Mexico gained tens of thousands of jobs when U.S. and foreign automakers moved their plants to Mexico under the free trade pact to take advantage of much lower wages. But the idea that Chinese parts — or even whole cars — could be piggybacking on that arrangement to further hollow out the U.S. auto industry has enraged some people north of the border. Shares of Dollar Tree — which owns its namesake brand and Family Dollar — and Dollar General have both fallen roughly 50% this year. Lower income Americans, who comprise about 60% of Dollar General sales, are under more pressure to stretch their dollars in the face of high inflation. In its fiscal 2024 second quarter earnings call, Dollar General said those customers are also more reliant on online storefronts, which dollar stores have had less success in rolling out. Sean Antone, 19, Benjamin Brandenburg, 18, and Logan Clark, 19, were taken into custody a little over a week after the Salisbury Police Department announced the arrests of 12 Salisbury University students in the Oct. 15 assault. Antone was arrested by the Howard County Police Department on Nov. 7, authorities said in a news release. Brandenburg was arrested by Salisbury police on Wednesday, and Clark turned himself in to Salisbury police on Thursday. Police said they were contacted by university police on Oct. 31 about an alleged assault at an off-campus apartment complex for college-aged students. In a Nov. 7 letter, Salisbury University President Carolyn Ringer Lepre called the incident "an act of visceral hate" and said the fraternity was placed on suspension.
