CNN —Tiger Woods returned to competitive golf on Thursday at the Hero World Challenge in Albany, the Bahamas. “I was rusty, I didn’t have my feels,” Woods told the Golf Channel broadcast after the round. On Tuesday, Woods told reporters his goal for next year is to play once per month. “I think the best scenario would be maybe a tournament a month,” Woods said. “I think that’s realistic, whether that’s – you would have to start with maybe at Genesis (the Genesis Invitational in February) and something in March, near the Players (Championship).

NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) — Tiger Woods held up just fine Thursday in his first time competing in eight months, except for limping at the end. But this day was all about Woods, as it usually is whenever he plays, and especially when he has been away for so long. Political Cartoons View All 1274 Images“I didn't have my feels,” Woods said. He punched his third shot back to the fairway and then came up about 40 yards short of the green. Woods attributed his mistakes to a lack of commitment, that coming from a lack of playing.

CNN —Tiger Woods says he’s only prepared to walk away from playing golf when he no longer believes he can be competitive as he insisted that’s currently not the case. “I love competing, I love playing,” Woods told reporters ahead of his highly-anticipated return to competitive golf. While confirming the operation to fuse his ankle earlier this year was successful, Woods said that his recovery took its toll. “Unfortunately I’ve had experience, I’ve gone through it before and I’m here on the good side now.”Woods has not played competitive golf since April, 2023. The move gave the players a one-seat advantage after the controversial merger in June between the PGA Tour and Saudi-backed LIV Golf.

Tiger Woods sounded more optimistic about playing golf next year than he did about the PGA Tour finalizing a deal with Saudi Arabia or private investors by the end of the year. Woods said only there were options, a lot of moving parts and that all sides were working aggressively toward finalizing a deal. “All the parties are talking and we’re aggressively working on trying to get a deal done,” he said. The other direction is working toward a finalized deal by the end of the year, or soon thereafter. Woods also is seen as a top candidate to be the next U.S. Ryder Cup captain for Bethpage Black in 2025.

But for many decades, the NFL and other leagues opposed having sport franchises in Las Vegas, most likely due to the city’s deeply rooted gambling industry. “Vegas fans tend to be sports fans, too, and sports have helped us expand the customer base that are willing to consider Las Vegas,” Hill said. And during the past two years, Las Vegas and other tourist-centric cities have benefitted from consumers’ post-pandemic splurges on experiences and travel versus goods. “The tax benefits were definitely factored into how Chevron valued Hess,” said Donald Williamson, an accounting professor at American University’s Kogod School of Business. “When you combine the companies, we have the greater U.S. income, and we can use those net operating losses,” he said. The bottom line effect, when that loss limit is multiplied by the U.S. federal tax rate of 21%, is extra cash flow that could top $400 million a year. “There’s a strong and appropriate case to increase the corporate income tax rate.”Last year, corporate tax revenue totaled a record $425 billion, according to the Congressional Budget Office. Over the past decade, Chevron's current U.S. federal tax expense has averaged $40 million a year.

New York CNN —Columbia University has postponed its massive Giving Day fundraising event scheduled for Wednesday amid simmering tensions on campus over the Israel-Hamas war. At Columbia, school officials took the rare step earlier this month of shutting the campus down to the public as two simultaneous rallies were held on school grounds. That decision came after the assault of a Columbia student who was hanging up posters on campus in support of Israel. In a statement on Tuesday, the alumni club of Israel said it is now “formally disengaged” from UPenn. We are reviewing this incident and will take any appropriate steps with respect to the individuals involved in accordance with university policies,” the university said.

The deal, valued at $253 a share, would be Exxon's biggest since its $81 billion purchase of Mobil Oil in 1998, years before the shale boom began. It combines the largest U.S. oil company with one of the most successful names to emerge from the shale revolution that turned the country into the world's largest oil producer in little more than a decade. Pioneer is the Permian's largest operator accounting for 9% of gross production, while Exxon occupies the No. "The combination of ExxonMobil and Pioneer creates a diversified energy company with the largest footprint of high-return wells in the Permian Basin," said Pioneer CEO Scott Sheffield. Under Sheffield, Pioneer grew through rapid-fire purchases, including multi-billion dollar deals in 2021 for DoublePoint Energy and Parsley Energy.

“I have argued for years that the biggest banks in the world are still too big to fail. In practice, however, the economic damage would be considerable.”Keller-Sutter was at the center of a government-orchestrated rescue of Credit Suisse by its larger rival UBS (UBS) earlier this month. Global standards for dealing with teetering “too big to fail” banks were key a part of the package of rules introduced after the global financial crisis. They were designed to make it possible to wind down a big bank without destabilizing the financial system or exposing taxpayers to the risk of losses. The rest is lent out at higher interest rates or invested, because that’s how big banks make most of their profit.

CNN —Tiger Woods has called for Greg Norman, the CEO of the Saudi-backed LIV Golf series, to stand down amid a rift with the PGA Tour. Earlier this year, LIV Golf joined an antitrust lawsuit alongside some of its players, alleging that the PGA Tour threatened to place lifetime bans on players who participate in the LIV Golf series. David Cannon/Getty ImagesThe LIV Golf series is backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) – a sovereign wealth fund chaired by Mohammed bin Salman, the crown prince of Saudi Arabia. Woods – who returned to golf earlier this year following serious injuries sustained in a car accident – has previously voiced opposition to the LIV Golf series, and on Wednesday, he reaffirmed his stance. LIV Golf declined to comment on Woods’ latest remarks when contacted by CNN.
