Tesla's Cybertruck isn't the kind of car that goes unnoticed. The Cybertruck isn't your average pickupMusk has been hyping up the Cybertruck since it was announced in 2019. AdvertisementFrom the start, it's been clear the Cybertruck isn't geared toward your traditional pickup truck market. But it's not exactly your typical luxury status car, eitherWhile the Cybertruck isn't a traditional pickup, it's not exactly a luxury car. The deal could close this month, said the sources, who asked not to be identified because the talks are ongoing and have not been finalized. Nissan would build its own electric pickup on the same platform, the source said. A Fisker spokesman said the company does not comment on speculation, while Nissan officials were not immediately available to comment. Fisker shares were off more than 43% on Friday, giving the company a market capitalization of about $222 million.

A Foundation series Cybertruck was sold at an auction for $244,500 on Wednesday — over $130,000 more than its sticker price. AdvertisementSince Tesla started deliveries of the Cybertruck on November 30, Give Me The Vin has received dozens of offers from Cybertruck owners, Wolfe said. It's not the first time Tesla owners have attempted to flip their cars. In 2022, some Tesla owners made up to $7,000 reselling their EVs. However, the resale market has been difficult for Tesla owners in recent years due to the company's recent series of price cuts.

"We don't comment on rumors," Kon told CNBC. Although Cohere is often mentioned alongside AI heavyweights like OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Microsoft , the startup's focus on enterprise-only chatbots has set it apart. In November, Cohere told CNBC it saw an uptick in customer interest after OpenAI's sudden and temporary ouster of CEO Sam Altman. Cohere's relationships with strategic investors are another area where it differs from generative AI competitors, Kon said. Reviews for the Tesla Cybertruck are positive — so far. The demand for Nvidia's AI chips could bolster job growth across the semiconductor industry. It could also help bring more semiconductor chip manufacturing stateside and reduce the US's reliance on Taiwan — which remains vulnerable to Chinese invasion that would wreak havoc on the global economy. AdvertisementEven without the AI boom, the semiconductor industry was already poised for big job gains in the near future. Of the 115,000 US new semiconductor jobs the Semiconductor Industry Association is projecting by 2030, it said roughly 67,000 of these positions risk going unfilled given current college degree completion rates. In an effort to prevent a worker shortage, community colleges and universities across the country have partnered with semiconductor companies.

Stocks of Hong Kong developers rose after Financial Secretary Paul Chan scrapped property cooling measures in a bid to bolster the sector, which has been weighed down by high borrowing costs and weak economic sentiment. Churchouse added that this could "be a bit of a positive flip" for the wider Hong Kong stock market as it is highly correlated with the residential property market. Hong Kong's stock markets have plunged around 40% from its highs a couple of years ago. Hong Kong's government is also rolling out over 1 billion Hong Kong dollars ($127 million) to support its tourism industry.

CNN —Toyota is recalling 381,000 Tacoma pickups because bolts in the rear axle could loosen and fall off, which could eventually allow part of the rear axle to detach. Oil might begin to leak from the truck’s rear differential underneath the vehicle, according to Toyota. Owners of recalled trucks will receive letters advising them to take their truck to a Toyota dealer to have the rear axle inspected and the nuts retightened if necessary. Toyota recently recalled 280,000 trucks and SUVs for a different issue that resulted in trucks “creeping” forward when put in neutral. Late last year, Toyota recalled 1 million vehicles for a sensor issue that could make airbags deploy when they shouldn’t.

More than 600,000 Toyota pickup trucks and SUVs in the United States were voluntarily recalled over the past week because of different issues that could increase the risk of crashes, the vehicle manufacturer said. The first announcement, on Feb. 21, stated that about 280,000 vehicles, including certain Toyota Tundra, Tundra Hybrid and Lexus LX600 vehicles from the model years 2022-2024 and Sequoia Hybrid vehicles issued from 2023-2024, were recalled because “certain parts of the transmission may not immediately disengage when the vehicle is shifted to the neutral position,” Toyota said in a statement. The defect “can allow some engine power to continue to be transferred to the wheels and can allow the vehicle to inadvertently creep forward at a low speed when it is on a flat surface and no brakes are applied, leading to an increased risk of a crash,” Toyota said. A defect information report posted on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administrations website said that affected vehicles could “inadvertently creep forward at a low speed (up to approximately 4 m.p.h.

