A key skill he mastered during his 24 years as one of the FBI's lead international negotiators was emotional intelligence. To resolve the conflict, he did three things that he says people with high emotional intelligence do when communicating with others, especially during sensitive conversations:1. This keeps you present and emotionally sober while allowing the bank robber to continue talking. Label the other person's emotionsVoss then told the second bank robber, "It wasn't your fault, was it?" High emotional intelligence requires strategic listening

May 16 (Reuters) - Republican voters in Kentucky were casting ballots on Tuesday to choose their party's challenger to Democratic Governor Andy Beshear, setting up one of the most closely watched elections of the year. The winner will face Beshear, who enjoys high approval ratings despite being a Democrat in a strongly Republican state, in the November general election. Trump won Kentucky in the 2020 election against Democrat Joe Biden by more than 25 percentage points. While Cameron has Trump's official endorsement, other candidates have sought to claim the mantle of Trump's "Make America Great Again" movement. One Republican challenger, Stephen Knipper, has echoed Trump's false claims that the 2020 election was rigged and endorsed conspiracy theories about voting machines.
These books cover real estate and investing, business, personal development, and leadership. Intrigued by real-estate investing, Rivers took the plunge and bought his first real-estate investment property in 2019. In a recent interview, Rivers shared the 10 books — spanning topics such as business, investing, and personal development — that helped him scale his portfolio quickly. "What It Takes" by Stephen A. SchwarzmanThis book, written by the billionaire investor and Blackstone CEO Stephen A. Schwarzman, is one of Rivers' personal favorites. While much of the focus for entrepreneurs is on building a business, Rivers said understanding how to sell a business was just as important.
REUTERS/Florence Lo/Illustration/File PhotoLONDON/STOCKHOLM, April 28 (Reuters) - As recently as February, generative AI did not feature prominently in EU lawmakers' plans for regulating generative artificial intelligence (AI) technologies such as ChatGPT. LAST-MINUTE CHANGESSince launching in November, ChatGPT has become the fastest growing app in history, and sparked a flurry of activity from Big Tech competitors and investment in generative AI startups like Anthropic and Midjourney. THE TERMINATORUntil recently, MEPs were still unconvinced that generative AI deserved any special consideration. In February, Tudorache told Reuters that generative AI was "not going to be covered" in-depth. But Tudorache and his colleagues now agree on the need for laws specifically targeting the use of generative AI.

It taught him the expectations to set for his employees while he was building up his full-service real estate firm, Rivers Capital Group. The US national security team is once more ignominiously living out the line made famous by pop star Britney Spears after finding itself back in the uncomfortable position of watching state secrets ping-pong around the internet. As a veteran of the National Security Council and State Department, I have a couple of ideas about what we need to change to get Spears’ song off repeat. Indeed, whatever the cause of this latest breach, it should galvanize us to shut the revolving door of access to our most sensitive secrets. For starters, there should be a minimum time commitment from those appointed to high political office. This turnover creates massive disruptions and gaps in our national security structure.
The countries are still not major cocaine producers, but the seizures reflect the crop's hardiness. Honduras, on the other hand, has shown minimal cocaine production capabilities, with rudimentary labs capable of producing small amounts of cocaine. While they have limited cocaine production ability, increasing coca cultivation in traditionally non-producing countries could be a sign of bigger things to come. For anti-narcotics authorities around the region, the danger posed by up-and-coming coca producers is palpable. The US State Department has recognized this in its latest report, dubbing coca production in Honduras and Venezuela "troublesome."

I read the book "Never Split the Difference" which felt like a detailed negotiation course. Chris Voss, the author of "Never Split the Difference," demonstrating a negotiation technique in his MasterClass. "No" is how negotiations start, not end. It was eye-opening to read that the word "no" is the start of a negotiation, not the end of it. Managing your tone of voice is one of the first things mentioned in the book.

Like many parents, Greg and Selena Robleto offered to pay their kids for doing household chores. The couple quickly learned their money was no good. The girls wanted to be paid in Robux—the online currency in videogames from Roblox Corp.—and turned up their noses at the crinkled, paper dollars the couple was offering.

