☆ Trump seeds disinformation as he sets course for a possible Oval Office return

In a fact-bending blast of disinformation, the former president is charging Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden’s White House of the very transgressions of which he stands accused. This is false, but Trump, while president, did repurpose FEMA funds to help finance his hardline immigration policies. But in retrospect, the charade featuring his first White House press secretary Sean Spicer was a harbinger of an administration that bucked fact as an instrument of political power. Trump voters respond to his populism and his evisceration of elites and many sincerely believe he’s a response to a march to the left by the Democratic Party. Both Trump and Harris, who are deadlocked in the polls, are chasing voters who may not habitually follow politics.

Following Hurricane Helene, and with Hurricane Milton barreling toward Florida, Trump has repeatedly falsely claimed, without evidence, that the White House is diverting disaster relief aid to unrelated migrant programs. Harris described traveling to both Georgia and North Carolina to survey the impact of the hurricane, emphasizing the “pain” and “shock” people are still in. They’re really, really, really worried. A poll released last week from AAPI Data, a data analytics firm that focuses on Asian Americans, found that 66% of Asian American voters plan to support Harris and 28% intend to back Trump. The same survey found that 62% of Asian American voters say they have a favorable opinion of Harris, compared with 35% who hold an unfavorable view. Republican officials declined to elaborate on efforts to win over Asian American voters. The Harris campaign has three full-time staffers at the national headquarters dedicated to engaging Asian American voters, a spokeswoman said, with additional staff being deployed to Georgia and other battleground states. As she presided over a virtual phone bank from her kitchen one night last week, she said she believed Asian American voters could make the difference in her Southern battleground state.
