Tesla said prices of its Model Y vehicles will be increased by approximately 2,000 euros ($2,177) in some European countries effective March 22, according to a company statement on Saturday. It had announced on Friday price hikes for all Model Y cars in the U.S. by $1,000 effective April 1. Barclays analyst Dan Levy, for example, lowered his target on Tesla shares to $225 from $250, saying that a "cloudy path ahead reinforces some downside risk." Guggenheim left a sell rating and $132 price target in place. "We expect consensus estimates to come down on what will likely be interpreted as a cautious outlook with reduced visibility," wrote Citi's Itay Michaeli. Michaeli lowered Citi's Tesla price target to $224 from $255 a share, implying about 8% upside from Wednesday's close. The bank remains on the sidelines with a neutral rating on Tesla shares, awaiting a "more convincing entry point," he wrote.

There's good news for fixed-income investors heading into next year, according to Goldman Sachs Asset Management. After a dismal 2023, next year will be "the year of the bond," predicted Lindsay Rosner, head of multisector fixed income investing at the money manager. "Fixed income is a great place to be," she said in an interview with CNBC. The investment firm recently released its outlook for 2024 and called the recent run of negative fixed income returns in response to "an inflation and policy shock" an anomaly and not the trend. "Given [that] duration can be your friend again, things are lining up to put you in a really good position in fixed income."

Why Warblers Flock to Wealthier Neighborhoods

The evolutionary effects of redlining are percolating through urban wildlife populations, but they are not yet set in stone. Not only does the composition of wildlife differ between neighborhoods, but so does the incidence of people looking for wildlife. Diego Ellis Soto, a Ph.D. student at Yale, found that across the country, historically redlined neighborhoods were the least studied areas for bird diversity. Mr. Ellis Soto, who is from Uruguay, said he was shocked when he arrived in New Haven and saw how segregated the city was. “How can we protect what we don’t have information for?” Mr. Ellis Soto said.

Opinion: Uncomfortable reality for Biden

We’re looking back at the strongest, smartest opinion takes of the week from CNN and other outlets. He didn’t live to see the allies’ victory in World War II that year or the conference in San Francisco that month that established the United Nations. But his diplomatic efforts to meet with Arab leaders came undone after a devastating explosion at a hospital in Gaza. Biden himself initially supported the US 2003 war in Iraq only to end up as the president who ordered the US pullout of Afghanistan. “This is the politics that Donald Trump’s rhetoric has wrought among his supporters in the Republican Party,” wrote Avlon.

A Goldman Sachs Group Inc. logo hangs on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange in New York, U.S., on Wednesday, May 19, 2010. Investors have piled into short-term U.S. government bonds in a bid to wait out the upheaval caused by a blowout in longer-term yields, according to a Goldman Sachs executive. The trade is a key way that institutions and wealthy investors are adjusting to the surge in long-term interest rates that have roiled markets lately. The 10-year Treasury yield has been climbing for weeks, reaching a 16-year high of 4.89% Friday after the September jobs report showed that employers were still hiring aggressively. Investors poured more than $1 trillion into new T-bills last quarter, according to Bloomberg.

At the center of the storm is the 10-year Treasury yield , one of the most influential numbers in finance. The relentless rise in borrowing costs has blown past forecasters' predictions and has Wall Street casting about for explanations. Companies that can only issue debt in the high-yield market, which includes many retail employers, will confront sharply higher borrowing costs. Higher rates squeeze the housing industry and push commercial real estate closer to default. "So if banks haven't fixed their issues since then, the problem is only worse, because rates are only higher."

CNN —The 2023 Nobel Prize in physics has been awarded to a team of scientists who created a ground-breaking technique using lasers to understand the extremely rapid movements of electrons, which were previously thought impossible to follow. “An attosecond is to one second as one second is to the age of the universe,” the committee explained. Pierre Agostini, Ferenc Krausz and Anne L'Huillier shared this year's physics prize. Rapid movements blur together, making extremely short events impossible to observe. Electrons’ movements in atoms and molecules are so rapid that they are measured in attoseconds.

