Mancini resigns as Italy head coach
  + stars: | 2023-08-13 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +1 min
Aug 13 (Reuters) - Roberto Mancini has resigned as head coach of the Italian national team, the country's football federation (FIGC) said on Sunday. Mancini took charge of the team in 2018 after they failed to qualify for the World Cup, having previously not missed a World Cup finals since 1958. He guided Italy to success at the European Championship in 2021 but the team once again failed to qualify for last year's World Cup in Qatar. In June, Italy claimed third place at the Nations League finals under Mancini. Following last year's failed World Cup qualifying campaign, Mancini came under intense pressure in the Italian media to resign but received backing from the nation's federation president to continue in the role.

What lies at the bottom of the ocean?
  + stars: | 2023-06-21 | by ( Jackie Wattles | Ashley Strickland | Katie Hunt | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +12 min
What lies at the bottom of the oceanWhile what’s considered the deep ocean extends from 3,280 feet to 19,685 feet (1,000 meters to 6,000 meters) beneath the surface, deep-sea trenches can plunge to 36,000 feet (11,000 meters), according to the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Massachusetts. Alessandro Mancini/Alamy Stock PhotoWhy mapping the ocean is so challengingFrom a strictly scientific perspective, touristic trips to the ocean floor do little to advance our understanding of the ocean’s mysteries. “We want to go to the highest, the lowest, the longest.”But only a “very small percentage of the deep ocean, and even the middle ocean, has been seen by human eyes — an infinitesimal amount. “However, 150 years of modern oceanography have led to better understanding of many aspects of the ocean such as the life it contains, its chemistry and its role in the Earth system.”Mapping the ocean “helps us to understand how the shape of the seafloor affects ocean currents, and where marine life occurs,” Rogers added. Researchers say the ocean and the life it contains could provide answers to some of medicine’s biggest challenges, such as antibiotic drug resistance.

Joselu’s late winner puts Spain into Nations League final
  + stars: | 2023-06-15 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
ENSCHEDE, Netherlands, June 15 (Reuters) - Substitute Joselu scored a fortunate winner three minutes from the end as Spain booked their place in a second successive Nations League final with a deserved 2-1 victory over Italy on Thursday. "The team played a great game," Joselu told reporters. Thursday's result in Enschede was a repeat of the 2021 Nations League semi-final between the teams and became a battle of Spain’s possession game versus Italy’s ability to hit them on the counter-attack with swift breaks. "Spain deserved it, even if they only found the goal right near the end. We set up slightly differently, but we couldn't do much in the second half," Italy coach Roberto Mancini told RAI.

I think they were very unfortunate because none of the three deserved to lose their respective finals," Mancini told a press conference on Wednesday. And in the Under-20 World Cup, Italy made it to the final and we shouldn't play that down. Italy face Spain on Thursday in their Nations League semi-final in the Dutch city of Enschede. "We have reached the Nations League finals for the second time and it's a good achievement, especially because we played the group stage with several youngsters,” added Mancini. The match was tetchy with referee Anthony Taylor dishing out 14 yellow cards, the most ever in a Europa League game, and playing almost 30 minutes of stoppage time in total. Their run to the final saw them beat PSV Eindhoven, Fenerbahce and Manchester United before downing Juventus in the semis. It was the third consecutive Europa League final that ended in a penalty shootout. In recent years some euro zone countries have sought to rein in temporary contracts to promote stable jobs. It also plans to reduce the labour tax costs to employers of temporary contracts, which were raised in 2018. The reform reversed the easy hire-and-fire regime put in place after the sovereign debt crisis a decade ago by abolishing most forms of temporary contracts. Within that total, the number of temporary workers has jumped by 25% from 2.4 million to 3.0 million. Stable contracts should be the norm, not the exception," she said.

Today, Mancini's two boats bring in an average of $38,800 in revenue per month, according to documents reviewed by CNBC Make It. That's off only 30 minutes of work per day, spent managing bookings and making sure the boats' captains — who are hired and paid by individual renters — are maintaining his watercrafts properly, Mancini says. Instead of using the money to pay down the $550,000 in loans he took out to buy the boats, Mancini says he plans to funnel it toward more watercraft purchases and other real estate opportunities. Here's how Mancini used his sales experience to launch his "mostly passive" six-figure boat business, and what waters he plans to charter next.
Organizers of the annual rally and march say they need to continue holding the event despite the high court's decision last year to reverse the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling. The activists say they will continue to march every January "until a culture of life is restored in the United States of America." The Supreme Court overturned Roe in a 5-4 decision on June 24 — nearly 50 years after the landmark ruling — in a case about Mississippi’s abortion ban, which it upheld in a 6-3 ruling. And as conservatives implement restrictions across the country, Democrats are expanding access to abortion in states where they control the legislatures. The Biden administration has also sought to protect abortion rights despite the end of Roe.
[1/2] Women's March activists hold signs outside the White House in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to overturn the landmark Roe v Wade abortion decision in Washington, D.C., U.S., July 9, 2022. With that goal now accomplished after the U.S. Supreme Court threw out Roe's precedent and gutted federal abortion rights last June, the leaders of March For Life hope to galvanize support for state and federal legislation placing further limits on abortion. Michigan voters approved a state constitutional amendment last November to enshrine abortion rights. This year's national march will take place two days before Jan. 22, which would have been the 50th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision. Abortion rights advocates were marking the occasion by reflecting on the enormous disruption in reproductive healthcare that the United States has witnessed over the last year, and calling for more legislation to protect abortion rights at the state and national level.