Curtis Brown“We’re trying to smile and make people happy for the holidays, and in the back of our heads we’re thinking, ‘I hope I don’t get shot,’” said Jinkx Monsoon, winner of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” season five and “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars” season seven. For months, many right-wing lawmakers, media personalities and activists have accused LGBTQ people — and drag performers in particular — of “grooming,” “indoctrinating” and “sexualizing” children. Latrice Royale, who has appeared on both “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars,” reasoned that the backlash is due to the greater visibility of drag brought on by the global success of the RuPaul-led competition shows, which have spinoffs in at least 16 other countries. Drag performers who have hosted events that have catered to children, such as Drag Story Hours at public libraries or family-friendly drag brunches, have particularly drawn the ire of conservative protesters. Them.”BenDeLaCreme, who appeared on the sixth season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and the third season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars,” shared a similar sentiment.
Kentucky voters rejected a ballot proposal that would have amended the state constitution to explicitly say it does not protect a right to abortion, NBC News projects. It would have been nearly impossible to restore abortion access in Kentucky through legal pathways if the measure had passed, said Rachel Sweet, a campaign manager for Protect Kentucky Access, which opposed the referendum. As of early Wednesday, voters in California, Vermont and Michigan have voted to enshrine abortion rights in their state constitutions. In reversing the half-century precedent, the court left the power to limit or grant abortion rights to the states. That triggered one ballot measure on abortion in Kansas over the summer, and five more this fall.
In reversing the half-century precedent, the court left the power to limit or grant abortion rights to the states. In August, a judge temporarily blocked enforcement of the anti-abortion law, which had been inactive in the decades that Roe v. Wade stood. Gretchen Whitmer, the Democratic incumbent, has been a champion for abortion rights, but she is fending off a challenge from Republican candidate Tudor Dixon, who called the abortion ballot proposition “radical” in a debate with her. Voters will determine whether to alter the state constitution to explicitly say it does not protect a right to abortion or abortion funding. Abortion rights advocates are challenging those laws.
REUTERS/Gabriella Borter/File PhotoOct 18 (Reuters) - An abortion rights vote in Kentucky on Nov. 8 will determine if the conservative state becomes Kansas 2.0. The upcoming vote is a test of public support for Kentucky's strict abortion laws, which took effect after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade's federal abortion protections in June. Kentucky is the only one of those states to have voters weigh in on abortion rights while enforcing a near-total ban. A coalition of state and national abortion rights groups called Protect Kentucky Access aims to win support from conservatives who disagree with the overturn of the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling and the state's abortion ban. Leticia Martinez, a consultant who has advised both opposition campaigns, said while the Kansas win informed the Kentucky efforts, the current strategy was tailored to Kentucky voters specifically.
Meal kit maker HelloFresh is laying off 611 workers and closing a Richmond, California warehouse. The company notified 611 workers at its Richmond, California warehouse on October 10 that it plans to eliminate their roles as of December 11. Like many grocery delivery players, HelloFresh saw sales rise in the early months of the pandemic. Rival meal kit company Blue Apron's shares have seen a similar rout, falling 67% year-to-date. Last year, HelloFresh started allowing customers to add other grocery items to their regular meal kit deliveries.
Sean Rayford | Getty ImagesIf you're planning to shop for a used car in the next few months, be sure to check for flood damage before signing on the dotted line. Flooded cars are 'rotting from the inside out'Floodwaters can destroy — sometimes slowly — electronics, lubricants and mechanical systems in vehicles. Not all titles will reflect flood damageThat's because not all flooded cars are recorded as such unless an insurance company is involved. Reselling them to consumers can get on the right side of the law if the title discloses the flood damage. So, with no insurance company involvement there may not be any official record of the flood damage.
School-age kids added violent lyrics to the “Barney & Friends” theme song. “Parents admit to a cordial dislike of the saccharine saurian, and no self-respecting second-grader will admit to liking Barney.”Barney on "Barney And Friends" in 1992. Jim Chen, the chief lobbyist for Rivian Automotive Inc., one of the most ambitious electric-vehicle startups, wants to change how people buy cars and trucks. He had some success making that happen last decade at Tesla where he made it easier to purchase models directly from the manufacturer. Now he faces new resistance from a powerful political group: local car dealerships. In the state of Washington, opposition from those dealerships sank a proposal pushed by Mr. Chen that would have allowed electric-vehicle manufacturers to sell from their own stores and bypass dealers. Another potential piece of legislation in Connecticut also died this year.
For the third year in a row, Olins Business School was ranked the top entrepreneurship program. Out of 131 schools, Olin's MBA program ties with Notre Dame's Mendoza College of Business for 29th place in US News & World Report's 2023 Best Business Schools report for its full-time MBA program. "This is not a program where you can get lost in a crowd of 300 to 400 students," Pyles said. In fact, she flagged lack of transparency as an indication the student may lack genuine interest in Olin's MBA program and what it has to offer. Nnakwue reached out to Olin students on LinkedIn and introduced himself as a prospective student interested in learning more about the Olin experience.
