thursday voted to accept a new contract and end a strike that led to a week-long work stoppage. The deal is a boon for Boeing, which is on the verge of increasing MAX production from 31 jets to 38 jets per month. LONDON, June 19 (Reuters) - Britain's main manufacturing trade body Make UK revised up its outlook for this year on Monday thanks to strong demand for aircraft and electronics, but said it still expects production to fall over the year as a whole. Make UK said it expected factory output to fall 0.3% this year compared with a 3.3% contraction expected three months earlier, and kept unchanged its forecast for 0.8% growth in 2024. "Manufacturers are seeing a gradually improving picture, but the word 'gradually' is doing a lot of heavy lifting," said James Brougham, senior economist at Make UK. Aerospace had been boosted by a resumption of travel and aircraft orders after the COVID-19 pandemic, while demand for electronics partly reflected businesses' desire to counter labour shortages. Supply-chain pressures remain an issue for medium-sized firms, said Richard Austin, head of manufacturing at accountants BDO, who sponsored the survey of Make UK members.

Investors looking to trade the showdown over the U.S. debt ceiling should focus on stocks that are tied most to government spending, according to Citigroup. Lawmakers have been trying to find a way to raise the debt ceiling so the government can pay its bills on time. March 24 (Reuters) - Financial sector headwinds are creating fresh openings for private equity investments in aerospace, as suppliers' need for capital to meet soaring demand for planes and parts risks further turbulence, executives said. He said he would not oppose a private equity investment, as long as he maintains control and the combination makes sense by lowering costs. Global private equity deals among companies with aerospace portfolios rose to 216 in 2022, more than double 2019's figure and the highest in over a decade, according to Refinitiv data. Permanent Equity wants to invest in repair stations and suppliers with large inventories of aerospace parts. On Tuesday, Boeing announced orders for 78 Dreamliners, split between state-owned Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia) and new national airline Riyadh Air. The $37 billion sale, which Boeing called its fifth-largest commercial order by value, followed a deal with United Airlines (UAL.O) in December for 100 Dreamliners and a purchase by Air India that included 20 787s. Planemakers are also grappling with the after-effects of the pandemic, which forced waves of layoffs and retirements of skilled workers. While Airbus outsold Boeing in the Air India deal, landing orders for 40 A350 widebodys, the U.S. planemaker swept both the United Airlines and Saudi orders. “Saudi Airlines is a government-owned airline, and so there are politics involved with this,” analyst Stallard said.

U.S. FAA, NTSB probe new airline runway incident

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are investigating a string of recent runway incursions that have attracted national attention. The FAA said the American Airlines flight crew discontinued the landing after the controller advised that the Air Canada aircraft was departing. The aircraft were about 3,100 feet (945 meters) apart when the American Airlines jet began its climb-out, the FAA said. The FAA will hold a March 15 safety summit and is forming a team of experts to review airline safety after several recent near-miss incidents. The FedEx plane had been set to land on a runway on which a Southwest Airlines jet was also cleared to depart.

CNN —Citing a series of recent aviation safety incidents, the head of the Federal Aviation Administration has ordered a sweeping review of the agency. “We are experiencing the safest period in aviation history, but we cannot take this for granted,” Billy Nolen, the acting FAA administrator, wrote in a memo. One focus of the safety review team will be determining “whether there are other incidents that resemble ones we have seen in recent weeks.” It will also look at ways to better integrate the FAA’s air traffic control arm into the agency’s broader safety efforts. The review will include participants from the industries that are regulated and served by the FAA, Nolen wrote. “We know that our aviation system is changing dramatically.
The flurry of unidentified objects that have been shot down over North America this month could bring yet another boost to aerospace and defense stocks, but investors looking to use ETFs should be aware of some key differences between the largest funds. The biggest fund on the market is the iShares U.S. Aerospace & Defense ETF (ITA) , with about $5 billion in assets under management. Another market-cap weighted fund is the Invesco Aerospace & Defense ETF (PPA) . The third fund on the market is the SPDR S & P Aerospace & Defense ETF (XAR) .