In addition to a third-quarter miss, Deutsche Bank sees "meaningful downside risk" to Tesla 's 2024 consensus expectations due to limited volume growth next year. Analyst Emmanuel Rosner cut his price target on the stock by $15 to $285, which suggests shares can gain 16.7% from Tuesday's closing price. "We see near term risk from weaker fundamentals into 2024," Rosner said in a Tuesday note. Despite its stock price boom, Rosner isn't too confident about Tesla's prospects going forward. The analyst lowered his third-quarter revenue forecast to $23.3 billion on lower volume expectations, down from $24.1 billion.

But for older adults, our towns and cities are filled with obstacles — stairs, unsafe sidewalks and crossings, inadequate lighting — that grow increasingly difficult for them as they age. Alberto Lau, 78, San DiegoDr. Hong responds: Busy streets and intersections can be challenging for older adults to navigate. Additionally, installing more crosswalks and making them more visible can make it easier for older adults to cross the street safely. Yet more and more older adults need the kind of high-quality transportation that can reliably get them from one place to another. This can be especially important for older adults, who may have slower reaction times or difficulty seeing oncoming traffic.

Instead, Wall Street analysts and policymakers at the Federal Reserve will scrutinize the “core” inflation measure that strips out food and fuel prices, which can be volatile. When it comes to the monthly change in core inflation, the news could be a lot more encouraging. If that pans out, it would make for the lowest back-to-back core inflation readings since early 2021. Still, the inflation report could be more difficult for the Biden administration to brag about than the last few reports, which showed across-the-board cooling. “Core inflation pressures are cooling down,” she said.

PinnedInflation data released on Wednesday showed a pronounced cooling and offered some of the most hopeful news since the Federal Reserve began trying to tame rapid price increases 16 months ago. Officials have signaled in recent weeks that they are likely to raise interest rates at their July 25-26 meeting. For one thing, the cost of housing as measured by the Consumer Price Index — which relies on rent prices — is coming down sharply. The Fed officially targets 2 percent inflation on average over time, though it defines that goal using a separate inflation measure, the Personal Consumption Expenditures index. Interest rates increases work partly by slowing the job market and cooling wage increases, so the Fed’s fight against inflation and the strength of the labor market are closely tied.

Going Bankrupt in the Name of Efficiency

People in favor of private equity will say that the firms serve a crucial function, making troubled businesses more robust and efficient. “Roughly one in five large companies acquired through leveraged buyouts go bankrupt in a decade,” he writes. By 2017, after years of layoffs, crushing debt and being charged regular management fees by the private equity firms “for the privilege to be owned by them,” Ballou writes, Toys “R” Us was bankrupt. Private equity firms have acquired nursing homes, provided staffing for hospitals and services for prisons. And, of course, the cost-cutting measures typically imposed on acquired companies often include slashed wages and abandoned pension obligations.

The fresh data offer the latest evidence that the Fed’s push to control rapid price increases is beginning to work. Investors have been betting that Fed officials will leave rates unchanged at their meeting this week, breaking their long streak of increases. Even so, many investors continue to expect that Fed officials will restart rate increases in July. That “core” price index rose 5.3 percent in May compared with a year earlier. And price increases for goods excluding motor vehicles remained positive, instead of subtracting from inflation as some economists have been expecting.

As legacy automakers increasingly ramp production of all-electric vehicles, cushioned by the profits of gas-powered models, a handful of EV startups are scrambling to conserve cash and stay in the mix. It also means the amount of cash Fisker had left as of the end of March, $652.5 million, isn't yet cause for alarm. Still, Fisker cut its production guidance for 2023 to between 32,000 vehicles and 36,000 vehicles, from 42,400 in its original plan. Or as Evercore ISI analyst Doug Dutton wrote before Fisker's earnings report, "Fisker is beginning to turn into a story of binary and 'show me' outcomes." It had $108.1 million remaining as of the end of March, but it lost $171.1 million in the first quarter .
