He's one of the country's "grumpy stayers": workers who are reluctantly staying put in a cooling labor market. Grumpy stayers are in some ways the next iteration of quiet quitters, rattled by layoffs and fewer opportunities. In other words, grumpy stayers might be feeling left behind, with salaries lagging behind those of their peers who've departed. No room for improvementA theme across grumpy stayers is that they don't want to be grumpy, but work conditions make them that way. One solution, she said, would be for companies to engage with their grumpy stayers and lean more on their expertise to solve problems.

"The oil market is starting to slowly price in a looming supply crunch," Price Futures Group analyst Phil Flynn said. "Global supplies are starting to tighten and that could accelerate dramatically in the coming weeks. A shutdown of the grain corridor could hit supplies of ethanol and biofuels that are blended with oil products at a time that global grain markets are already tightening, which would lead to refiners using more crude oil, Flynn said. Meanwhile, U.S. energy firms this week reduced the number of oil rigs by seven, their biggest cut since early June, energy services firm Baker Hughes said. At 530, the U.S. oil rig count, an early indicator of future output, is at its lowest since March 2022.

Brent crude futures rose $1.43, or 1.8%, to settle at $81.07 a barrel. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures rose $1.42, or 1.9%, to settle at $77.07 a barrel, the highest since April 25. "The oil market is starting to slowly price in a looming supply crunch as it is on track for its fourth week of price gains," Price Futures Group analyst Phil Flynn said. In the U.S., crude inventories (USOILC=ECI) have fallen, amid a jump in crude exports and higher refinery utilisation, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) said on Wednesday. July 20 (Reuters) - Under-pressure Red Bull driver Sergio Perez shrugged off the threat of Daniel Ricciardo's return to the Formula One grid at the Hungarian Grand Prix, saying on Thursday it changed nothing for him. "From my side it doesn't change anything because I drive for Red Bull," he added. It's (AlphaTauri's Japanese driver) Yuki (Tsunoda), it's more than half of the grid would like to drive for Red Bull. Perez won two of the season's first four races and had challenged Verstappen for the overall lead before the Dutch driver powered away. Red Bull boss Christian Horner said this week that the team planned to keep an unchanged lineup in 2024.

Victims of Cyberattack on File-Transfer Tool Pile Up

The list of companies hit by a cyberattack on a widely used software tool continues to expand and several victims have filed lawsuits alleging mishandling of data. The continued disclosure of new victims affected by hackers exploiting a vulnerability in MoveIt, a common file-transfer tool from Progress Software, underscores how cyberattacks can ripple through supply chains. Some companies have been drawn into data breaches without having used MoveIt because their business partners use it. The Cl0p ransomware group has taken responsibility for the cyberattacks and posted data from some victims on its underground website. A 2021 cyberattack on a tool similar to MoveIt—Accellion’s File Transfer Appliance—had similar ripple effects.

The water temperature near Key Biscayne, a barrier island just east of Miami, had already passed 89 degrees one morning this week. And though the ocean off South Florida was slightly cooler than the recent record highs that had stunned scientists and threatened marine life, it remained phenomenally hot. But on this serene patch of the Atlantic Coast, it was still a summer day at the beach, when nothing satisfies quite like a dip — even when the ocean feels like a thick, simmering syrup. “I like it warm,” shrugged Niki Candela, 20, a Miami native, moments after a powerful siren warned of approaching lightning. The shallow water was a crystalline teal, rolling oh so gently, not a cresting wave in sight.

July 14 (Reuters) - Citigroup's (C.N) profit tumbled 36% in the second quarter as weakness in the Wall Street bank's trading business blunted gains from its personal banking and wealth management unit. Wall Street traders have hit a rough patch, joining investment bankers whose businesses have been weighed down for months by a slump in dealmaking. While its Wall Street operations dragged, the lender's consumer business helped partly offset some of the weakness. Revenue from its personal banking and wealth management division climbed 6% to $6.4 billion, including an 8% gain for branded cards to $2.4 billion. Net income sank to $2.92 billion, or $1.33 per share, in the three months to June 30, the bank reported on Friday.

Detroit automakers, like their global counterparts, have been focused on cost reductions, which in some cases include job cuts, to help accelerate a shift to electric vehicles (EVs) from gasoline-powered vehicles. Contract talks between the UAW and the Detroit automakers have gone on until the strike deadline and beyond in past years. "To win, we're likely going to have to take action," UAW Fain said on Wednesday. The Detroit Three want to close the cost gap they have with foreign automakers with non-unionized U.S. factories. Medvedev weathers Eubanks storm to reach semis

Medvedev clung on stubbornly, however, and as the fire in the Eubanks racket began to fade he took charge to reach the semi-finals at the grasscourt slam for the first time. Eubanks used his sledgehammer forehand to break the Medvedev serve to lead 3-1 in the second set -- beaming broadly and imploring the crowd for more noise. Medvedev looked bewildered and out of ideas as Eubanks kept swinging for the hills, landing blow after blow. Medvedev looked close to boiling point as he whacked a ball dangerously close to the fans, argued with umpire Damien Dumusois and received a warning. Eubanks cut a dejected figure in the deciding set as his dream faded away and the end came quickly.

But many species of these aquatic apex predators are now in danger of dying out forever. Of the thousand known species of sharks and rays (sharks’ closest living relatives), over a third of them are at risk of extinction. And since sharks are “indicators of ocean health,” as sharks go, so does the delicate balance of marine ecosystems. A 2021 report showed over the last 50 years, global shark and ray populations have fallen more than 70%. The overhaul would require the largest banks to increase their holdings of capital — cash and other readily available assets that can be used to absorb losses in times of trouble. Mr. Barr predicted that his tweaks would be “equivalent to requiring the largest banks hold an additional two percentage points of capital,” if they are implemented. “The beauty of capital is that it doesn’t care about the source of the loss,” Mr. Barr said in his speech previewing the proposed changes. If the Fed Board votes to institute them, their implementations will involve transition time. But the sweeping set of changes that he set out meaningfully tweak both how banks police their own risks and are overseen by government regulators.
