Known as a passionate and provocative theater advocate who pushed for boundary-breaking works and for classics to be adventurously modernized, Brustein founded both the Yale Repertory Theatre and the American Repertory Theatre at Harvard. He was dean of the Yale School of Drama from 1966-1979 and during that time founded the Yale Repertory Theatre. “They'll have an unresolved experience.”After a painful, highly publicized dismissal from Yale, Brustein in 1979 switched to Harvard, where he taught English and founded the American Repertory Theatre in 1980. At both Yale Rep and A.R.T., Brustein told The Boston Globe in 2012, he embraced popular theater with a nationalistic streak: “We were trying to liberate American theater from its British overseers. The light, absurd comedy, which gently mocks the lavishness of other musicals, premiered in 1994 at the American Repertory Theatre and was close to making it to Broadway.

Here in Medora, a tiny town in the badlands of western North Dakota, Teddy Roosevelt is everywhere. The cabin from his Maltese Cross Ranch sits at the gateway of the 70,447-acre Theodore Roosevelt National Park. The Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library, set to open on July 4, 2026, will pay tribute to the 26th president’s “relentless, resilient spirit” and environmental vision. Mention it, and you tend to get a puzzled look and two questions: Doesn’t Roosevelt, who served from 1901 to 1909, already have a presidential library? And why the heck is this one being built in North Dakota?

Both men remained valued employees at Carta, with the sales representative even getting promoted just weeks after the alleged "helicopter penis" incident, according to former employees. CEO Henry Ward cofounded Carta, originally called eShares, in 2012 as a service for startups to digitize their paper stock certificates. Today Carta helps startups track their investors, employees manage their equity awards, and venture capitalists administer their funds. The lawsuit says that 10 days after Rogers filed her complaint, Ward "began treating Ms. Rogers in an aggressive and demeaning manner during several meetings." Many of the employees who have spoken out publicly about Carta and Ward have found themselves embroiled in expensive legal battles.

Microsoft just shut down Project Airsim, its AI-based drone simulation software that was part of its vision for an "industrial metaverse," Insider has learned. Both projects were considered part of Microsoft's "industrial metaverse." Project Airsim was originally launched as an open-source project in 2017, though it later shifted focus into a product for industrial customers. Microsoft kept Project Airsim around because it believed there were large prospective customers for the product, the person said. Gurdeep Pall, previously head of product incubations and business AI who at one point ran Project Bonsai and most recently ran Project Airsim, left last month after 33 years with the company.

Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan challenged Trump's lawyer Michael Madaio during oral arguments in Trump's appeals of pivotal rulings by U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan. Carroll's lawyer Joshua Matz rejected any suggestion that Trump could not waive absolute immunity because "broader structural considerations" were at play. "A party who believes that they are holding onto absolute immunity from suit does not behave the way that Mr. Trump behaved it his case." The appeals court did not say when it will rule. The appeals court could order Trump to pay damages and costs if it ends up agreeing with the judge.

“Trump made us smaller,” Mr. Christie tells his audience as he prowls the stage, explaining that he wants to go after Mr. Trump for two reasons: “One, he deserves it. Almost any pollster will tell you that Mr. Trump’s support is soft once you look beyond the MAGA base. Mr. Christie is the only candidate speaking directly, specifically, to this fear. But in national surveys, Mr. Christie is still polling in the low single digits. But there is something deeper at work here, and it holds clues about what it would take to attack Mr. Trump successfully.

GOP presidential candidate Chris Christie has a basic message for House Republicans: Get a speaker. AdvertisementAdvertisementNearly three weeks after Rep. Kevin McCarthy of California was ousted as House speaker, House Republicans have been unable to coalesce around a successor. For GOP presidential candidate Chris Christie, he's already seen enough. Once a Trump ally, Christie in recent years has become a major critic of the former president, which has both elevated his candidacy and turned off sizable numbers of GOP voters. However, of all of the early-voting states, Christie is best positioned in New Hampshire, where he's largely focused his campaign.