But department stores, focused on America’s middle class, are fading. The victims of shifting consumer tastes were not the department stores that anchored the local mall, it was the small, locally owned stores along downtown shopping districts that were closing their doors. And possibly even more than the big box competitors, department stores have suffered from consumers shifting to buying items online rather than in person. The steady closing of the department stores that once served as “anchors” of malls across suburban America has been another nail in the coffin of many malls, hurting the department stores that remained in hollowed-out malls with a fraction of their earlier traffic. Saunders said one of the primary problem for Macy’s is that its holding company, formerly known as Federated Department Stores, spent much of its resources on buying other department store brands, such May’s Department Stores, and Filene’s, rather than investing in the stores its held.

Forget Tesla , the real competition in electric vehicles is low-cost Chinese automakers. Farley wants to be prepared even if the U.S. government were to step in to curtail Chinese automakers' access. Outlook Ford investors shouldn't be concerned in the short term since Chinese EV competitors won't enter the market overnight. To that end, a group of lawmakers has urged the White House to boost tariffs on Chinese vehicles and figure out a way to be "prepared to address the coming wave" of Chinese vehicles by way of U.S. other trading partners. The cost of production will become more efficient, resulting in a more competitive and hopefully profitable Ford EV product.

The Federal Reserve may have a housing problem. The persistence of housing inflation poses a problem for Fed officials as they consider when to roll back interest rates. Housing is by far the biggest monthly expense for most families, which means it weighs heavily on inflation calculations. “If you want to know where inflation is going, you need to know where housing inflation is going,” said Mark Franceski, managing director at Zelman & Associates, a housing research firm. Housing inflation, he added, “is not slowing at the rate that we expected or anyone expected.”Those expectations were based on private-sector data from real estate websites like Zillow and Apartment List and other private companies showing that rents have barely been rising recently and have been falling outright in some markets.

The Tesla Cybertruck is impressive and worrying

Even when I parked a rented Tesla Cybertruck next to a hot-pink McLaren supercar in a shopping center parking lot in California, the people in the McLaren couldn’t stop talking about the Cybertruck. Peter Valdes-Dapena/CNNThe Tesla Cybertruck looks like nothing else on the road. There’s a lot to like about the Cybertruck, but it also embodies a disturbing level of individual arrogance in hard, unforgiving steel. The Tesla Cybertruck's simple interior is nice enough but, with hardly any switches or knobs, this is the easy part.

Rivian's cash and cash equivalents were $7.86 billion at the end of the December quarter, compared with $7.94 billion in the preceding three-month period. However, revenue for the October-December period stood at $1.32 billion, above Wall Street estimates of $1.26 billion, according to LSEG data. Rivian has been posting a loss on every vehicle it sells and expects to record its first quarter of positive gross margin later this year. The company's R2 platform, which is expected to be cheaper and smaller, is set to be unveiled early next month. The company reported a net loss of $1.52 billion for the fourth quarter ended Dec. 31, compared with a loss of $1.72 billion a year earlier.

Thirty years ago, officials at the Federal Reserve were hotly debating whether the economy could continue to chug along so vigorously without spurring a pickup in inflation. And back in 1994, it turned out that it could, thanks to one key ingredient: productivity. Now, official productivity data are showing a big pickup for the first time in years. If the answer is yes, it would have huge implications for the U.S. economy. And a steady pickup in productivity could allow the economy to take off in a healthy way.

CNN —Rivian announced Wednesday that it will lay off 10% of its salaried workers beginning Thursday morning, amid a quarterly loss and an increasingly competitive EV market. Rivian has a total of 16,700 employees but would not disclose how many of those are considered salaried employees. Rivian has previously, on two different occasions, laid off 6% of its workforce, as the company has looked to reduce its losses. Sales of electric vehicles has not expanded as rapidly in the past year as it had before, and automakers have blamed high interest rates for some of that slow-down. Scaringe boasted that Rivian produced the best-selling electric vehicle over $70,000 last year.

Ford Motor Co on Tuesday said it had cut prices on its Mustang Mach-E electric SUV by up to $8,100 after sales fell sharply in January. The Dearborn, Michigan-based automaker said U.S. sales of the Mach-E fell by 51% in January to 1,295. Ford and other legacy automakers have slowed their EV push to instead focus on higher-margin hybrid and gas-powered models. Ford said in January it would reduce production of its F-150 Lightning pickup truck, cutting production at its Michigan Rouge Electric Vehicle Center to one shift starting April 1.
