Some California residents got $40,000 in grant money to build tiny homes on their properties. AdvertisementAdvertisementThousands of California homeowners got a $40,000 check from the state to build a tiny home in their backyard last year. California is reviving the ADU grant program again, but details are being worked out. Altogether, we paid $124,000 out of pocket, got the $40,000 from the state, and a forgivable loan of $67,500. I paid for the majority of the project with my savings, and the rest with the $40,000 California ADU grant.

Those findings come from a study released last week by Hispanics in Philanthropy, an organization that works to advance Latino giving, and the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. How long immigrants lived in the United States also affected giving rates: Long-established immigrants largely gave at higher rates, especially to religious congregations, than recent immigrants. The importance of relationshipsAna Gloria Rivas-Vázquez, who directs Hispanic giving at Catholic Relief Services, says that while all fundraising is about building relations, it’s particularly important for Latino donors. Though there are commonalities among Latino donors, nonprofit professionals stress U.S. Latinos are highly varied in culture, politics, education, and income. “There was a time when people thought that engaging Latino donors meant: OK, we need to do this in Spanish,” Rivas-Vázquez says.

The vote capped a legislative session in California that once again showed the strength of organized labor in the nation's most populous state. They could get unemployment benefits starting in January, which could benefit actors, writers and Southern California hotel workers who have been on strike for months. Organized labor's influence is easily explained by their prolific campaign donations, as they are some of the most reliable source of funds for the Democrats who control the state Legislature. In the spring, lawmakers agreed to Newsom's request to authorize state regulators to punish oil companies for price gouging. But California lawmakers passed bills this year to expand protections for young LGBTQ+ people.

teenagers, high school is a much more accepting place than even a decade ago. Their experiences highlight a “paradoxical finding,” as researchers have described it: Even as social inclusion for young L.G.B.T.Q. To better understand, we took a national poll and talked to two dozen high school students in five states. It’s a different world from when his older sister, Brianna Henderson, attended just seven years ago, when there were very few openly gay students. His home state has passed laws related to restroom use and sports participation for young transgender people.

MEXICO CITY, May 31 (Reuters) - Better coordination between Mexico's government and telecoms companies is needed to ensure a faster roll-out of 5G services to meet the demand of major companies such as Tesla (TSLA.O), executives and officials said on Wednesday. But the federal government needs to help connect the manufacturing sector with telecoms providers to boost 5G services and attract more investment, said Gabriel Szekely, Chief Executive of Mexico's National Telecommunications Association (Anatel). "(The government) does not have a specific vision for the 5G world to be implemented in Mexico," Szekely said. About 15% of Mexico's population has access to 5G services, compared to 61% in the United States, Szekely said, citing a recent study. "In the case of the train... the government has not come out to say this is what is needed and this is the plan," Szekely said.

R1 RCM can extend this year's rally following an uptick in product use, Bank of America said. Analyst Michael Cherny reiterated his buy rating and raised his price target by $3 to $22. His new price target implies the medical billing stock could rally 31.1% over the next year. The company is uniquely well-positioned for an uptick in utilization, which could cushion year-end results and full-year guidance, according to the analyst. The new multiple of price to enterprise-value-to-EBITDA is still reasonable and at a discount to the long-term average, Cherny noted.
The OAS Permanent Council approved the document by consensus, but Mexico took the opportunity to criticize Secretary General Luis Almagro, saying he should have resigned and could not be trusted. The findings of the probe, launched late last year following a whistleblower's complaint, were laid out in a 121-page report distributed to member-states on Monday. It was founded 75 years ago to promote regional cooperation, but in recent years has struggled with ideological divisions among its 34 members. The resolution called on OAS officers to present "proposals for the further updating of the Code of Ethics and the Staff Regulations of the Organization." Luz Elena Banos Rivas, Mexico's OAS ambassador and a frequent critic of Almagro, said he should have resigned after admitting to the relationship.

"There are favorable conditions in Nuevo Leon. Lopez Obrador said he would emphasize to Tesla the need for careful planning around water, electricity and other services, noting certain northern zones ban water extraction while the southeast holds 70% of Mexico's water. Lopez Obrador has made it a priority to draw investment to southern Mexico, which has lacked the level of industrialization that has flourished along Mexico's northern border. Following Lopez Obrador's remarks on Monday, Nuevo Leon Economy Minister Ivan Rivas said water access had not been an issue for companies or held back investment, according to Mexican outlet Milenio.

The Oath Keepers were founded in 2009, pledging to stand up to tyranny. The Oath Keepers, to be sure, are not to be confused with a charming but a little bit problematic ex. A look at the list of 10 orders the Oath Keepers insisted its members — cops and soldiers — would not carry out reveals as much. Thanks to the magic of the Internet Archive, however, we can see just how they were received on the Oath Keepers' website at the time. But there is, in my take, nothing different about the underlying threat that Oath Keepers posed from day one."
The temporary order from the nation's highest court means Title 42 will stay in place until further notice from the court. Title 42, aimed at slowing the spread of COVID-19, was issued in March 2020 under Republican former President Donald Trump, an immigration restrictionist. Jean-Pierre stressed that migrants entering illegally could still be removed via other means even if eventually Title 42 goes away.
