“We implore voters and members of the media to allow election officials to do their work.” The process is painstaking. In New Hanover, students allegedly were harassed while walking to class from a voting site, and an observer allegedly “angrily” confronted an election official, the board reported. “There are 8,800 election jurisdictions and we see issues pop up every election day,” the official said, citing low-level cyberattacks against election websites or accidental website outages as potential examples. Karamo sued Detroit City Clerk Janice Winfrey last week to toss absentee ballots unless voters present identification, alleging election law violations regarding the counting of the ballots.
Democrats sued Monday demanding that undated or incorrectly dated mail-in ballots be counted in Pennsylvania's election, which could end up determining which party controls the Senate. The lawsuit, filed in part by Democratic Senate candidate John Fetterman's campaign, argues that a provision in state law requiring that mail-in ballots include the date on the outside of the envelopes violates federal law. Civil rights groups, including the American Civil Liberties Union and the NAACP, filed a similar complaint Friday against state election officials. The U.S. Supreme Court cleared the way in June for election officials in Pennsylvania to count undated mail-in ballots. The justices ruled that undated ballots in a state race last year should be counted.
Trump suggested without evidence that a "large" amount of absentee voter fraud was underway in Detroit. He also urged people to "Protest, Protest, Protest!" Shortly after, Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson corrected the record and accused Trump of spreading lies to incite violence. Protest, Protest, Protest!" Shortly after Trump made the post, Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, whose office oversees election administration in the state, corrected the record and suggested Trump was inciting violence.
A Michigan judge has thrown out a GOP lawsuit aimed at blocking mail-in ballots. The lawsuit was filed by Kristina Karamo, a Republican candidate for secretary of state. Karamo failed to show that Detroit's absentee voting system violates the law, the judge said. As with previous claims about voter fraud, the lawsuit over Detroit's absentee voting measures fell apart in court. "Plaintiffs' failure to produce any evidence that the procedures for this November 8th election violate state or federal election law demonizes the Detroit City Clerk, her office, and the 1,200 volunteers working the election," the judge wrote, per CNN's Daniel Dale.

In another opening statement Thursday, a defense lawyer for Oath Keepers member Kelly Meggs argued that the group was providing security on January 6. "The testimony in this case will show the Oath Keepers chose community involvement, disaster recovery, security, personal security," Woodward said.

But inside the walls at Ware, one of the state’s largest juvenile detention facilities, children have been trying to kill themselves with stunning regularity. In Louisiana, where brutal conditions prompted juvenile justice reform two decades ago, the system is again in crisis. Most Ware guards are Black, as well, though nearly all of its leaders are white, as are the local judge, sheriff and district attorney. “Of course, they still do.” In reports to the state, Ware’s nurses described carpet burns on children’s faces and head-to-toe bruises from restraints. In fact, of the four guards convicted of sexually assaulting children at Ware, Mr. Peace would be the only one imprisoned.

The involvement of the previously unnamed financial backers of Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) – parent company of social media app Truth Social – shows how Trump tapped his political supporters to launch an outlet aimed at political conservatives and libertarians after he was banned from Twitter and Facebook following the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on Congress. TMTG launched Truth Social in February in the Apple App Store and in Google’s Play Store in October. The Houston Astros celebrate winning the American League Championship Series to advance to the World Series at Yankee Stadium on Oct. 23. In 1979 alone, Willie Stargell and Dave Parker were among 10 Black players on the “We Are Family” Pittsburgh Pirates champions. “It’s been a story that’s been ongoing since the late 1980s, the decline of Black baseball players,” he said. Hall wasn’t on the Phillies’ roster for any of the first three rounds this postseason and isn’t expected to be on the World Series roster. Many Afro Latino players embrace Black identity, yet perhaps not for the same reasons that Black U.S. players do.
Young hired his first employees once the business started to grow and gain more customers. That same year, he moved to Phoenix, where he now operates a second location, and generated more than $125,000 in annual revenue, Insider previously reported. Last year, his business generated more than $151,000 in revenue, which Insider verified with documentation. When you know it's time to hireWhen I started my business in March 2020, I knew I didn't want to be an owner-operator. So hiring employees is a learning experience, not just in how to lead them and manage them but also in how to fully trust them to do a good job and to relinquish that control.

Some of Alaska Rep. Don Young's former staffers are backing Rep. Mary Peltola, a Democrat. They say she'll carry on the long-serving Republican's legacy better than Sarah Palin or Nick Begich. Sarah Palin in a special election for the state's sole House seat, Democratic Rep. Mary Peltola is about to face voters once more. Equally revealing is what some staffers, who generally identify as Republican or right-leaning independents, had to say about Palin and Nick Begich III, Peltola's conservative opponents. But Young staffers noted that the long-serving Republican often took positions that clashed with the priorities of party leadership, including his relatively high support among organized labor.

Kenny Walker, the boyfriend of Breonna Taylor, has opened up in an emotional interview about the stunning moment he learned she had been killed by police. While executing a drug search warrant at Taylor’s apartment in Louisville, officers opened fire after Walker, believing an intruder was trying to break in, fired a gun toward the door. In August, four former Louisville police officers were federally charged with violating Taylor’s civil rights in the raid that led to her death. Former detective Joshua Jaynes, who obtained the search warrant, is accused of misleading investigators probing the shooting, NBC News reported in August. “The federal charges announced today allege that members of the Place-Based Investigations unit falsified the affidavit used to obtain the search warrant of Ms. Taylor’s home,” Garland said.
