REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/IllustrationAug 2 (Reuters) - Payments firm PayPal Holdings (PYPL.O) forecast third-quarter revenue above estimates on Wednesday, expecting consumers to remain resilient in the face of a tough economy. PayPal expects third-quarter revenue at about $7.4 billion, above analysts' average estimate of $7.32 billion, according to Refinitiv data. The optimistic revenue forecast echoed results of card giants Mastercard (MA.N) and Visa (V.N), which posted a boost in quarterly profits on the back of strong consumer spending. PayPal's revenue jumped to $7.3 billion in the second quarter ended June 30, compared with $6.8 billion a year earlier. In May, PayPal cut its forecast for annual adjusted operating margin, a move that eclipsed its profit forecast raise.

Why do dogs bite? By 5 weeks, puppies are mouths with tails, and their teeth are sharp. This does not stop people from reacting with alarm at any sort of dog bite, often resorting to killing the dog. When we read about “biting” dogs, it is often assumed that they are biting aggressively, with intent to harm or kill. Some biting we could call “gentle biting” or “mouthing”: putting one’s mouth on a person, often when the dog is playing or excited.

Aug 1 (Reuters) - Gartner (IT.N) raised its annual profit forecast after beating quarterly earnings estimates on Tuesday, on steady demand for research and consulting services in a tough economy. A dominant player in the data and analytics market, Gartner expects its full-year adjusted earnings per share to be $10, compared with its prior forecast of $9.50. Gartner's mainstay research business saw a near 6% jump in revenue to $1.21 billion, while the consulting business reported an almost 5% rise to $126 million. Still, the company lowered its full-year revenue forecast by about $50 million to $5.85 billion, citing weakness in its non-subscription research business. On an adjusted basis, Gartner earned $2.85 per share in the three months to June 30, compared with analysts' estimate of $2.51 per share profit.

Elon Musk thinks turning X into an everything app like WeChat could make the company profitable. In fact, Musk gave us all some insight into what X might one day look like when he expressed his admiration for China's everything app, WeChat, last summer. Chief investment strategist Brian Belski said in a July 26 note to clients that "growth at a reasonable price" stocks should be key holdings of the riskier portion of an investment portfolio. The so-called "GARP" stocks tend to have characteristics of both growth and value factors. "We have found through our work that GARP strategies tend to perform much better over longer periods than singularly focused growth or value strategies," Belski wrote. BMO defines "GARP" stocks as those with forward-looking price-to-earnings and price-to-earnings-growth ratios below the median of the S & P 500, while projected earnings growth is greater than the median S & P 500 value. As optimism about the U.S. economy has improved, the gap between earnings growth expectations for GARP companies and the broader market has shrunk.

There are two likely scenarios: The Fed raises its fed funds rate, but Powell signals the inflation fight is far from over. Market rates are likely to shoot higher, benefiting a select group of stocks highlighted below, while causing the broader market to decline. In order to do this, we used the short-term bond fund, the iShares 1-3 Year Treasury Bond ETF, as our proxy for the bond market. Since rates increase when bond prices fall this gives us the stocks that could win today if rates increase. If rates move higher on the Fed, Primerica can charge higher rates for its insurance and financial products.

Elon Musk has rebranded Twitter as 'X,' using a new domain — X.com. This has caused issues in Indonesia, where users are unable to access X.com, per Al Jazeera. Elon Musk announced on Sunday that the domain X.com, which he previously used for PayPal, had started redirecting users to Twitter. The ministry told Al Jazeera that the X.com domain had previously been used by websites that did not adhere to the country's regulations against "negative" content. Aribowo Sasmito, the cofounder of MAFINDO, a fact-checking group, told Al Jazeera that he believes the website was blocked because it sounded like "XXX," a porn site.

When Musk bought Twitter late last year, he laid out a vision for an “everything” app called X, where users could communicate, shop, consume entertainment and more. Musk — who bought Twitter with a company called X Corp. — tweeted on Sunday that X.com now redirects to Twitter. Musk even told followers that tweets should instead be called “x’s.”On Sunday, CEO Linda Yaccarino seemed to confirm Musk’s vision for the company. Elon Musk has officially rebranded Twitter as "X," as he seeks to turn the platform into an "everything" app. And until Musk rolls out significant changes to the platform, observers of the company say ditching Twitter’s well-known brand is a risky move.
