LOS ANGELES (AP) — Ten of the top albums of the year, as chosen by Associated Press Music Writer Maria Sherman. Instead of embracing the antiquated practice of ranking very different albums against one another, we're celebrating the best next to the best. Leading the charge is Peso Pluma, whose third studio album, “Génesis,” became the highest-charting regional Mexican album of all time. “Hackney Diamonds,” The Rolling StonesPrior to “Hackney Diamonds,” the Rolling Stones hadn’t released an album of original material in 18 years. AP's Jocelyn Noveck put it best: This album is their best new work in decades — tight, focused, full of heart and swagger.

Origin’s largest shareholder, A$300 billion ($198.36 billion) pension fund AustralianSuper, has said it would reject the A$9.39 per share offer. "If the Brookfield consortium comes back with a hostile off-market offer, there could be upside to the share price." At the very end of another tiring duel with Zach Edey, the fifth-year guard was the last man standing — again. Buie scored seven of his 31 points in OT to help the Wildcats beat Edey and the top-ranked Boilermakers for the second straight season, winning 92-88 in the Big Ten opener for each school. Ty Berry also scored seven points in OT and finished with 21, and Ryan Langborg added 20. Edey had 35 points, 14 rebounds and three blocked shots, but Purdue (7-1, 0-1) had trouble with Northwestern's guards all night. Fletcher Loyer scored 17 points for Purdue, and Braden Smith had 12 points, nine assists and seven rebounds.

House Republicans on Friday demanded that Hunter Biden, the president’s son, sit for a closed-door deposition in their impeachment inquiry into his father, rejecting his request to testify only in public and suggesting he could face punishment if he did not agree to their terms. In a letter, Representatives James R. Comer of Kentucky, chairman of the Oversight Committee, and Jim Jordan of Ohio, chairman of the Judiciary Committee, said they looked forward to Mr. Biden appearing publicly “at the appropriate time.” But they said his request to skip a private deposition and go straight to testimony in an open session amounted to a “demand that he receive special treatment.”“The subpoenas Mr. Biden has received compel him to appear before the committees for a deposition,” they added. “They are not mere suggestions open to Mr. Biden’s interpretation or preference.”Mr. Comer has suggested that House Republicans could attempt to bring contempt of Congress charges against Mr. Biden if he did not comply with a congressional subpoena.

Moments after House members cast a historic vote to expel Representative George Santos of New York, Speaker Mike Johnson banged the gavel with a grim look on his face. “In light of the expulsion of the gentleman from New York, Mr. Santos, the whole number of the House is now 434,” he announced gravely to an uncommonly silent House chamber, looking down with a faint grimace. It made official what had been apparent in recent days — that many of his fellow Republicans had been willing to defy his wish to keep Mr. Santos, a serial fabulist, in Congress, and that Mr. Johnson and his party were now facing ever-more brutal political math. Their slim four-vote majority has dwindled to just three. That will make governing more difficult for Republicans, who have already had immense trouble corralling their fractious members to steer legislation through the closely divided House.

After months of congressional hand-wringing, Mr. Santos finally met his demise on Friday, after Republicans and Democrats each offered separate expulsion resolutions. The resulting debate on the House floor on Thursday captured the absurdity and unseemliness of Mr. Santos’s scandals. Mr. Santos is only the sixth member of the House to be expelled in the body’s history. Mr. Santos must still contend with the federal indictment in which prosecutors have accused him of multiple criminal schemes. (That company, Harbor City Capital, has been accused of operating a Ponzi scheme by the Securities and Exchange Commission, though Mr. Santos has not been implicated.)

Goldman Sachs believes Constellation Brands (STZ) has the potential to revive sales in its struggling Wine & Spirits division. It's not impossible, but we're more bullish on the company's core beer business. In the Goldman note, Herzog acknowledged that Wine & Spirits has, indeed, struggled. Management's emphasis on "driving shareholder returns reduces the risk of its underperforming Wine business," she added. We had been hoping to hear news about a breakup of its underperforming Wine & Spirits, which did not happen.

