Jefferies analysts said in a note Friday that the conclusion of the regulatory process was a "positive" for the company, which "highlights this is a new start and ensures compliance in operations." Ant Group itself also underwent a regulator-supervised rectification process, with most of the major issues resolved by last year. Regulatory concerns have been an overhang on the Alibaba stock, which has fallen more than 70% from its peak in 2020.

But in the new indictment, it's Trump the 2020 presidential candidate, not Trump the former president, who is charged. Airwallex, which was most recently valued at $5.6 billion and is backed by Tencent, has been tipped as one of many prominent fintech IPO candidates. Tencent -backed payments startup Airwallex has reached an annual revenue run rate of $500 million and will look to get ready for an initial public offering by 2026, CEO and co-founder Jack Zhang told CNBC in an exclusive interview. In the Americas region, Airwallex grew its revenue by more than 300% year-over-year, according to figures shared with CNBC. The U.K., Europe, and North America now account for more than 35% of Airwallex's overall transaction volumes, Zhang said. "In 2025, we will prepare everything, and we can decide what to do after 2026," he added.

Oil prices climbed on Wednesday on estimates about shrinking U.S. crude and gasoline inventories as the market watched for a possible widening of the Middle Eastern war, which could curtail global oil supplies. U.S. crude oil and gasoline inventories were expected to have fallen last week, while distillate stocks rose, according to market sources, citing American Petroleum Institute data on Tuesday. Gasoline inventories eased by 3.69 million barrels, and distillates rose by 612,000 barrels. A broadening conflict in the region could affect crude supplies from Iran and neighboring producer countries, analysts said, tightening inventories and supporting prices. Keeping oil prices from moving even higher, the International Energy Agency (IEA), meanwhile, kept its 2024 global oil demand growth forecast unchanged on Tuesday but trimmed its 2025 estimate, citing the impact of a weakened Chinese economy on consumption.
