Atlanta police on Tuesday continued to search for two robbers captured on video dropping into a check cashing store from the ceiling and grabbing stacks of cash from a safe. The images appear to be taken from the security video. The department also released some of that morning's video, captured from inside the store as its ceiling was breached and including the robbers' exit. A robber falls through the ceiling of a check cashing business in southwest Atlanta on Sept. 3. They fled out the rear portal, and video captured a woman walking by just after the door was opened.

SAN DIEGO — The Home Depot agreed to a nearly $2 million settlement in a case that alleged it overcharged customers, charging more for items at checkout than the items' advertised prices. In an emailed statement responding to a request for comment about the settlement, Home Depot said, “To ensure consistency for our customers, we’ve updated the timing of our price changes." The settlement includes $1.7 million to be divided among the district attorneys' offices of Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange, Alameda, San Bernardino and Sonoma counties for consumer law enforcement. "This settlement is a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated and underscores our commitment to safeguarding the rights of consumers in our community," Gascón said. Home Depot, based in Atlanta, reported in a proxy statement in May that it earned nearly $22 billion in operating profit for the 2023 fiscal year.

A Virginia man was indicted in the killing last year of his wife and another man, officials said Monday, nearly a year after the couple’s au pair was charged in connection with the double homicide. Police escort Brendan Banfield in Virginia. The Banfields' au pair, Juliana Peres Magalhaes, was charged in October in Ryan's killing. Brendan Banfield then took the phone and told a dispatcher that an "unknown male" had entered his home and shot them, the official said, referring to Brendan Banfield only as the victim's husband. Brendan Banfield was called to testify at a court hearing this year but mostly invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination when prosecutors questioned him, NBC Washington reported.

In May 2000, the group managed to drive Israel out of southern Lebanon after a grueling guerilla conflict. On the evening of July 30, an Israeli drone fired two missiles into a residential building in southern Beirut, killing senior Hezbollah commander Fu’ad Shukr. Taken together, the missile attack and the exploding devices represent a dramatic infiltration by Israel of Hezbollah’s critical command and control networks. Israel denied any important targets were struck and no evidence has been made public to contradict that denial. Israel is no longer willing to tolerate the slow-burn war on its northern border and is resorting to ever more extreme and potentially escalatory measures.

The fact no details about the operation were given meant US officials were in the dark until reports of hundreds of exploding pagers emerged a short time later, the sources said. Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon was injured by the exploding pagers, according to Iranian state media. The notification from Israel was far more generic and vague, leaving US officials with questions about what the operation could be, the sources said. Since Hamas’ October 7 attack, Israel has regularly carried out strikes in Lebanon in response to the launch of Hezbollah drones and missiles. The breadth of Israeli operations in Lebanon over the past 11 months added to the questions about what Israel could be planning.

Read previewThe simultaneous detonation of thousands of pagers in Lebanon on Tuesday is a harbinger of a darker and more dangerous age of individualized attacks, according to a retired general and warfare strategist. The pagers were ordered by Hezbollah and were tampered with before they reached Lebanon, some of the officials said. "This is yet another demonstration that individuals are increasingly vulnerable to highly precise and personalized attacks," he said. Related storiesRyan cited the use of armed first-person-view drones on the battlefields in Ukraine and Russia, which he said showed the use of lethal personalized attacks had escalated in the past two years. He said the pager attack on Hezbollah "opens a dangerous Pandora's box" and makes almost everyone a "walking ticking bomb."

Mortgage rates came down again last week, and with the expectation that they could fall further, mortgage demand suddenly jumped, especially for refinancing. The Federal Reserve is expected to make its first interest rate cut in four years on Wednesday, and while mortgage rates don't follow the Fed exactly, they are influenced by policy. "The most important takeaway is that lower mortgage rates are not only not remotely guaranteed by [the] Fed rate cut. Even with this large jump in volume, it is coming off a very low base, as the vast majority of borrowers have loans with interest rates well below 5%. "Homebuyers are seeing improving affordability conditions, sparked by lower rates and slower home-price growth."

It was against this backdrop that the idea for “Venezuela Retweets” formed, explained “Roberto,” the managing editor of a digital publication in Caracus that is part of the collective behind it. An AI generated presenter known as "The Girl" is one of Venezuela's latest news anchors. This is where the format of Venezuela Retweets comes into its own, as it is designed specifically to be shared on social media. CNN —The International Brotherhood of Teamsters declined to endorse a presidential candidate on Wednesday after releasing internal polling that showed a majority of its members supported former President Donald Trump over Vice President Kamala Harris. The Trump campaign highlighted that support from “rank-and-file” Teamsters members following the union’s announcement that it would not be endorsing. CNN previously reported that rank-and-file union membership had large pockets of Trump support, even as major labor leaders endorsed Harris. That survey also included Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who garnered about 6% of members’ support. While union members are thought of as a traditionally Democratic voting bloc, Trump has been working to make inroads among rank-and-file members.

The Federal Reserve is expected to make its first cut to interest rates on Wednesday after more than two years of tight monetary policy. That is up from 4.29% during the week of March 11, 2022, just prior to the Fed kicking off its first hike. Home equity loans have also become more expensive, with rates rising to 8.49% as of last week, compared to 5.96% back in March 2022, according to Bankrate. The Fed's tight policy has provided a silver lining to savers, however. The annual percentage yield on a five-year certificate of deposit has jumped to 2.87%, up from 0.5% in March 2022, according to Haver.

The news from Bloomberg that billionaire Point72 founder and legendary stockpicker Steve Cohen will no longer trade his book for the $35 billion fund Tuesday is paradoxically both shocking and expected. Of the big multi-strategy managers, the fact Cohen was still managing a book set him apart from his main competitors. Will there be another Steve Cohen? Cohen launched SAC with $20 million in 1992; new funds today need exponentially more to justify leaving seats at funds like Point72. Fictional hedge fund manager Bobby Axelrod, played by Damian Lewis, was loosely based on Steve Cohen.

Musk’s own post has been earmarked with a crowd-sourced “community notes” fact-check that makes clear the claim was false. X did not respond to a CNN request for comment Wednesday on Musk’s posts.
