The S & P 500 is a mere 1.2% from its all-time high, yet only 60% of its member stocks are up for the year and just over 40% last week were above their 50-day moving average. .SPX YTD mountain S & P 500, 1-year We seem to undergo one of these periods of decrying a lack of market breadth every few months in recent years. Bespoke Investment Group last week looked at the small number of past instances when the S & P 500 was so close to a record yet most stocks were beneath a 50-day average. The 100-day correlation between the S & P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average has hit its lowest level since the dot-com bust of the early 2000s, according to CNBC's Data & Analytics group. The S & P 500 at the highs hit 21-times forward earnings, and we've spent very little time above that outside the pandemic melt-up and the tech boom/bust a quarter-century ago.

CNN —Women who closely followed a Mediterranean diet lived much longer than those who did not, according to a new study that followed more than 25,000 women for 25 years. “In this study, adherence to the Mediterranean diet was a proxy for diet quality. Each increase in the adherence to the Mediterranean diet extended life for women, the new study found. In all that data, however, are few details on the specific ways the Mediterranean diet may affect women, especially long-term. “What might be worth noting is that the adherence measure ‘corrects’ for distortions of the Mediterranean diet,” Katz said.

“Our research approach is community science,” Lohi, who was corresponding author on the study, told CNN. Researchers dubbed the cats' unusual coat coloring as salmiak, or “salty licorice,” after a popular Finnish candy. Now that salty licorice cats are officially a thing, could they become the next designer breed? “It is possible that breeders will choose to develop a population of salty licorice cats,” Lohi said. “However, the health of the salty licorice cats should be followed in more detail to confirm the absence of any color-related health issues.” Tailored genetic testing could be used to ensure the cats are bred without passing on dangerous genes.

I lost my hair. Then I found myself.

For more than a year, I had been dealing with my progressive hair loss and clamoring for some sort of control. I launched into the story of my hair loss journey, attempting to convey the stress and uncertainty that had defined the past year. I purchased a long brown human hair wig that initially looked natural in the shop lighting. I learned I had a lot to learn; there was a whole "wearing hair" subculture with special lingo that I knew nothing about. I accepted that I have hair loss and I'm aging, and one day, I'll look in the mirror, and it won't be just my hair that's changed.

What do the charts say after this sudden 20% drop in price? After making a new all-time high of around $318 in early March, Salesforce demonstrated choppy, sideways price action into mid-April. A gap lower in price pushed CRM below its 50-day moving average, which often serves as an early warning sign of an impending trend change. From mid-April until this week, Salesforce has again settled into a sideways price range, this time between $268 and $290. While CRM was in a somewhat precarious position leading into this week, the gap lower post-earnings represented a sudden revaluation for this former technology leader.

CNN —A Manhattan jury found Donald Trump guilty of all 34 charges of falsifying business records Thursday, an unprecedented and historic verdict that makes Trump the first former president in American history to be convicted of a felony. And if he defeats President Joe Biden in November, he will be the first sitting president in history to be a convicted felon. The verdict in the hush money trial was announced after jurors deliberated for nearly 12 hours over two days. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg speaks to the media after a jury found former President Donald Trump guilty on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, on Thursday, May 30, in New York. “There’s only one way to keep Donald Trump out of the Oval Office: At the ballot box,” Biden wrote on X, linking to a fundraising page.

NEW YORK — New York Federal Reserve President John Williams on Thursday said inflation is still too high but he is confident it will start decelerating later this year. With markets on edge over the direction of monetary policy, Williams offered no clear signs on where he is leaning as far as possible interest rate cuts go. Williams called policy "well-positioned" and "restrictive" and said it is helping the Fed achieve its goals. But higher than expected inflation readings have altered that landscape dramatically, and current pricing is pointing to just one decrease, probably in November. Williams said he expects PCE inflation to drift down to 2.5% this year on its way back to 2% in 2026.

You might think being hard on yourself after a professional or personal faux pas will help you to not make that same mistake in the future. Oftentimes this isn't the case, though, says Judy Ho, a neuropsychologist and professor at Pepperdine University. New York Times bestselling author and a professor at The University of Houston, Brené Brown echoes the sentiment that being excessive self-scrutiny doesn't make you stronger. "The core of mental toughness is actually self-compassion," Brown said on her podcast "Unlocking Us" in 2022. "People who are mentally tough stay mentally tough because they don't slip easily into shame or self-criticism or self-loathing."

From the closing low in May 2023 to its recent closing high on April 5, it gained a whopping 109%. However, when the stock finally emerged from that condition a year ago, demand resurfaced, and the strong advance commenced. The bombs used in the Israeli strike that killed dozens of Palestinians in a camp for displaced people near Rafah on Sunday were made in the United States, according to weapons experts and visual evidence reviewed by The New York Times. U.S. officials have been encouraging the Israeli military for months to increase the use of GBU-39 bombs in Gaza because they are generally more precise and better suited to urban environments than larger bombs, including U.S.-made 2,000-pound bombs that Israel routinely uses. “This is the smallest munition that our jets can use.”In response to questions from The Times, the Israeli military declined to specify the munition used. NEW YORK CNN —A Manhattan prosecutor said Wednesday a new indictment against Harvey Weinstein is possible as additional accusers have come forward with claims against the powerful Hollywood producer whose downfall became a symbol of the #MeToo movement. That trial similarly used “prior bad acts” witnesses and has also been appealed. In addition, three other women testified at trial as “prior bad acts” witnesses. They argued the “prior bad acts” witnesses should not have been allowed to testify and the court should not have given prosecutors the ability to question Weinstein about instances of verbal abuse and bullying on cross-examination. In sexual assault cases, their testimony can turn a difficult “he said, she said” case into a more convincing “he said, they said” case.

The bombs used in the Israeli strike that killed dozens of Palestinians in a camp for displaced people near Rafah on Sunday were made in the United States, according to weapons experts and visual evidence reviewed by The New York Times. Munition debris filmed at the strike location the next day was remnants from a GBU-39, a bomb designed and manufactured in the United States, The Times found. U.S. officials have been pushing Israel to use more of this type of bomb, which they say can reduce civilian casualties. The key detail in the weapon debris was the tail actuation system, which controls the fins that guide the GBU-39 to a target, according to Trevor Ball, a former U.S. Army explosive ordnance disposal technician, who earlier identified the weapon on X. The weapon’s unique bolt pattern and slot where the folding fins are stowed were clearly visible in the debris, Mr. Ball said.
