There's just one problem: they aren't allowed to make political posts, so they're being creative. As the 2024 US election unfolded, Googlers have taken to the company's internal message board — a meme generator named Memegen — to express their feelings. One of the top Memegen posts on Wednesday was a picture of a fake newspaper named "The Memegen," with the headline, "Nothing Happened. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., attends a news conference after a lunch meeting with Senate Republicans on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., on Feb. 1, 2022. Republicans are expected to regain majority control of the U.S. Senate in 2025, according to NBC News. Democrats entered Tuesday's elections with 47 seats out of 100 in the Senate. But the four independents in the chamber caucus with Democrats, giving the party a one-seat majority. Republicans arguably faced an easier path to regaining a Senate majority this election cycle, and are set to have at least 51 seats in the chamber in January, when members of Congress are sworn in.

With his comeback victory over Vice President Kamala Harris in the books, Trump can rest easy. But he has not yet escaped from liability in a handful of high-profile civil cases, where he has been ordered to pay combined penalties of over $570 million. "In theory, there should be no effect" from Trump's election on those civil matters, former federal prosecutor Neama Rahmani told CNBC. "It's well established that while a sitting president can't be prosecuted, he can face civil cases," Rahmani said. Markets: The post-election rally on Wall Street continued into afternoon trading, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average jumping 3.4%, or roughly 1,450 points, and the S & P 500 advancing 2.4%. It's worth noting, the stock market was reacting like Jim Cramer said it would in his Sunday column . The one thing markets hate is uncertainty, and Wednesday's rally can be attributed, in part, to relief that Wall Street professionals and individual investors alike know where they stand and what to expect from the country's next president. Bond yields move inversely to prices, and a basis point is equal to 0.01%. "You have to be very careful to respect the bond market if you do any buying today," Jim said.

Andrew Bret Wallis | The Image Bank | Getty ImagesAfter a spouse dies, some retirees face a costly surprise — higher taxes. The shift from married filing jointly to single on future tax returns can trigger a "survivor's penalty," depending on whether your income changes. After that, older survivors typically use the "single" filing status, which may have higher tax rates, with narrower tax brackets and a smaller standard deduction. The IRS recently unveiled higher tax brackets and standard deductions for 2025. The survivor's penalty affects American women more often than men, because women are more likely to outlive male spouses.

That includes some of Giuliani's prized Yankees memorabilia, including a signed Joe DiMaggio jersey and an autographed Reggie Jackson picture. Citing Nathan's allegations, Liman on Tuesday ordered Giuliani to appear before him in New York on Thursday, and rejected a request from Giuliani's lawyer that the hearing be held remotely or in-person next week. He also said that Freeman and Moss were trying to leave the former New York City mayor "penniless and homeless," and that Giuliani wasn't being evasive. Elon Musk joins former US President Donald Trump during a campaign event in Butler, Pa., on Oct. 5, 2024. “I love Elon Musk,” Trump said at a rally in July. It’s not clear how Musk and Trump would navigate the ethical questions around a possible government role for the tech billionaire. “He would be in much less trouble in a Trump administration because Trump shares his hostility to regulation and regulators,” Richard Pierce, a law professor at George Washington University specializing in government regulation, told NBC News in an interview earlier this year.

A white supremacist is accused of trying to destroy an electricity substation in Tennessee in an attempt to bring down the regional power network and disrupt American society, authorities said Monday. The theory was popularized by manifestos left by perpetrators in a number of high-profile neo-Nazi and white supremacist terrorist incidents, including the killing of 51 people at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, in 2019. Philippi drove to an electricity substation, along with undercover FBI agents, to carry out reconnaissance, the bureau said. While driving, he ordered C-4 explosives from the undercover agents, and at a later date he bought black powder intended to be used in pipe bombs. Philippi was arrested on Nov. 2 by undercover agents acting as co-conspirators who had agreed to be lookouts.

'The biggest issue of housing today'The housing shortage in the U.S. is "the biggest issue of housing today," said Orphe Divounguy, senior economist at Zillow. As of mid-2023, there's a housing shortage of 4 million homes, according to the NAR. Rent prices increased faster than tenants' wages during the pandemic. "We're seeing renters staying renters for longer because affordability has been so squeezed," he said. High rent prices not only affect your ability to save money to buy a home, it can affect your ability to pay down any existing debt, Lautz said.
