I Asked ChatGPT to Be My Stylist

When I described the midthigh-length dress I wore a few years ago for my job interview at The Times, the chatbot was not impressed. A 21-year-old woman should wear a statement dress, like a sequined mini, to her birthday party, it said. Was it appropriate to wear a white dress to a wedding as part of the wedding party, something I did a few months ago? It suggested that if I really wanted to wear white, I should check with the bride to see if it would be OK. Which, had I asked this question before the wedding, would have been tricky — there were no brides at this particular wedding, just grooms.
Taylor Dafoe and Alex Schulte’s relationship has always included film photography. It was the catalyst for their relationship: after leaving his rangefinder film camera at Ms. Schulte’s house during a party in 2015, Mr. Dafoe went back a few days later to pick it up. “That was part of the appeal, for sure,” Mr. Dafoe said. In recent years, more and more couples are seeking out photographers who can shoot film photos for their weddings. This means that photographers and couples can’t look at the photos until they’ve been developed days or weeks after the wedding.
The trial will be the first test of how Zantac cancer claims will fare before a jury. GSK said in a statement it disagreed with the ruling and would defend the case at trial. Originally marketed by a forerunner of GSK, it was later sold successively to Pfizer (PFE.N), Boehringer Ingelheim and finally Sanofi (SASY.PA). While NDMA is found in low levels in food and water, it is known to cause cancer in larger amounts. Analysts said it was not surprising that Grillo ruled differently from the federal court because California's courts are known to be friendlier to plaintiffs.
[1/2] The Tesla factory is seen in Fremont, California, U.S. June 22, 2018. California state judges typically issue tentative rulings ahead of hearings, but can make changes to those rulings when issuing final decisions. If the agency did not adequately probe certain claims against Tesla before suing, the electric carmaker could seek to have them removed from the case. The agency claims that Tesla's Fremont, California, plant is a racially segregated workplace where Black employees have been harassed and discriminated against in job assignments, discipline and pay. “You don’t get to inquire into the most minute details,” Grillo said.
Companies Tesla Inc FollowMarch 14 (Reuters) - A California civil rights agency suing Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) over alleged widespread race discrimination at its flagship assembly plant must detail the investigation it conducted prior to filing the lawsuit, a judge has ruled. The tentative ruling on Monday by California Superior Court Judge Evelio Grillo in Oakland could give Tesla an opportunity to narrow the lawsuit filed last year by the state Civil Rights Department. If the agency did not probe certain claims against Tesla before suing, the electric carmaker could seek to have them removed from the case. The Civil Rights Department and a Tesla representative did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Several other lawsuits are pending in California courts that accuse Tesla of tolerating discrimination and sexual harassment at its factories.
REUTERS/Brendan McDermid/IllustrationFeb 16 (Reuters) - GSK Plc (GSK.L) is expected to urge a California judge on Thursday to limit what expert testimony jurors can hear in the first trial over claims that the company's heartburn drug Zantac caused cancer. The trial, scheduled to begin Feb. 27 before Alameda County Superior Court Judge Evelio Grillo, will offer the first test of how Zantac cancer claims may fare in state courts. The plaintiff in the upcoming trial, James Goetz, says he developed bladder cancer from taking Zantac sold by British drugmaker GSK. Lawsuits began piling up soon after the recalls began from people who said they developed cancer after taking Zantac. Cases have been filed linking Zantac to at least 10 types of cancer.
Most jobs onboard cruise ships require grueling hours, cramped cabins, and no days off. Insider talked to 5 cruise workers about the best and worst parts of their jobs. Insider spoke with five cruise ship workers including a dancer, musician, chef, and photographer about the best and worst parts of their jobs. And nearly all cruise workers — with entertainers being a notable exception — do not have protected days off until their contract is complete. For many, the unique jobs available on cruise ships are a more intriguing alternative to 9-to-5 desk jobs.
I've worked in the oil field, on research vessels, and on small boats, but working on a cruise ship is the most difficult job I've ever had. Working on a cruise ship has also allowed me to meet people that I would have never met otherwise. Cruise ship officers are divided into three different "watch groups" that are assigned two shifts that are four hours long. A judge in Oakland, California, in a tentative ruling late Tuesday dismissed Tesla's counter-suit claiming the agency did not notify the company of the bias allegations or give it a chance to settle before suing it last February. A Tesla representative and the agency did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The agency argues that Tesla's Fremont, California, plant is a racially segregated workplace where Black employees have been harassed and discriminated against over job assignments, discipline and pay. Several lawsuits are pending in California courts that accuse Tesla of tolerating discrimination and sexual harassment at its factories. A state judge in April cut a jury award to a Black worker who alleged racial harassment from $137 million to $15 million.
[1/4] Fermin Robilotte, 27, gets a tattoo of Argentina's soccer star Lionel Messi, after Argentina's soccer national team won FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, December 21, 2022. After a night of revelry, many flocked to the city's tattoo parlors to commission designs depicting Messi, the team's star player who led Argentina to a third World Cup win. The day after Argentina beat France on penalties in a nail-biting final, Arguello said the phone in his studio had been ringing non-stop with questions about tattoos of Messi, the World Cup and Argentina flags. De Winter is preparing a large-scale design of the entire "Scaloneta", as the Lionel Scaloni-coached national team is known. BEIRUT, Oct 31 (Reuters) - Lebanon took delivery on Monday of its first vaccines to combat a worsening cholera outbreak - together with sharply worded criticism of the crisis-hit country's crumbling public health infrastructure from donor nation France. Lebanon had been cholera-free since 1993, but its public services are suffering under a brutal economic crisis now in its fourth year, while infighting among the country's faction-riven elite has paralysed its political institutions. The vaccines would play "an essential role" in limiting the disease's spread, Health Minister Firass Abiad told reporters in the capital as he announced the first batch. "The origins of this epidemic, in which public health is at stake, must also be treated," Anne Grillo told reporters. The outbreak was "a new and worrying illustration of the critical decline in public provision of access to water and sanitary services in Lebanon."
More marketers are taking notice of California’s data privacy laws after the state said last month that cosmetics retailer Sephora had agreed to pay $1.2 million in penalties for alleged violations related to its targeted advertising practices. Some companies that have received letters have complied or begun working toward compliance, while others remain under investigation, the spokesperson said. Many companies delayed compliance because they disagree with that definition and don’t want to tell consumers that they sell data, he said. The state’s determination that Sephora didn’t process global opt-out requests played a key role in the attorney general’s decision to take action. “People see a headline about Sephora and everyone thinks they sold data,” she said.
