Mamadi Doumbouya for The New York Times Talk Marilynne Robinson Considers Biden a Gift of GodFor years, I had a secondhand paperback copy of Marilynne Robinson’s 1980 novel, “Housekeeping,” on my bookshelf that I never got around to reading. I think that’s true. Well, I have to say I’m very surprised, shocked, disillusioned perhaps by the turn that things have taken in this country in the last decade or so. Genesis has a lot to do with the way people who claim to be religious understand the nature of God. Marilynne Robinson receiving the National Humanities Medal from President Barack Obama in 2013.

Damron’s design rocketing to internet fame is just one story of how women’s fan apparel has found itself in the spotlight. Within a month, that jacket's designer, Kristin Juszczyk, would score a NFL licensing deal. These meteoric success stories have illustrated the potency of a market for women’s sports apparel that merges fashion and fan culture. “I’m glad more of this stuff can start being made,” Robinson, a Black designer who runs Boujee Basics, says. The upfront costs were too steep for another Black designer, De'fron Fobb, 45, who wanted to craft items when the New Orleans Saints made the Super Bowl in 2010.

There are a few key forces forces driving the latest bitcoin euphoria, including an influx of money from investors in newly launched bitcoin exchange-traded funds and excitement over the halving, when the rate of bitcoin production is slashed. “Which is exciting because if history rhymes, the next 12-18 months is going to be a scorcher for crypto.”The halving hypeThe halving, also called the “halvening,” is a foundational concept in the bitcoin philosophy. In 2016, it was about almost 800% over that two-year period; for the 2020 halving, investors saw a 700% gain. The imminent bitcoin halving is setting up a grand chess game in the markets, Henry Robinson, co-founder of Decimal Digital Currency, said in an email. The timing of this year’s halving is also significant, coming just a few months after the US Securities and Exchange Commission approved the first spot bitcoin ETFs.

Fentanyl pills found by officers from the Drug Enforcement Administration are seen in this handout picture, in New York, U.S., October 4, 2022. Drug Enforcement Administration/Handout via REUTERS Acquire Licensing RightsWASHINGTON, Sept 7 (Reuters) - The Biden administration is facing an "unwillingness" by Mexico to devote enough resources to help stem the flow of the illegal drug fentanyl into the United States, and is pressing Mexican authorities to do more, a U.S. official said on Thursday. President Joe Biden's administration has been seeking increased cooperation from both Mexico and China in curbing the flow of fentanyl and its precursor chemicals, which have fueled a sharp rise in U.S. overdose deaths. “To be honest, the challenge that we have with Mexico is their unwillingness to put … sufficient resources into the fight, and we are pushing them to do that,” Robinson said when asked whether Mexico was showing enough political will to tackle the fentanyl crisis. Mexican Foreign Minister Alicia Barcena said on August 10 that Mexico was developing a digital tracking system for fentanyl precursor chemicals, including methods to detect the substances at Mexico's ports and border crossing points.

Addressing a welcoming crowd at a casino in Davenport, Iowa, DeSantis boasted about his policy record in Florida and blasted the Democratic Biden administration on issues such as crime and immigration. Craig Robinson, a former political director of the Iowa Republican Party, believes Iowa voters are eager to hear from DeSantis, who polls show to be Trump's biggest rival for the nomination. Randy Yaddof, 71, of Davenport described himself as a Trump supporter but said after listening to DeSantis he was considering backing the Florida governor. Iowa could be particularly crucial for DeSantis, who is expected to jump into the 2024 White House race later in the spring. The state will hold the first Republican nominating contest early next year, and a win there would show DeSantis is a viable candidate against Trump. DeSantis will appear at events in Des Moines, the state capital, and the river town of Davenport that will be moderated by Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds. Craig Robinson, a former political director of the Iowa Republican Party, believes Iowa voters are eager to hear from DeSantis, who polls show to be Trump's biggest rival for the nomination. But the Midwestern state will remain as the first electoral test for Republican presidential candidates.
