The right-wing social media stars who were allegedly paid millions of dollars in a nefarious Russian influence operation to shape public opinion around the 2024 US presidential election are remaining mum. Tenet Media boasts a slate of high-profile right-wing, pro-Trump commentators including Tim Pool, Dave Rubin, Benny Johnson and several others. The influencers all say they are “victims,” and that the FBI has contacted them for voluntary interviews. The Tenet co-founder then wrote to the Russian state media staffers, stressing that the personality was “really insisting on seeing some materials (profile, article, whatever) on Eduard before (he) feels comfortable moving forward. Two Russian state media employees, Kostiantyn Kalashnikov and Elena Afanasyeva, were charged by the Justice Department with money laundering and violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act.

During an August 24 news briefing, NASA officials also indicated that Boeing disagreed with some of the space agency’s risk assessments. There was “just a little disagreement (between NASA and Boeing) in terms of the level of risk,” NASA’s Commercial Crew Program manager Steve Stich said. …And when you do things with spacecraft that have never been done before, just like Starliner, you’re going to find some things,” he added. “In this case, we found some things that we just could not get comfortable with putting us back in the Starliner.”

His daughter said in July that he was planning to run for Peru’s presidency for the fourth time in 2026. The former university president and mathematics professor was the consummate political outsider when he emerged from obscurity to win Peru’s 1990 election over writer Mario Vargas Llosa. He had hoped to run for Peru’s presidency in 2006, but instead wound up in court facing charges of abuse of power. The federal government and many state governments are passing laws and regulations designed to reduce our use of fossil fuels and increase renewable energy production. Now let's talk about energy production. Big picture, America's production of oil, natural gas, and renewables is growing with natural gas growing most of all. In 1950, natural gas was about 18% of total US energy production. As for oil, US domestic crude oil production has more than doubled since 2000.

However, experts say there is more to Beyoncé’s snub than the industry’s longtime erasure of Black artists’ contributions to country music. In contrast, rapper Post Malone made his first foray into country music this year and opted for a more mainstream country music sound, tapping Nashville giants to assist in his project. As one of the largest pop stars in the world, her career is not dependent on Nashville or the Country Music Association, which runs the CMA Awards. Neither Beyoncé nor the Country Music Association responded to a request for comment on the matter. The CMA Awards snub has opened up a dialogue about where the country music industry can go from here.

Following Donald Trump’s lead, Johnson has tied a six-month funding bill to the SAVE Act, which would overhaul voting laws to require people to show proof of citizenship when registering to vote. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., Democrats and some Republicans are pushing for a “clean” funding bill that would keep the government open until December, after the election. The government will shut down at 12:01 a.m. on Oct. 1 unless Republicans and Democrats strike a deal to extend funding. Because of their miniscule majority, House Republicans can only afford four GOP defections if all lawmakers vote. “I’m a firm NO on bankrupting the nation and a YES on election integrity,” Mills said.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Opening statements were expected Wednesday in the federal trial of three former Memphis police officers charged with federal civil rights violations in the January 2023 beating death of Tyre Nichols. Police video released that month showed the five officers, who also are Black, beating Nichols as he yelled for his mother about a block from his home. The officers said Nichols was pulled over for reckless driving, but Memphis’ police chief has said there is no evidence to substantiate that claim. The three officers now facing trial, along with Martin and Mills, were fired for violating Memphis Police Department policies. They had been members of a crime suppression team called the Scorpion Unit, which was disbanded after Nichols’ death.

Why are September and October historically weak for stocks? It is a byproduct of an old weakness in the U.S. financial system. The limited ability of the government to react was the primary impetus for the passage of the Federal Reserve Act of 1913. Yes, and if one compares the frequency, intensity and misery of financial panics during the 1800s, this is plainly evident. But, by and large, the U.S. financial system has been much more stable since the Federal Reserve became operational in late 1914.

Many traffic stops end without making headlines. But thanks to the ubiquity of cameras, the traffic stop in recent years has become the setting for many high-profile incidents between officers and motorists. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler was arrested by officers directing traffic outside the PGA Championship after a fatal accident. And this week, three former Memphis, Tennessee, officers went on trial for the fatal 2023beating of Tyre Nichols, which also followed a traffic stop. ‘De-escalation is key’The tenor of a traffic stop usually begins with the reason it was initiated in the first place, said Ramsey.

WASHINGTON — House Speaker Mike Johnson’s strategy to tie a short-term government funding bill to a Donald Trump-backed proposal to overhaul voting laws was on life support Monday after a band of conservative rebels vowed to vote no on the package. Without a stopgap funding bill, money will run out and the federal government will shut down at the end of the month. Because of the GOP’s razor-thin majority, Johnson, R-La., can afford only four Republican defections if all members vote. Mills slammed Johnson's strategy as a “farce” and said it would do nothing to secure the southern border. Instead, they are pushing for a "clean CR" — short-term funding with nothing attached to it.

This fuel is set to power the next generation of America’s nuclear reactors — small, modular power stations that are easier and cheaper to build. They require far less upkeep and physical space than the aging fleet of large nuclear power plants. “In order to meet our energy security needs and our climate goals, we do need significantly more nuclear energy deployed.”The nuclear power industry is increasingly looking to smaller reactors, which run on HALEU. Washington CNN —Former President Donald Trump and Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. JD Vance continue to falsely describe how one of their major policy proposals, across-the-board tariffs, would work. Trump has falsely, and repeatedly, claimed that China – not US importers – pay the tariff. Facts First: Trump and Vance’s claims about how tariffs work are false. Together, the price increases cost consumers more than $1.5 billion during the first year the tariffs were in place. It’s true that after Trump imposed tariffs on foreign-made steel, some American steel companies reopened mills and created new jobs.

In mid-December 2005, back when U.S.-Russia relations remained on relatively friendly terms, a new media channel called Russia Today began broadcasting English-language news. “It’s a very good start,” Russian President Vladimir Putin was quoted as saying of Russia Today at the time.
