(AP) — The Alabama Senate voted Wednesday to put a politically appointed board in control of the Alabama Department of Archives and History, a change proposed after some lawmakers were upset about the department hosting a lecture on LGBTQ+ history. State senators also approved legislation that would allow local government officials to dismiss library board members they appointed if they become displeased with their performance. He said the change would ensure board members are responsive to elected officials. Board members are selected by a vote of the trustees and confirmed by the Alabama Senate. Elliott said existing state law gives city councils the ability to appoint library board members but currently gives no mechanism for removal.

CNN —While the 2024 presidential race seems set in stone as a rematch between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, it’s also true that things happen. New York CNN —The most famous – and arguably the best – Super Bowl ad in history, the Apple “1984” ad, was nearly killed by the company for whom it was made. But Apple’s board of directors hated the 1984 ad, according to some of the ad executives who worked on the campaign. They hated it so much, in fact, that they ordered the agency that made it, Chiat/Day, to sell off the time they had already purchased on that year’s Super Bowl, rather than run the ad. He said it also changed the way that companies thought about Super Bowl ads in the 40 years since it aired. Chiat/Day, the agency that created the ad people are still talking about 40 years later, was fired by Apple soon afterward.

CNN —A trio of endangered gray wolves were found dead in southern Oregon and federal officials are offering a $50,000 reward for information about their deaths. The reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest, criminal conviction or civil penalty assessment related to the animals’ deaths. Gray wolves that live in the western two-thirds of Oregon are a protected species because they are listed as endangered under the federal Endangered Species Act, according to the Fish and Wildlife Service. CNN has reached out to the US Fish and Wildlife Service for more information about the circumstances of the deaths. Anyone with information about the case should contact the federal agency or Oregon State Police, the service said.

Insurance companies represent a big opportunity for private equity firms, who invest with the accumulated premiums paid by millions of everyday Americans. It's not just insurance clients that benefit from AI to bring more transparency to the cloudy private credit market. With private credit, insurance firms can invest in a more diversified set of assets with greater yield (and, albeit risk) than public credit markets, like vanilla corporate bonds. And because insurance companies often have long-term horizons with their financial obligations to policyholders, they can invest in less-liquid asset classes, like private credit. But to win more insurance clients, Blackstone must compete with the likes of Apollo Global Management, Carlyle, and KKR, which have also been keen on insurance.

(AP) — A former top prosecutor for the city of Baltimore was convicted Tuesday on one count of mortgage fraud, concluding a lengthy criminal trial in which Marilyn Mosby testified she unwittingly made false statements on loan applications to buy two Florida vacation homes. The jury announced a split verdict Tuesday evening after deliberating most of the day, finding Mosby not guilty on a second mortgage fraud charge, The Baltimore Sun reported. Her mortgage fraud trial, which began in mid-January, was moved from Baltimore to Greenbelt, Maryland, over concerns potential jurors may have been biased by extensive media coverage of the case. Mosby’s failure to disclose that debt on her loan applications contributed to the mortgage fraud charges, according to prosecutors. In the perjury case, a different jury found Mosby lied about suffering financial losses so she could withdraw money from her retirement account.
