Some Democrats criticized Republicans following the assault on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband, accusing their colleagues across the aisle of failing to issue sufficient condemnations of violent rhetoric targeting lawmakers. Although a motive for the attack remains under investigation, several Democrats swiftly condemned Republicans after the assault, saying they have not done enough to address the issue of violence and threats against lawmakers. But some Democrats expressed worries about the rise of violent rhetoric that preceded the attack and accused Republicans of failing to take action to combat it. “Yesterday, a man sharing that member’s rhetoric tried to assassinate the Speaker and her spouse,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted Saturday. The memo also acknowledged an uptick in threats against lawmakers and the attack on Pelosi’s husband.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said if the GOP wins the House they may not be as forthcoming with Ukraine aid. His comments suggested bipartisan support for aiding Ukraine could be waning. "I think people are gonna be sitting in a recession and they're not going to write a blank check to Ukraine," McCarthy told Punchbowl News. Some saw the comments as a sign that the broad bipartisan support for aiding Ukraine could be waning. Kinzinger said he thought McCarthy's comments were intended to appeal to the extreme members of the Republican party.
Liza Lecher works out on her Peloton Tread+ treadmill on May 24, 2021 in Williamstown, New Jersey. Peloton agreed to extend a refund period for its recalled Tread+ for another year, the company and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission jointly announced Tuesday. Peloton recalled around 125,000 of its Tread+ machines and of its 1,050 Tread products. Following the recall, then CEO John Foley apologized for Peloton's inaction, and said it should have engaged with the Consumer Product Safety Commission's initial request for a recall more productively. The Tread+ was originally called the Tread, but was rebranded to prepare for the release of a less expensive version, which was then delayed by the recall.
Peloton will begin selling its bikes, treadmills and other products in Dick's Sporting Goods stores, marking the struggling fitness equipment maker's latest push to expand its customer base. The collaboration will make Dick's the first brick-and-mortar retailer outside of its namesake stores to carry Peloton equipment. The companies do not yet have a launch date, but said they are aiming to have Peloton products in more than 100 Dick's stores in time for the holiday shopping season. Dick's shoppers also will be able to order Peloton products online in stores for either delivery or pickup. Peloton and Dick's won't vary in its product pricing, although Dick's will not carry the recently announced $3,195 Peloton rowing machine, which is currently only available for preorder.
The DTC home-goods brand Caraway just raised $35 million in funding, the company told Insider. The DTC retailer announced a $35 million funding round on Wednesday to grow its product selection, head count, and overall retail presence. Being in stores also helps Caraway compete more effectively with other home brands, Nathan said. The brand's retail sales this year were up 300% through August compared to the same period in 2021. Caraway aims to keep its customer-acquisition spend low enough so that a customer's first purchase is profitable for the brand.

Peloton Interactive Inc. is on the hunt for its first chief marketing officer after Dara Treseder, the company’s global head of marketing, communications and memberships, announced that she was going to leave the fitness technology firm—joining a string of leaders to do so. She is set to join Autodesk, a design and manufacturing software business, as its chief marketing officer on Oct.14. Peloton is now seeking to hire its first ever chief marketing officer, a spokesman for the company said, following Ms. Treseder’s resignation, which was first reported by the New York Times. Peloton doesn’t plan to refill the commercial chief position, a move that, coupled with the CMO headhunt, signifies Mr. McCarthy’s vision to rewrite Peloton’s C-suite roles. Peloton global head of marketing Dara Treseder joined us in Cannes to discuss navigating the complicated conditions of 2022.

Footage from the video passes off stock images of Ukraine and Russia as the US, HuffPost reported. In a letter to House members, Minority Leader McCarthy also used a quote wrongly attributed to Lincoln, Daily Beast reported. Several images were created by Serg Grbanoff, a filmmaker based in Russia, HuffPost reported, who confirmed to the outlet the images were created in the Volgograd region of his home country. "Interesting how you guys aren't remotely interested on the issues facing the American people in the video," McCarthy spokesman Mark Bednar told HuffPost when asked about the stock footage. "Commitment is what transforms a promise into reality," the letter reads, attributing the quote to the nation's 16th president.
“What we’re going to roll out today is a commitment to America in Washington — not Washington, D.C., Washington County, Pennsylvania. It’s about you; it’s not about us,” McCarthy told a crowd at a metal sheet working plant in Monongahela, Pennsylvania, just outside Pittsburgh. Democrats “control the House, the Senate, the White House. They control the committees, they control the agencies … but they have no plan to fix all the problems they created,” McCarthy added. Commitment to America is reminiscent of Newt Gingrich’s Contract with America agenda, which in 1994 helped propel House Republicans into power for the first time in 40 years.
MONONGAHELA, Pa.—House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R., Calif.) laid out his vision for the Republicans if they win control of the House in the midterms, targeting Democrats’ plans to expand the Internal Revenue Service while also emphasizing cutting crime, lowering prices and giving parents more influence over their schools. “On that very first bill, we’re going to repeal 87,000 IRS agents. Our job is to work for you, not go after you,” said Mr. McCarthy, who is the favorite to become the House speaker if his party captures the majority.
In many instances, users switched over to it from Adobe products for those reasons. The fear is “not necessarily that it’s going to get worse, it’s that it’s just not going to get better anymore,” Mr. McCarthy said. Since last week, the social media site has become a popular forum for Figma users to voice their worries. If Figma price points approached some of the existing price points for Adobe products, “our costs would go through the roof,” said Mr. McCarthy. Both Adobe and Figma said that the strong community element is part of what made Figma so valuable and attractive to Adobe and they hope it can remain.

TORONTO, Aug 25 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Investors in Peloton Interactive (PTON.O) hardly ever know what kind of workout they’ve signed up for. Shares in the exercise-bike maker sank over 18% on Thursday morning after it posted a $1.2 billion net loss for the three months to June, about four times the deficit for the same period of 2021. The slide wiped out an equivalent percentage gain a day earlier after Peloton said it would begin selling its bikes and other accessories on Amazon.com (AMZN.O) in the United States. McCarthy isn’t sitting idle — roughly a third of the company’s quarterly loss was due to restructuring charges. Thursday’s slide shrinks Peloton’s enterprise value to just over $3 billion, after deducting roughly $500 million in net cash.

Kevin McCarthy ’s election as speaker on the 15th ballot early Saturday morning was a spectacle, and his concessions left him weaker than he would have been with unified support. Still, he isn’t the only speaker elected with only 216 votes—two fewer than a majority of a full 435-member House. The 1800 election ended in an Electoral College tie, sending the contest to the House. Six days and 36 ballots later, Jefferson prevailed over his running mate, Aaron Burr , who attempted to grab the White House with support from the Federalist opposition. So will Mr. McCarthy, though his path is harder.