Anne Hathaway and Thomasin McKenzie Photo: neon‘Eileen” is about Eileen (Thomasin McKenzie), a young clerical worker at a juvenile penitentiary in 1960s Massachusetts. But the film, like the character, is besotted with someone else: Dr. Rebecca St. John, the new prison psychologist, fresh from Harvard and, as played by Anne Hathaway , a suave and sultry modern woman. “Some people, they’re the real people, like in a movie,” Eileen’s father says, no doubt summoning in his daughter’s mind a vision of Rebecca. “And other people, they’re just there.” We hardly need the next line to know who he’s talking about: “That’s you, Eileen.”Yet the narrative charts her transition, sparked by an act of violence, from a spectator of life to one of its decisive participants. The conclusion, grim and swift, makes the meaning of what preceded it wither slightly in the rear view, but there are some cinematic seductions along the way.

PinnedThe House of Representatives began a reinvigorated debate on Thursday on whether to expel Representative George Santos of New York, setting the stage for a vote that seems somewhat tilted against him. Whether Mr. Santos, 35, will be expelled is unclear, though he said on Thursday that he expected the vote would succeed. Mr. Santos held a news conference on Thursday morning in which he warned such a precedent would “haunt” lawmakers in the future. The committee’s Republican chairman introduced a motion to expel Mr. Santos, and a number of lawmakers who opposed previous attempts to remove him said that the committee’s report had swayed them to change their minds. Mr. Santos said on Thursday that the committee’s report was “littered with hyperbole” but again declined to address its specific findings.

Dutch translations of Omid Scobie's book "Endgame" have been pulled from shelves, reports say. Due to a publishing error, the book reportedly named a royal said to have made racist remarks. Author Omid Scobie told Dutch media he did not name anyone in any version of the book he wrote. Scobie's latest book, "Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy's Fight for Survival," explores the current state of the British monarchy and the dynamics between members of the royal family. "There's never been a version that I've produced that has names in it," Scobie told RTL Boulevard.

CNN —A mural painted by Banksy which first appeared not long after Britain voted to leave the European Union (EU) has been destroyed after the building it was painted on was knocked down. The mural, which adorned the Castle Amusements building, depicted a worker chipping away at one of the 12 yellow stars on the blue EU flag. Then, in 2019, the mural — which had become a tourist landmark in the town, a major gateway into the EU — disappeared overnight after being whitewashed. Now, despite attempts at potentially restoring the work, the building on which it was painted has been demolished as part of a wider regeneration project. Luke MacGregor/Bloomberg/Getty ImagesIn a detailed explanation of the project online, the council said it had not been involved in painting or covering up the mural.

House Democrats on Tuesday moved to force a vote this week on whether to expel Representative George Santos of New York from office, a strategic effort to prevent Republican leadership from slow-rolling any bid to push one of their own out of office. Since then, Republicans have debated whether to shield or expel Mr. Santos, aware that either path could come with grave costs. But the resolution from Democrats is privileged, meaning that Speaker Mike Johnson must address it within two days. Republicans could still move to table or postpone the vote, moves that would each require the support of a majority of the House. Those maneuvers would not rule out a vote on Mr. Guest’s resolution, however, if Republican leadership chooses to act on its own party’s motion to lessen the appearance of Democrats forcing the Republicans’ hand.

DENVER (AP) — Denver Broncos safety Kareem Jackson said he's flying to New York to meet with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Wednesday to get more clarity about his latest suspension and the way the league enforces its player safety rules. He's missed three games so far and will miss three more, costing him a total of $837,000 in lost wages. Previously, he's said he knows he's drawing extra scrutiny from the league for his spate of fouls. “So, hopefully something comes from this meeting — I don't think much will, because I don't even think they know," Jackson added. His hit of Dobbs upon his return on Nov. 19 didn't draw a flag but it did draw the league's ire again and resulted in his second suspension.

Mr. Comer quickly rejected the offer, insisting that Mr. Biden first speak to the Oversight panel behind closed doors, but said that he could still testify publicly down the road. “Hunter Biden is trying to play by his own rules instead of following the rules required of everyone else,” Mr. Comer said in a statement. “Our lawfully issued subpoena to Hunter Biden requires him to appear for a deposition on December 13. But those familiar with Hunter Biden’s strategy say his offer was designed to limit both of those risks. And by putting Mr. Comer in the position of rejecting an offer of public testimony, Mr. Biden’s team was able to signal that he feels he has nothing to hide.
