A survey of North American family offices conducted by Campden Wealth and RBC found that family offices had 29.2% of their investments in private markets, which include private equity, venture capital and private debt, compared to 28.5% in publicly traded stocks. It marks the first time in the survey that family offices had more invested in private markets than public stock. "Family offices have maintained a consistent pattern of augmenting their allocations to private markets," according to the study. Family offices say private markets offer better returns over the long term without the volatility of stocks. Along with private markets, family offices are also showing increasing interest in alternative assets, including real estate and commodities.

"It is not a coincidence that the launch of ChatGPT at the end of last year coincides with the timeframe in which we saw exponential growth of malicious phishing emails," Harr said. On average, 31,000 phishing attacks were sent on a daily basis, according to the research. Since the fourth quarter of 2022, there's been a 1,265% increase in malicious phishing emails , and a 967% rise in credential phishing in particular, according to a new report by cybersecurity firm SlashNext. Another reason for such a high increase in phishing attacks is because they are working, Harr said. Another good practice is to implement email filtering tools that use machine learning and AI to detect and block phishing emails.

From October 2022 to October of this year, total vehicle market share for hybrids grew from 6.5% to 11.4%, according to data from Edmunds. Over the same time period, EV market share growth was more sluggish, expanding from 6% to 7.5%. Toyota 's 2024 Prius, often called the "gold standard" in hybrid vehicles, was named MotorTrend's car of the year. The uptick in hybrid sales won't likely spell doom and gloom for the EV market over the long-term.

Electric vehicle sales are expected to hit a record 9% of all passenger vehicles in the U.S. this year, according to Atlas Public Policy. That will be up from 7.3% of new car sales in 2022. The deal to acquire investment firm Carlyle's (CG.O) 28% holding in the burger chain's China business, which also includes its stores in Hong Kong and Macau, will see McDonald's stake rise to 48%.