San Francisco Police vehicle is parked on the street near the visa office of the Chinese consulate, where local media has reported a vehicle may have crashed into the building, in San Francisco, California, U.S. on October 9, 2023. San Francisco Police Chief William Scott said the deceased suspect, Zhanyuan Yang, 31, was a Chinese national. According to police, Yang plowed his Honda sedan into the lobby of the consulate visa office around 3 p.m. The only weapons recovered from the scene, police said, were the knife and crossbow, which somewhat resembled a rifle. Police said two security guards inside the consulate initially restrained Yang until police arrived minutes later.

On Thursday, the San Francisco Police Department held a town hall where it addressed details about how the attack on the consulate unfolded. Before officers arrived on the scene, consulate security guards used pepper spray on Yang, police said. Released evidence photos show the crossbow and arrows in the back seat of the crashed car, though a motive remains unclear. According to released 911 calls, witnesses said there were roughly 30 people in the lobby when a car crashed into the consulate building. Last week, the Consulate General of China in San Francisco said in a statement the crash caused “serious damage” and put people in a life-threatening situation.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — San Francisco police are set to provide new details Thursday on their fatal shooting of a man who crashed a car into the Chinese Consulate earlier this month, including releasing new video from the incident. San Francisco police typically host such town halls within 10 days of fatal police shootings. It took place as San Francisco prepared to host next month’s Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, a gathering of world leaders from Pacific Rim nations. Former Vice President Mike Pence is having an unusually quiet week on the trail after filing a finance report showing his campaign facing money troubles. The usually busy Pence campaign’s only public event this week was a pre-planned Tuesday Newsmax town hall in Windsor Heights, Iowa . Instead, the Pence campaign says he will be in Dallas for private fundraisers and a Republican National Committee event. That puts a serious strain on the day-to-day operations of the campaign — and what's more, Pence also faces a sprint to amass the 70,000 unique donors needed to qualify for the Nov. 8 GOP presidential debate. His campaign has not yet commented on how close it is to meeting the donor threshold, which was a struggle for Pence in the lead-up to the first GOP debate in August.

At a town hall-style event hosted by the right-wing broadcaster Newsmax on Tuesday, Mike Pence was asked questions about Israel, Ukraine and the disarray among House Republicans — all of which he answered in familiar ways. But he was not asked about the one subject that may now matter more than any of his policy views: his campaign’s perilous financial state. A campaign finance report that Mr. Pence filed over the weekend painted a dire picture. The former vice president had just $1.2 million in his campaign account, a skimpier reserve than any of the six Republican rivals he shared a debate stage with last month. Mr. Pence has struggled to achieve the goal he announced when he rolled out his campaign in June — to “reintroduce” himself to voters as his own man, allowing him to step out from the shadow of Donald J. Trump.

The Trump administration separated thousands of children from their parents or guardians they were traveling with as it moved to criminally prosecute people for illegally crossing the southwestern border. It also crucially bars an attempt by a future administration to reenact another family separation policy,” said Gelernt. About 74% of those have been reunited with their families: 2,176 before a Biden administration task force was created and 689 afterward. Some of these benefits were already available to families under a Biden-administration created task force designed to reunite separated families. The settlement also bars future separations, which the task force did not, and Gelernt said a future administration could have disbanded the task force whereas the settlement is binding.

Would some deny the results of the last presidential election? But since then, election conspiracy theories have taken root in the rural, heavily Republican county in northeastern Wisconsin. When she’s defended the election process, Pytleski, a lifelong Republican, has been called a RINO — a Republican in Name Only. The group's efforts come as distrust in elections has gained a persistent foothold across the country, especially in rural areas. Even with that level of local trust, the false belief that the 2020 presidential election was stolen permeates the community.

Neel Kashkari, President and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, speaks during an interview with Reuters in New York City, New York, U.S., May 22, 2023. "It's certainly possible that higher long-term yields may do some of the work for us in terms of bringing inflation back down," Kashkari said in a town hall hosted by Minot State University. "But if those higher long-term yields are higher because their expectations about what we're going to do has changed, then we might actually need to follow through in their expectations in order to maintain those yields." Asked about the chances that inflation falls back to the Fed's 2% goal but the unemployment rate does not rise sharply -- the so-called soft landing for the economy -- Kashkari said it's looking "favorable." Still, he cautioned, if the economy stays too strong, the Fed may need to raise rates further to slow it, risking a harder landing.
